Hartland, Vermont

Hartland Four Corners is an unincorporated village in the town of Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont, United States. The community is located along Vermont Route 12, 8.8 miles (14.2 km) southwest of White River Junction. Hartland Four Corners has a post office with ZIP code 05049, which opened on July 5, 1854.

Hartland is a census-designated place (CDP) that comprises the central village of the town of Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the CDP was 380, compared to 3,393 for the entire town of Hartland.

Damon Hall, also known as Hartland Town Hall, is located at the junction of United States Route 5, Quechee Road, and Vermont Route 12 in the village center of Hartland, Vermont. Built in 1914-15 as a memorial to the locally prominent businessman William E. Damon, it is a fine local example of Colonial Revival architecture, and has served the town in many capacities since its construction. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The David Sumner House is a historic house at 4 Station Road in Hartland, Vermont. Built about 1807, it is a fine local example of Federal period architecture, exhibiting the influence of architect Asher Benjamin. It was built for David Sumner, a major local landowner and operator of sawmills. The house, now the Sumner Mansion Inn, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Martin's Mill Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge spanning Lull's Brook on Martinsville Road in Hartland, Vermont. Built about 1880, it is one of two surviving 19th-century covered bridges in the town. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Windsor-4 Representative District is a one-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Windsor-4 District includes all of the Windsor County towns of Hartland, and West Windsor. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The one member Windsor-4 District had a population of 4,290 in that same census, 5.69% above the state average.

The Eshqua Bog Natural Area is a protected area in Hartland, Vermont. It is 41 acres containing a wet bog. It is near Woodstock, about 11 miles west of White River Junction. There is a boardwalk allowing access to the wetland and views of rare plants.The flora of the area includes many post-glacial cold-climate plants native to bog and fen habitat, including Labrador tea, cotton grass, pitcher plants, showy lady's slippers, larches, and buckbean. The hard work of then Director of Science & Stewardship Mark P. DesMeules was most influential in seeing this natural area protected. Mark negotiated the purchase through, at the time, a unique joint fundraising campaign between the New England Wild Flower Society and The Nature Conservancy, which continue to jointly manage the property. This successful campaign allowed for the purchase of the area now protected. Mark also designed and installed the trail system with a host of wonderful volunteers and he designed and built the first boardwalk allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful lady's slippers.

The Quechee Gorge is located in Quechee, Vermont along U.S. Route 4. The gorge is 165 feet deep and is the deepest gorge in Vermont. It serves as a popular tourist attraction in Quechee State Park and can be viewed from the U.S. Route 4 bridge and from trails on both sides of the gorge. Many people from around New England flock to the gorge for the views. The Ottauquechee River flows through the bottom of the gorge and is a popular whitewater kayak run.

The Quechee Gorge Bridge is a historic bridge, carrying U.S. Route 4 (US 4) across Quechee Gorge, near the Quechee village of Hartford, Vermont. Built in 1911, it is Vermont's oldest surviving steel arch bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Quechee State Park is located on US Route 4 in Quechee, Vermont. The park land is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers and leased from by the State of Vermont. The park contains the Quechee Gorge, a popular Vermont tourist stop. The land was originally the site of the Dewey wool mill which ceased operation in 1952 and relocated to Enfield, New Hampshire. Shortly after the closing of the Mill the US Army Corps of Engineers acquired the property as part of its regional flood control plan. A hydroelectric dam sits at the north end of the gorge. Activities include camping, hiking, swimming, river fishing, picnicking, wildlife watching and winter sports.Camping facilities include 45 tent/trailer sites and 7 lean-to sites, two bathrooms with showers and a sanitary dump station. There is also a large field and play area, a picnic area next to Quechee Gorge with a pit toilet and a hiking trail along the gorge.

North Hartland Dam (National ID # VT00002) is a dam on the Ottauquechee River in Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont. The earthen dam was constructed between 1958 and 1961 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, with a height of 182 feet (55 m), and a length of 1,640 feet (500 m) at its crest. It impounds the river for flood control and storm water management. The dam is owned and operated by the New England District, North Atlantic Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The riverine reservoir it creates, North Hartland Lake, has a normal water surface of 215 acres (87 ha), a maximum capacity of 94,600 acre-feet (120 million cubic meters), and a much smaller normal capacity of 2,350 acre⋅ft (2.9 million m3). Recreation includes fishing, swimming and boating in the summer, and winter sports such as snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.

The Blow-Me-Down Covered Bridge is a historic wooden covered bridge carrying Lang Road over Blow-me-down Brook in the town of Cornish, near its northern border with Plainfield, New Hampshire. Built in 1877, the kingpost structure is one of the state's few surviving 19th-century covered bridges. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
