Newburyport Public Library

Newburyport is a coastal city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, 35 miles (56 km) northeast of Boston. The population was 18,289 at the 2020 census. A historic seaport with a vibrant tourism industry, Newburyport includes part of Plum Island. The mooring, winter storage, and maintenance of recreational boats, motor and sail, still contribute a large part of the city's income. A Coast Guard station oversees boating activity, especially in the sometimes dangerous tidal currents of the Merrimack River. At the edge of the Newbury Marshes, delineating Newburyport to the south, an industrial park provides a wide range of jobs. Newburyport is on a major north-south highway, Interstate 95. The outer circumferential highway of Boston, Interstate 495, passes nearby in Amesbury. The Newburyport Turnpike (U.S. Route 1) still traverses Newburyport on its way north. The Newburyport/Rockport MBTA commuter rail from Boston's North Station terminates in Newburyport. The earlier Boston and Maine Railroad leading farther north was discontinued, but a portion of it has been converted into a recreation trail.

The Newburyport Historic District encompasses most of the historic downtown area of Newburyport, Massachusetts. It is roughly bounded by the Merrimack River, Marlboro Street, Ashland Street and High Streets. Covering some 750 acres (300 ha) of land and more than 2,500 contributing buildings, it includes the most populous part of the city, and a panoply of architectural styles, dating from the 17th century to the early 20th century. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The E. P. Dodge Building is a historic building at 19-23 Pleasant Street in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Italianate five story brick building was built in 1873 by Elisha P. Dodge, a shoemaker, for use as a factory. When first built it was only four stories, but when Dodge enlarged the premises in 1880, the mansard section was added on top (in addition to extending the building to the rear as far as Prince Place). The building remained in use as a shoe factory until the 1930s, and is now used for commercial and light industrial purposes.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and included in the Newburyport Historic District in 1984.

The Brown Square House, now the Garrison Inn, is a historic pair of rowhouses at 11 Brown Square in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Built in 1809–10, they form the largest surviving brick building from the Federal period in the city. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, and included in the Newburyport Historic District in 1984.

The First Religious Society Church and Parish Hall is a historic church building at 26 Pleasant Street in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Originally a Reformed congregation, the congregation is currently affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist denomination. The current Minister is Reverend Rebecca M. Bryan. The church's steeple is currently the tallest point in downtown Newburyport, Massachusetts. The church building was constructed in 1801 by the First Religious Society, which was founded in 1725. The designer is unknown, but the names of Samuel McIntire of Salem and Timothy Palmer of Newburyport have been suggested. Like so many churches in the United States, the design of the church was based on the church of St Martin-in-the-Fields in London.A stylistically complementary parish hall was added to the east side of the church in 1873. The space is utilized as a center for social and educational activities.Barbara Owen served the congregation as organist from 1963 until 2002.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and included in the Newburyport Historic District in 1984.

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Newburyport is a Greek Orthodox Church in Newburyport, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1917 by 60 Greek-Americans but did not have a building to worship in until 1924. In August 1983, a fire burned down the church; it was later rebuilt in 1985. The church is still active to this day.

George Washington is a larger than life-sife, outdoor, 1878 bronze statue by the American sculptor John Quincy Adams Ward and located in Newburyport, Massachusetts. It depicts General George Washington addressing the Continental Army as commander-in-chief. The statue was dedicated on his birthday, February 22, in 1879.

The Dalton House is a historic colonial house in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built c. 1746, and is one of the best preserved Georgian houses in the city. It was built by Michael Dalton, a mariner and merchant who settled in Newburyport in 1735. Dalton's son Tristram was a major local figure during the American Revolutionary War, and was one of the first United States senators from Massachusetts. As such, the house was visited by a number of luminaries of early American history, including George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette. The house was acquired by the Dalton Club, a men's social club, in 1898.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and included in the Newburyport Historic District in 1984.

The Market Square Historic District of Newburyport, Massachusetts encompasses an area of the city near the Merrimack River that was completely rebuilt after a major fire in 1811. Over the next twenty years the area was rebuilt under a building code requiring either brick construction or size limits on wood-frame buildings. As a consequence the Market Square area has a remarkable concentration of Federal style brick buildings. Among the most notable are the Custom House, now a museum, and the 1823 Market House, which forms the district's eastern boundary. The district includes Market Square and properties fronting on State, Merrimac, Liberty, and Water Streets. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

Newburyport High School (NHS) is a public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades in Newburyport, Massachusetts, United States and is part of the Newburyport Public School System. It was established in 1831 and is one of the oldest public schools in the United States of America.

WJOP-LP (96.3 FM), known as Joppa Radio, is a low power FM radio station in Newburyport, Massachusetts, licensed to the Newburyport Community Media Center. With studios located in the Commerce Park building (as part of their community television facilities known as PortMedia) and antenna atop of Newburyport High School, Joppa Radio officially began broadcasting on April 16, 2016, initially with an all classical format, but intending to diversify as its listener donated library grows.

The former United States Customhouse (now the Custom House Maritime Museum) is a historic building at 25 Water Street in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Classical Revival-style building was constructed in 1834 and served a custom house until Newburyport declined in popularity as a major port. The Newburyport Maritime Society, Inc. operates the Custom House Maritime Museum to showcase the maritime heritage of the Merrimack Valley. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It is also a contributing element to the Market Square Historic District (also listed in 1971), and the Newburyport Historic District (listed in 1984).
