Relampago, Texas

Río Rico is a village located along the Rio Grande in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It includes a portion of the Horcón Tract, a narrow 461-acre (1.87 km2) piece of land (including former riverbed) that was part of the United States until 1977. The Horcón Tract was originally north of the meandering river—and thus part of the U.S. state of Texas—until an unauthorized diversion of the river to its north cut it off from the rest of the state in 1906. Río Rico was founded years later, in 1929, and developed as a de facto Mexican settlement. In 1967, an American geography professor discovered what had happened and it was determined that parts of Río Rico were legally on U.S. territory, making those who were born there American citizens by birthright. The international border was moved under the terms of the Boundary Treaty of 1970, placing the tract and the village in Mexico, effective in 1977.

The Battle of La Ebonal was fought in December 1859 near Brownsville, Texas during the First Cortina War. Following the Brownsville Raid, on September 28, and a few skirmishes with the Texas Rangers, rebel leader Juan Cortina led his small army into the hills outside of town and dug in near a series of cattle ranches. The United States Army responded by sending an expedition into the area, under the command of Major Samuel P. Heintzelman, with orders to pacify all resistance. A minor battle began on December 13, at a ranch called La Ebonal, and continued for a few hours as the Americans routed and then pursued the retreating Cortinistas.

The Battle of La Bolsa was a major event in the Cortina War, a series of armed confrontations between the milita of Mexican rancher Juan Cortina and elements of the United States Army and the Texas Rangers. The battle occurred on February 4, 1860, when Cortina's forces attacked the steamboat Ranchero on its way to Brownsville.

Mercedes High School is a public high school located in Mercedes, Texas, and is part of the Mercedes Independent School District. The school has a little over 1000 students and the current administration includes Principal, Mr. Ricardo Hinojosa, Assistant Principals, Mr. Jason Acosta, and Ms. Michelle Guerra

The Progreso Port of Entry was opened in July, 1952, with the completion of the Progreso – Nuevo Progreso International Bridge. The original US Border Inspection Station was replaced by the General Services Administration in 1983, and the bridge itself was rebuilt in 2003.

The Progreso–Nuevo Progreso International Bridge (Spanish: Puente Internacional Nuevo Progreso–Progreso), officially the Weslaco–Progreso International Bridge and also known as the B&P Bridge, is an international bridge over the Rio Grande on the U.S.–Mexico border, connecting the cities of Progreso, Texas and Nuevo Progreso, Río Bravo, Tamaulipas. It has been in operation since 1952.

Progreso is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 5,507 at the time of the 2010 United States Census. It is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas.

Progreso Lakes is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 240 at the 2010 United States Census. The city, incorporated in 1979, is centered on Lion and Moon Lakes, two resacas or ox-bow lakes.Progreso Lakes is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas. In addition, it shares the U.S.-Mexico border with the city of Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas.

Mercedes is a U.S. city in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 15,570 at the 2010 census. It is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas.

Estero Llano Grande State Park is located south of the city of Weslaco in Hidalgo County in the U.S. state of Texas.

South Texas ISD Health Professions (Health Professions) is one of four STISD magnet high schools in the Rio Grande Valley and is located in Mercedes, Texas. Students at Health Professions develop clinical skills in area hospitals, nursing homes and pharmacies, as well as doctor, dentist and veterinary offices. Many students earn certifications as certified nursing assistants, dental assistants, emergency medical technicians, personal trainers and veterinary assistants.

Llano Grande (Spanish "Great Plain") is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hidalgo County, Texas. The population was 3,008 at the 2010 United States Census. It is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission Metropolitan Statistical Area. Llano Grande means "Big Plain" in Spanish. Nearby Llano Grande State Park is popular with bird watchers and the supposed site of many ghost appearances, including the ghosts of historic figures in Texas history.
