Cypress Landing is a planned community and census-designated place (CDP) in Beaufort County, North Carolina, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 1,257.The community is in western Beaufort County, on the south side of Chocowinity Bay, an arm of the tidal Pamlico River. It is 2.5 miles (4.0 km) southeast of the town of Chocowinity via Old Blounts Creek Road. It is 6 miles (10 km) by road south of Washington, the county seat.

The attendance zone includes Chocowinity, Aurora, Blounts Creek, and Edward.It was founded in 2000, when Chocowinity High School and Aurora High School were consolidated into one school. Chocowinity Middle School and Aurora Middle school serve as feeder schools to Southside. There are approximately 500 students attending Southside, which houses grades 9–12 on a 4 block schedule. The school's floorplan consists of 4 main halls, 2 of which pertain to certain areas of study. There is a Math/Science/History hall, an English/Technology hall, and a small area dedicated to Performing Arts (Band), one art class, and a Health classroom. Southside also has a multi-purpose gym, which houses the basketball and volleyball programs; a stadium, which houses its football, soccer, and track and field programs; and separate baseball and softball fields. A double tennis court is also located on campus, though there is no official tennis program as of now, though there may be one in the 2024 school year as interest is building. The school mascot is the Seahawk. The school's primary spirit color is teal, along with secondary colors including navy blue, gold and white.

WDLX (930 AM) and WGHB (1250 AM) are radio stations broadcasting a sports format. The WDLX/WGHB simulcast is currently owned by Pirate Media Group. Licensed to Washington, North Carolina, United States, WDLX serves the Greenville-New Bern area. The station signed on the air March 3, 1942 as WRRF. The calls stood for "We Radiate Real Friendship". In 1962, the call letters were changed to WITN, owing largely to the eyeWITNess news format adopted by owner Bill Roberson's television station, WITN-TV. Roberson had also signed on sister FM station WITN-FM at 93.3 MHz (today's WERO) on September 6, 1961. These stations shared the same callsigns on FM and AM until 1985, when the FM facility became WDLX and the AM reverted to the WRRF calls. They shared the same building until about 2004. In 1996, new owner Pinnacle Broadcasting changed the calls for WDLX to WERO as the station adopted an Arrow 93.3 moniker and a classic hits format; to protect the copyright to the call letters, they switched WRRF to WDLX, although no change was made in its talk format. WDLX is today the flagship station for East Carolina University Pirates athletics and also broadcasts Carolina Hurricanes games. Starting in 2010, WDLX aired the Baltimore Orioles. WGHB is licensed to Farmville, North Carolina and was once WFAG, meaning "Watch Farmville Area Grow". It exists mainly to improve WDLX' nighttime coverage in the Greenville area. WDLX must adjust its coverage to protect a silent clear-channel station in Montreal at AM 940, limiting its nighttime coverage to the immediate area around Washington. These two stations are not related to pirate radio, deriving their name instead from the East Carolina Pirates.

The North Carolina Estuarium is a natural science museum / environmental center by the Pamlico River in Washington, North Carolina featuring exhibits and artwork. An estuarium is a type of aquarium at an estuary where fresh and saltwater mix. It opened in 1988.The estuarium has more than 200 scientific and historic exhibits on the ecology of North Carolina's estuaries, the Tar-Pamlico River, and Pamlico Sound including . Visitors can also walk a 3/4 mile boardwalk alongside Pamlico River. The lobby features a mechanical recreation of the water cycle. Other exhibits cover ecology, wildlife including blue crabs, historical artifacts, and environmental concerns such as hurricanes.It is at 223 East Water Street. It has offered free river tours.Virtual tours were created to allow people to experience its offerings without in person visits.

It was built about 1786, as a two-story, square brick building measuring 42 feet by 42 feet. It was later enlarged with a two-by rear extension and square clock tower. It is one of the earliest public buildings in North Carolina.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It is located in the Washington Historic District. It now serves as headquarters for and the Washington Branch of the Beaufort-Hyde-Martin Regional Library.
