Weyers Cave, Virginia

Weyers Cave School, also known as Weyer's Cave Elementary School, is a historic public school building located at Weyers Cave, Augusta County, Virginia. It was built in 1916–1917, and enlarged in 1923–1924. The original section consists of the northern entrance and hall with four-bay classroom blocks to each side. It exhibits a central-passage, double-pile plan. The addition is a four-room and passage block to the south. The Colonial Revival style is reflected in a one-story, one-bay wooden portico with Doric order columns and square balustrade.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.Weyers Cave School was closed as a school in 1993. Presently it is the site of Equipping the Saints, a non-profit organization shipping books, clothing, and technology to third world countries.

West View Schoolhouse was a historic public school building located at Weyers Cave, Augusta County, Virginia. It has since been demolished. It was a two-room schoolhouse with the first room built about 1875, and the second added by 1890. It was of frame construction with a limestone and brick foundation. The interior was considered the least altered and best preserved of all the surviving one- and two-room schools in Augusta County.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (IATA: SHD, ICAO: KSHD, FAA LID: SHD) is in Weyers Cave, Virginia, United States, 12 miles (19 km) northeast of Staunton. It is used for general aviation and is served by one airline, subsidized by the Essential Air Service program. The airport is operated by the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport Commission, with members from the cities of Staunton, Waynesboro and Harrisonburg, and the counties of Augusta and Rockingham. Federal Aviation Administration records say the airport had 7,746 passenger boardings (enplanements) in calendar year 2008, 8,364 in 2009 and 10,408 in 2010. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a non-primary commercial service airport based on enplanements in 2008/2009 (between 2,500 and 10,000 per year).

The Harnsberger Octagonal Barn, also known the Mt. Meridian Octagonal Barn, is located near Grottoes, Virginia. Built about 1867, the barn is possibly the only example of such a barn in Virginia, as the building style was more popular in the expanding midwestern United States in the immediate post-American Civil War era than in economically depressed Virginia. The octagonal style was popularized in 1853 by A Home For All, or the Gravel Wall and Octagon Mode of Building by Orson Squire Fowler.The barn was built for Robert Samuel Harnsberger in 1867, following the example of his brother Stephen, who had built an octagonal house nearby in 1856. The barn represents an adaptation of the octagonal concept to the site, incorporating elements of traditional bank barns. The barn's builders encountered difficulty in assembling and fitting the barn, requiring the assistance of other carpenters.The wood frame barn retains the traditional bank barn functions of a central wagon floor with hay lofts to either side, rather than a functional distinction between each of the sides as suggested by Fowler. As with a bank barn, accommodations for cattle are on the lower level, with the stalls arranged in a line rather than radially.The barn was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 8, 1982.

Mt. Sidney Historic District is a national historic district located at Mount Sidney, Augusta County, Virginia. It encompasses 74 contributing buildings and 16 contributing sites in the rural village of Mount Sidney. The oldest buildings date to the 1820s and are located along the west side of the main street. Notable buildings include the Markwood House (1834), Moorman House (1835), James Ross House (c. 1840), Hyde Tavern (c. 1852), Mt. Sidney Methodist Church and Cemetery (1850), and Mt. Sidney African Methodist Episcopal Church and cemetery (1802, 1865-1875).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Mt. Sidney School is a historic public school building located at Mount Sidney, Augusta County, Virginia. the original portion was built in 1912, and is the front gable-roofed, two-story block with an I-house plan consisting of two rooms and a central hallway on each floor. It features a central cross gable, one-story, three-bay porch. A four-room brick addition was built in 1921 and a gymnasium added in 1935. The school closed in 1967, and was subsequently remodeled into apartments.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Contentment, also known as the Grattan House, is a historic home located near Mount Crawford, Rockingham County, Virginia. It was built in 1823, and is a two-story, five-bay, brick Federal style dwelling. It has a pair of slightly projecting interior end chimneys placed at each end of the standing-seam metal gable roof with a brick parapet between each pair. During the American Civil War, on June 2–3, 1864, the house served as the headquarters of Confederate General John D. Imboden before the Battle of Piedmont. It was also the site of one of the major skirmishes before the Confederate defeat at Cedar Creek, near Winchester. That skirmish was initiated by General Jubal Early and began at Contentment on October 4, 1864. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
