Auchenshuggle

Tollcross station was a railway station in the east end of Glasgow, Scotland. It was opened by the Caledonian Railway as Tollcross on 1 February 1897.Located next to the settlements of Braidfauld and Auchenshuggle between the London Road and Tollcross Road arterial routes, it was closed to passengers on 5 October 1964. The lines have also been removed, but the land has not been built upon into the 21st century.

The Tollcross International Swimming Centre is a swimming pool and leisure centre in Glasgow. It hosted the Swimming events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The centre hosted the IPC Swimming World Championships during July 2015.

Braidfauld is a small area of Glasgow, Scotland which is in the East End of the city slightly north of the River Clyde and south of the Tollcross area. It was also the name of the 45th ward of Glasgow City Council, prior to the re-organisation into multi-member wards in 2007. Braidfauld ward, extending from Parkhead to Sandyhills, was an artificial creation and few residents recognised the name other than as a sub-district of the area, feeling more affinity (depending on where they lived) with neighbouring areas such as Lilybank, Parkhead and Tollcross. It is now within the larger Shettleston ward.

Tollcross (Scottish Gaelic: Toll na Croise) is an area north of the River Clyde in Glasgow and has a popular park, opened in 1897, which is famed for its international rose trials. It lies approximately a mile east of the neighbouring suburb of Parkhead, and just north of Braidfauld and south of Shettleston.

Vale of Clyde Football Club are a Scottish football club based in the East End of Glasgow. Nicknamed Tin Pail, the club officially date their founding in 1873, although contemporary press reports don't actually date the club until 1885, and is based at Fullarton Park in the Fullarton neighbourhood (near to Tollcross and Auchenshuggle). Since the leagues were reconstructed in 2002, Vale of Clyde have played in various divisions in the West Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association but now play in the West of Scotland League Second Division. The team colours are blue, red and white. Possibly the oldest Junior club still in existence and certainly among the oldest handful, the club were one of the most successful sides in the game's early era and won the Scottish Junior Cup on three occasions as well as several prominent regional competitions, although since World War II they have won little and existed as a minor presence. In 2020, it was confirmed that Vale of Clyde (along with the 62 other West Region Junior clubs) had successfully applied to join the new West of Scotland Football League in the senior pyramid.

Cardinal Winning Secondary School is a Roman Catholic co-educational secondary school, located in the Tollcross area of Glasgow.It caters for secondary aged children with Additional Learning Needs. It has an autism spectrum department.It opened in June 2011 following the closures of St Aidan's School and St Joan of Arc School. It is named after Cardinal Winning, the first Roman Catholic Cardinal of Glasgow, who died in 2001. The school offers a range of subjects including Art, Computing, English, Enterprise and Employability, Home Economics, Maths, Music, PE, Religion, Science, Technical and Life Skills Learning. It also offers opportunities to participate in several recreational activities including badminton, lego, singing, chess and art.

Auchenshuggle Bridge (Achadh an t-Seagail - "the rye field" - in Gaelic) is a road bridge spanning the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland. The Auchenshuggle Bridge is the latest bridge to be built over the Clyde in the Auchenshuggle district of Glasgow, carrying the M74 motorway over the river and onto land which is part of Clydebridge Steelworks in Rutherglen, en route to the M8 junction near the heavily congested Kingston Bridge.

