Snina

Snina District (okres Snina) is a district in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia. Until 1918, the district was part of the county of Kingdom of Hungary of Zemplín. It's the easternmost district in Slovakia, and includes the easternmost point of the whole country, Kremenec. Snina, the district's administrative center is the only town in the district, and the easternmost town in Slovakia.

The Chapel of Virgin Mary is a neoclassical building situated in the only cemetery in Snina in Slovakia. The chapel was built by Štefan Rholl in 1842. Because his family had roots in Snina, he built a tomb with a chapel for his deceased relatives. A former cemetery, which existed on the decline created by the backing-up of the river Pčolinka, was not suitable as Pčolinka posed a threat when it flooded. The roots of Rholls in Snina went back to 1799 when the businessman Jozef Rholl bought the lordship of Snina from the sons of countess Terézia van Dernáthová, an important event in Snina's history. Jozef Rholl came from a family which worked with metallurgy in Gemer and Spiš. In 1809, Jozef Rholl built iron-works with attached walled houses for the workers. Under the chapel was the family tomb of Rholl, which was robbed during World War II. On a wall inside this chapel, this legend in Hungarian is well preserved: Here lies Katherine, wife of respectable and courageous Jozef Rholl, born Uszfalvai. She sleeps forever since the day of Saint Michael in the year 1803, in the 55th year of her life. With thanks and deep regard from her son Stefan, built in 1842.

Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area (Slovak: Chránená krajinná oblasť Vihorlat) is one of 14 protected landscape areas in Slovakia. The Landscape Area is in the middle part of the Vihorlatské vrchy mountains, in eastern Slovakia. It is in the Humenné, Sobrance and Snina districts.

Vihorlat Mountains (Slovak: Vihorlatské vrchy; Ukrainian: Вигорлат, Vyhorliat, Hungarian: Vihorlát) or colloquially Vihorlat is a volcanic mountain range in eastern Slovakia and western Ukraine. A part of the range is listed as a World Heritage Site.

Pčoliné (Hungarian: Méhesfalva, Rusyn: Пчолине) is a village and municipality in Snina District in the Prešov Region of north-eastern Slovakia.

Morské oko (called Veľké Vihorlatské jazero in the past; literally "Eye of the sea") is a lake in the Vihorlat Mountains in eastern Slovakia. It is the largest non karst lake and the third biggest natural lake in Slovakia. It is at an altitude of 618 m, covers 0.13 km² with a maximum depth of 25.1 m. It is drained by the river Okna. The oldest known description of the lake can be found on two maps, dating back to 1687. The earliest official name of the lake known as Blatné jazero (germ. Blatto teich) dates back to 1784. The name Veľké Vihorlatské jazero was introduced in 1933. The lake itself is a natural home to 8 species of fish. The native species consist of the brown trout (Salmo trutta m. fario), common minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus) and stone loach (Barbatula barbatula). In the past, rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was introduced into the lake, but the prevailing species today is the common chub (Squalius cephalus). It is a national nature reserve (covering 1.08 km²) since 1984 and part of the Vihorlat Protected Landscape Area.
