The Stone Age Institute is an independent research center dedicated to the archaeological and paleontological study of human origins and technological development beginning with the earliest stone tools. The institute was founded by archaeologists Nicholas Toth and Kathy Schick to provide a focal point for research on human origins where affiliated scientists could collaborate on research and to provide science education outreach on human origins and evolution. The Stone Age Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The institute publishes scholarly books and articles and offers post-doctoral positions for prospective scientists. The institute is housed in a 11,400-square-foot (1,060 m2) facility located on a 30-acre (120,000 m2) rural site outside Bloomington, Indiana. The building was designed by Mary Krupinski and Dawn Gray of Kirkwood Design Studio in Bloomington, Indiana, and was completed in 2003.The Stone Age Institute is an autonomous research facility, but it has strong ties with Indiana University, especially CRAFT (the Center for Research into the Anthropological Foundations of Technology) and the Human Evolutionary Studies Program. Its co-founders, Toth and Schick, are faculty members at Indiana University.The facility includes a research library on early human prehistory and related science donated by the late J. Desmond Clark, professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley.

The district encompasses 69 contributing buildings, 7 contributing sites, 8 contributing structures, and 30 contributing objects in a rural area near Bloomington. The district developed between about 1828 and 1950, and include notable examples of Gothic Revival and Greek Revival style architecture. The contributing elements are located on 12 farmsteads. Located in the district is the separately listed Daniel Stout House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Griffy Reservoir, commonly known as Lake Griffy, is a reservoir in the city of Bloomington, Indiana. Created by a dam on Griffy Creek in the 1920s, the reservoir used to serve as the main source of drinking water for Bloomington for several decades, until that role was taken over by the larger Lake Lemon and Lake Monroe in the 1950s.A large part of the lake's forested watershed is designated as the Griffy Lake Nature Preserve (GLNP). Another part of the watershed is included into Indiana University's Research and Teaching Preserve as its Griffy Woods section. Griffy Woods includes a smaller reservoir, known as the University Lake, which in a sense was a predecessor of Griffy Lake, and is part of the latter's watershed.

Long Schoolhouse, also known as Washington Township District No. 13 and Nancy Long School, is a historic one-room school building located in Washington Township, Morgan County, Indiana. It was built in 1883, and is a simple one-story, rectangular, brick building with a gable roof. It features segmental arched window openings. It operated as a rural school until 1938. It is maintained by the Jordan Home Economics Club, Inc. : 5, 7 As of 2023, the roof has collapsed but the structure still stands. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Daniel Stout House, also known as the Old Stone House and Hubert Brown House, is a historic home located in Bloomington Township, Monroe County, Indiana. It was built in 1828, and is a two-story, stone dwelling representative of a pioneer farmhouse. It is believed that its builder Daniel Stout also helped to build Grouseland at Vincennes, Indiana. The house was restored in the 1940s.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It is located in the Maple Grove Road Rural Historic District.
