North Carolina Estuarium
The North Carolina Estuarium is a natural science museum / environmental center by the Pamlico River in Washington, North Carolina featuring exhibits and artwork. An estuarium is a type of aquarium at an estuary where fresh and saltwater mix. It opened in 1988.The estuarium has more than 200 scientific and historic exhibits on the ecology of North Carolina's estuaries, the Tar-Pamlico River, and Pamlico Sound including . Visitors can also walk a 3/4 mile boardwalk alongside Pamlico River. The lobby features a mechanical recreation of the water cycle. Other exhibits cover ecology, wildlife including blue crabs, historical artifacts, and environmental concerns such as hurricanes.It is at 223 East Water Street. It has offered free river tours.Virtual tours were created to allow people to experience its offerings without in person visits.
