Orwell, Vermont

The Addison-Rutland-1 Representative District is a one-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 United States census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 United States census. The Addison-Rutland-1 District includes all of the Addison County towns of Orwell, Shoreham, and Whiting, and the Rutland County town of Benson. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The one member Addison-Rutland-1 District had a population of 3,826 in that same census, 5.74% below the state average.

The First Congregational Church (or Orwell Congregational Church) is a historic church in Orwell, Vermont. The current meeting house was built in 1843, and is one of state's best examples of Greek Revival ecclesiastical architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Lemon Fair River is a river in Addison County and Rutland County, in the U.S. state of Vermont. Les monts verts, the French name for the Green Mountains, is thought to be the source of the name. The Lemon Fair begins in the fields and farmlands of southern Orwell, Vermont. From there it flows north, gaining tributaries, eventually draining into the Otter Creek by Route 23 in Weybridge, Vermont. The Lemon Fair is home to many forms of wildlife, including fish such as bass, northern pike, and bullhead. However, unlike other rivers around, it does not drain mountainous areas, only farmland. As such, the water quality is poorer than other rivers.

The East Shoreham Covered Railroad Bridge is a historic covered bridge spanning the Lemon Fair River near East Shoreham, Vermont. Built in 1897 by the Rutland Railroad Company, it is the state's only surviving example of a wooden Howe truss railroad bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Sudbury School No. 3, also known as the Hill School, is a historic district school building at the junction of Vermont Routes 30 and 73 in Sudbury, Vermont. Built in the 1820s, it is a well-preserved example of the period, executed in stone. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Sudbury Congregational Church, also known as the Sudbury Meetinghouse, is a historic church and town hall at 2702 Vermont Route 30 in Sudbury, Vermont. When it was built in 1807, it was a nearly exact replica of Plate 33 in Asher Benjamin's 1805 Country Builders Assistant. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Hyde's Hotel, also known as Hyde Manor, was a major summer resort hotel on Vermont Route 30 in Sudbury, Vermont. The remnants of the hotel, its main house built in 1865, are now deteriorating and partially collapsed. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Shoreham is a town in Addison County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,260 at the 2020 census.

The House at 215 School Street in Shoreham, Vermont is probably the town's oldest surviving house. The modest single-story Cape was built about 1795, probably by Job Lane Howe, a prominent regional master builder who was a cousin to Oliver Howe, the early town settler for whom it was built. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Shoreham Congregational Church is a historic church on School Street in Shoreham, Vermont. Built in 1846 by a local master builder, it is one of the state's finest examples of ecclesiastical Greek Revival architecture, and also housed local town meetings for more than a century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Whiting is a town in Addison County, Vermont, United States. The town was named for John Whiting, a landholder. The population was 405 at the 2020 census.

Chipman's Point is a historic 19th-century ferry complex on Chipman Point Road in Orwell, Vermont. The complex includes two early 19th-century stone warehouses, a former Lake Champlain ferry landing site (used until 1975), and the foundational remains of the Chipman Point Hotel. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
