High Ercall

The siege of High Ercall Hall in High Ercall, Shropshire, England took place during the First English Civil War. There were a total of three sieges. In each of the sieges, the Hall was held by the Royalists and besieged by the Parliamentarians. The final and longest siege took place from July 1645 to March 1646, when the Royalist commander surrendered the hall to the Parliamentarians.

High Ercall Hall or Ercall Hall is the remaining part of a larger complex in the village of High Ercall, Shropshire, 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Shrewsbury. The present structure is a Grade II* L-shaped, three-storey building of 16th-century origin, constructed of sandstone and brick. It has 5 bays with 3 alternate projecting gables. Adjacent to the house is a row of arches, the only remainder of a larger 17th-century house building that was badly damaged during the English Civil War.

Royal Air Force High Ercall or more simply RAF High Ercall is a former Royal Air Force sector station situated near the village of High Ercall, 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.

Roden is a hamlet in the borough of Telford and Wrekin and ceremonial county of Shropshire, England, six miles northeast of Shrewsbury. The little River Roden flows past the village. The population at the 2011 census can be found under High Ercall. Roden Hall, dating in part from the 14th century, when the Lee family, lords of Berrington, were lords of the vill of Roden, was rebuilt in 1868 by the Co-operative Wholesale Society as a convalescent home for millworkers from Lancashire and Yorkshire. It is now a care home, in which English baritone Derek Hammond-Stroud passed his last days. White House, a Grade II listed 16th or 17th century vernacular timber framed house with whitened brick infill panel was formerly used as a post office. Foundations remain of a detached medieval chapel.The hamlet is located on Roden Lane, the B5062 road, one mile southwest of High Ercall; a former toll house stands by the roadside. Local transport links are provided by Arriva in the form of bus route 822 to Wellington. There is a large garden centre at Roden, and the huge greenhouses can be clearly seen from the main road through the village. The surrounding countryside is largely flat pastureland. Possible remains of medieval ridge and furrow field pattern near the river have been detected from the air (1991).Roden had a long history of producing tomatoes, and was once covered in greenhouses owned by the Farmcare subsidiary of the Co-operative Wholesale Society; the society had purchased land there in 1896 for its first farm. By the 1950s some 90% of the Society's site was devoted to growing tomatoes. Most of the greenhouses have now been removed.

Rodington is a village in Shropshire, England. Situated between the towns of Wellington and Shrewsbury it lies on the relatively level Shropshire plain and just within the borough of Telford & Wrekin. The Church of England parish church, St George's, although listed in the Domesday Book was extensively re-built in the Victorian era. Its deanery is Wrockwardine and its Diocese Lichfield. The village pub, the Bull has changed ownership a number of times in recent years. Having been closed for refurbishment for a long time, it re-opened in October 2007. Rodington village hall is one of the larger venues in the immediate area, it contains a main room with stage, dressing rooms, a bar, a kitchen and also contains the village post office. The hall is available for renting for private functions and normally runs a variety of concerts every two or three weeks through the winter season. The River Roden flows through the village and visible in some of the fields are the remains of the Shropshire Canal. Professional footballer Steve Jagielka (1978-2021) lived at Rodington at the time of his death.

Ellerdine () is a small hamlet located six miles north of the market town of Wellington, Shropshire. It is located at the convergence of six ancient footpaths and comprises two small communities; Ellerdine and Ellerdine Heath and is located within the parish of Ercall Magna, the administrative centre of which is in the neighbouring village of High Ercall. The village consists of a number of scattered farms and cottages with a small cluster of council houses. Longdon-Upon-Tern (also known as Longdon-on-Tern or colloquially Longdon) is a village in east central Shropshire, England. It is in the unitary district of Telford and Wrekin, and is approximately 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) east of Shrewsbury and 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) north-west of Telford. Longdon-Upon-Tern is situated on the River Tern, a tributary of the River Severn. Settled since at least the Normans, the village is notable as the site of the Longdon-on-Tern Aqueduct, the first large-scale cast iron navigable aqueduct, designed and built by Thomas Telford for the canal. The aqueduct is Grade I listed and a preserved as a scheduled ancient monument.

Isombridge is a small hamlet in rural Shropshire. It lies on the border of the civil parishes of Wrockwardine and Rodington, north of Wrockwardine village, near the River Tern. Population details are included under Rodington. Immediately to the north is another small hamlet, Marsh Green, which was formerly on the Shrewsbury Canal until the latter's closure. It was recorded as a manor in the Domesday Book, where its name was written Asnebruge. This was derived from the Old English esne, "servant", and bryce, "bridge": "the bridge of the servants", presumably referring to a bridge over the Tern. The manor, which had been held by a man named Ulf in Saxon times, was later held by Ralph de Mortimer: he subsequently forfeited it and it passed to the lords of Bolas.The area later formed a township of the parish of High Ercall: there was a small chapel here, now long since disappeared.