The Clyde Iron Works was a Scottish-based ironworking plant which operated from 1786 to 1978.Clyde Iron occupied a large site near the Carmyle and Tollcross areas of Glasgow. The plant was built by William Cadell (1737–1819) and Thomas Edington (1742–1811) who were associated with the Carron Iron Works in Falkirk as well as other ventures. The inventor David Mushet worked there for a period. Carronades were produced at the works during the Napoleonic Wars period.Clyde Iron was the location of a key development in the Industrial Revolution in Scotland when James Beaumont Neilson successfully introduced the hot blast furnace in 1828, reducing the volume and carbon content of coal needed in the furnaces to produce the iron, which in turn meant that Scottish metal became cheaper to produce using local coal. From the 1860s the works was served by a major railway after the Whifflet Line between Glasgow and Coatbridge was constructed directly to the south of the site. Ironstone was obtained from Monklands and coal from local pits across Lanarkshire such as in Carmyle and Cambuslang via connecting industrial railway lines, until the supply from those sources was eventually exhausted. "Miners row" cottages were also built for workers near to the iron works and the pits. In 1931 Clyde Iron was overtaken by Colvilles and extensively modernised; shortly afterwards in 1939 the works was integrated with the nearby Clydebridge Steelworks (producing both the hot metal and the finished steel). New furnaces were installed in 1948.By the late 20th century the facility included a research laboratory, a small power station to meet energy needs, and an on-site gas holder for the town gas produced in the coking processes – the excess electricity was able to be supplied to the national grid and the gas to the Scottish Gas Board.During the period when Clydebridge and the Clyde Iron Works were economically linked between the 1940s and 1970s, a gas pipeline and railway bridge were constructed over the River Clyde which separated the two plants. Both plants were operated by British Steel Corporation from 1967 until 1977 when the Iron Works closed down after 191 years of operation – most of Clydebridge's operations also ceased at that time. During the 1980s the site was cleared (other than a few remaining small buildings close to Junction 2A of the M74 motorway) by the Glasgow Development Agency and Scottish Enterprise and is now an industrial estate (Glasgow East Investment Park, sometimes referred to as Cambuslang Investment Park although it is not in Cambuslang) that includes the local Royal Mail distribution centre, and the printing facility of newspapers including The Herald and Evening Times, opened in 2002.Tollcross was also home to another steelworks (a tube plant that was part of the Stewarts & Lloyds empire) which too has closed and been cleared, with housing now on that site.Clyde Iron Works in Glasgow has no direct link to the factory of the same name in Duluth, Minnesota which is now redeveloped as a restaurant, nor any link to the 19th century firms of that name associated with Samuel Osborn & Company of Sheffield.

Shettleston (Scots: Shuttlestoun, Scottish Gaelic: Baile Nighean Sheadna) is an area in the east end of Glasgow in Scotland.

Glasgow United Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Shettleston, in the East End of Glasgow. Nicknamed the Town, they were formed in 1903 as Shettleston Juniors Football & Athletic Club and renamed prior to the 2021–22 season. The club continues to play at Greenfield Park and currently competes in the West of Scotland League. Shettleston reached the final of the 1958–59 Scottish Junior Cup, losing 2–1 to Irvine Meadow in front of a crowd of 65,211 fans at Hampden Park. Their fortunes have been mixed in recent years, flitting between the various divisions of the league they have been based in, although they managed to reach the semi-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup in 2000–01, and the quarter-finals of the same competition in 2001–02 and 2014–15. The team have been led jointly since January 2017 by Club owner Hugh Kelly & Bernard ‘Bernie’ Beacom. Kelly & Beacom replaced the previous management team of Peter Weatherson and Ryan McStay. On 26 January 2022, the club confirmed Rab Stevenson as their new manager. The current squad includes David Goodwillie, and the surrounding controversy has led to threats of eviction from their facilities by Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken. However the club have chosen to support their player 'with his mental health and will continue to do so'.

Carntyne railway station serves the Carntyne area of Glasgow, Scotland. The station is 2¾ miles (4 km) east of Glasgow Queen Street railway station on the North Clyde Line. The station is managed by ScotRail. The ticket office, constructed when the line was electrified by British Railways in 1960, was cleared away in the early 1990s leaving Carntyne station unstaffed and with only basic 'bus stop'-style shelters on the platforms for passengers to use.

The Clydebridge Steelworks, also known as Clydebridge Works, is a steel works in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The plant opened in 1877. The works made steel sheared plates to build ships (among other uses) - plates from Clydebridge were used in many famous vessels such as the ocean liners of the Cunard Line (Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary and QE2).Steel manufacture at the site ended in 1978; the site had manufactured steel with an open hearth furnace, the type of melting shops that British Steel wanted to discontinue. In the mid-1970s, it employed around 3,500. The plate mill at Clydebridge plate works rolled its last plate on 12 November 1982. The M74 motorway now runs through the works site adjacent to the remaining buildings. As of 2016, it is currently owned by Liberty House Group and employs 45 workers in its heat treatment and quenching facilities. In late 2017, it appeared the future of the Clydebridge and Dalzell sites was again uncertain when Liberty offered redundancy packages to its workforce, but a few months later, Liberty Group owner Sanjeev Gupta announced a further "£1bn investment in Scotland" under his Greensteel production strategy.
