Southlake Mall is a shopping mall in Hobart, Indiana that is marketed as being in Merrillville, Indiana, due primarily to being served by the 46410 postal Zip Code. The tract of land on which it sits was annexed by the city of Hobart from unincorporated Ross Township in 1993. It lies in the Chicago metropolitan area. Southlake Mall is the only enclosed super regional mall in Northwest Indiana, as well as one of largest in the state overall along with Castleton Square in Indianapolis and Glenbrook Square in Fort Wayne. The mall's anchor stores are Kohl's, JCPenney, Macy's, H&M, and Forever 21. There are three vacant anchors stores that were once Dick's Sporting Goods, Carson Pirie Scott, and Sears. The Macy's store was an L. S. Ayres store prior to September 9, 2006. The mall first opened with only two anchor stores – JCPenney and Sears – and the north and south anchor wings were added later. The former Carson's had housed the cafeteria-style "The Garden Restaurant" by the entrance near the security garage on the south side of the mall from 1975 to 1989.

The Star Plaza Theatre (formerly known as the Holiday Star Theatre) was a live music venue located in Merrillville, Indiana. The theatre was a 3,400-seat intimate venue with two seating levels in a semicircle around the stage. The Main Floor Level sat 2,000 people, and the Mezzanine Level, which overhangs the main level about midway, sat 1,400. The furthest seat in the auditorium was 120 feet from the stage. The Star Plaza Theatre closed on December 17, 2017 after its final show with the only group to perform every year that the theater was open, The Oak Ridge Boys. The final song sung on the stage was "Amazing Grace". Green Acres is an unincorporated community in Ross Township, Lake County, Indiana. It is mostly the Green Acres subdivision, located just east of Colorado St between 73rd Ave (Old Lincoln Highway) and US 30.

The Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church (Serbian: Црква светог Саве, romanized: Crkva svetog Save) was originally established February 14, 1914, in Gary, Indiana, US, and is now located in Merrillville, Indiana, after the consecration of the new church building in 1991. It is the church-school congregation in which Saint Varnava, the first American-born Serbian to be proclaimed an Orthodox saint, was baptized and served as an altar boy.It is recognized as being among "10 Beautiful Region Cathedrals and Churches" in Northwest Indiana and one of the Midwest's oldest parishes, founded by early Serbian settlers in the United States seeking to establish their local community with the building of a church to help maintain their traditional customs.Through its religious and nationalistic endeavors, it earned the renowned name of "Srpska Gera". It is now among the churches in the Northwest Indiana region that enjoy the status of institutional landmarks.

Century Mall was an indoor shopping mall located on the southeast corner of Broadway (Indiana 53) and US 30 in Merrillville, Indiana, United States. The mall opened in 1979 with anchor stores Goldblatt's and Montgomery Ward. Competitive and economic factors sent the mall into steady decline and national retail chains left throughout the 1990s until the mall was ultimately sold for redevelopment in 2001 then closed and largely demolished in 2002. The mall's interior stores also suffered following Montgomery Ward's remodeling. Montgomery Ward removed their mall entrance and told customers that no stores remained, when in reality close to a dozen stores were still open. A strip mall development named Century Plaza now occupies the land and some of the former anchor store buildings.

Morgan-Skinner-Boyd Homestead, also known as Walnut Grove, is a historic home located at Merrillville, Lake County, Indiana. The original section of the house was built in 1877, and is a two-story, Italianate style brick dwelling with a low pitched roof topped by a cupola. A kitchen addition was added about 1900, along with a one-story, wood-frame addition. The house features porches with Eastlake movement decoration. Also on the property are the contributing pump house (c. 1877), milk shed (c. 1900), and granary (c. 1877).: 5–6 It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

On January 1, 2015, Merrillville became the most populated town in Indiana, as Fishers in Hamilton County was converted from a town to a city. The town serves as a major shopping hub for Northwest Indiana.

Albanese Candy is a candy manufacturer in Hobart, Indiana. Founded in 1983 by Scott Albanese, it specializes in the production of gummies and chocolate-covered goods. As of 2022, the company employs roughly 700 workers and ships to 41 countries. It is said to be the home of "the world's best gummies."

Andrean High School is a co-educational, college preparatory secondary school in Merrillville, Indiana. It is located in the Diocese of Gary. The school was founded in 1959, and named for St. Andrew, the patron saint of the first bishop of the diocese of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gary, Andrew Grutka. Through most of its history, Andrean has been staffed in part by members of the Basilian Fathers and the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The school colors are red and gold in honor of the martyrdom and subsequent glory of St. Andrew. The school motto is "Magister Meus Christus," or "Christ is My Teacher."
