Riverside Historic District (Riverside, Illinois)

Riverside is a suburban village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. A significant portion of the village is in the Riverside Landscape Architecture District, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. The population of the village was 8,875 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Chicago, located roughly 9 miles (14 km) west of downtown Chicago and 2 miles (3 km) outside city limits.

The F.F. Tomek House, also known as The Ship House or as the Ferdinand Frederick and Emily Tomek House, is a historic house in Riverside, Illinois. It is prominent example of Prairie School design by Frank Lloyd Wright. Designed in 1904 and construction finished in 1906, the Tomek House is a well-preserved example of the style. In addition to being a good example of the Prairie style, the Tomek house documents the development of the style, which reached its clearest expression in Wright's Robie House in 1908. It is included in the Riverside Historic District and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1999.

The Benda House is a building in the Riverside Historic District in Illinois that is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural merit. Designed by architect Winston Elting in 1938, it is notable for blending European-inspired modernism with American organicism, reflecting the architectural landscape of its era.

The Arcade Building is a historic building at 1 Riverside Road in Riverside, Illinois. The building was built in 1871 as Riverside's first commercial building; its first floor housed storefronts, while its upper floors were used as residential and office space. Riverside was developed as a planned community in the late 1860s, and the Arcade Building was part of its original plan; it both provided basic services to the village's early residents and served as a focal point of its downtown. Architect Frederick C. Withers designed the Victorian Gothic building, which features brick arches over its windows, four dormers projecting from the roof, and towers atop the entrance and at each corner. By grouping the village's shops in a single planned building, the Arcade Building was one of the earliest precursors to the concept of a shopping center.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 8, 2016.

Riverside is a station on Metra's BNSF Line in Riverside, Illinois. The station is 11.0 miles (17.7 km) from Union Station, the east end of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Riverside is in zone C. As of 2018, Riverside is the 100th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 493 weekday boardings. A staffed station building is on the south side of the three tracks. The station was built about 1901 by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad according to a design by the company's general architect, Walter Theodore Krausch.

Riverside Township is one of 29 townships in Cook County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 15,594.

In Metra's zone-based fare system, Harlem Avenue is in zone B. As of 2018, Harlem Avenue is the 106th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 451 weekday boardings. A station building is on the south side of the three-track main. According to the Dynamic Depot Maps website, Harlem Avenue station was originally built in 1890 by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad.

The Arthur J. Dunham House is a house located at 3131 S. Wisconsin Ave. in Berwyn, Illinois, USA. The Prairie School house, built circa 1907, was designed by the Chicago architectural firm Tallmadge and Watson. The house's features exemplify the design elements of the Prairie School, with an emphasis on horizontal lines and open planes; these elements can be seen in the house's lateral porch, low hipped roof and open floor plan. The house is the only house in Berwyn with such a design, and since the same family has owned it since its construction, its design is basically intact.The Arthur J. Dunham House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 11, 1982.

Hofmann Tower is the name of a tower in Lyons, Illinois. It was built in 1908 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 22, 1978. Hofmann Tower is featured prominently in two books written by Rose Marie Benedetti and Virginia C. Bulat entitled Lyons: A history of a village and area important for 300 years (1959) and Portage, pioneers, and pubs: A history of Lyons, Illinois (1963).George Hofmann, Jr., a local brewer built a dam on the Des Plaines River to generate electricity. He also built the adjacent tower as part of a park that attracted visitors to picnic and ride boats.In the 1970s, Rose Marie Benedetti and Maureen S. Kiener worked closely with the preservation efforts of the Village of Lyons Historical Commission to have Hofmann Tower designated a village and state landmark and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Berwyn Route 66 Museum was a small not-for-profit facility, located in Berwyn, Illinois, that documented the history of the former U.S. Route 66. It has been closed now.

Riverside Brookfield High School (RBHS) is a secondary school located directly between Riverside, Illinois, and Brookfield, Illinois, which educates grades 9-12. It serves the towns of Riverside, North Riverside, Broadview, and parts of LaGrange Park and Brookfield. Its campus is adjacent to Brookfield Zoo. The mascot of Riverside Brookfield (RB) is Rouser the Bulldog. Riverside Brookfield Township High School District 208 recently passed a $58 million referendum, resulting in renovations to the school building, including a new swimming pool, athletics stadium, and classrooms completed in the spring of 2010.
