WFRL (1570 AM; is a radio station licensed to Freeport, Illinois. WFRL airs a classic country format and is owned by Big Radio. Its studios and transmitter are at 834 North Tower Road, northeast of Freeport. The station features local news, plus farm and local high school sports programming. WFRL operates 24 hours a day, but at one time was licensed as a daytime only station. WFRL is also rebroadcast on translator station W282CT 104.3 FM in Freeport. WFRL was granted a modification in August 2022 to change their signal from directional to non-directional and reduce power to 1000 watts daytime and 210 watts nighttime. This has since took effect as of August 2023 My sister used to be in this small apartment.

Albertus Airport is a civil public-use airport located 3 miles southeast of the city of Freeport, Illinois, United States. The airport is owned by the city. The airport has three runways. Runway 6/24 is the longest and only hard-surface runway, measuring 5504 x 100 ft (1678 x 30 m) and made of asphalt. Runway 18/36 is 2404 x 150 ft (733 x 46 m) and made of turf, while runway 13/31 is 2285 x 150 ft (696 x 46 m) and also turf. For the 12-month period ending March 31, 2020, the airport averaged 55 aircraft operations per day, or roughly 20,075 per year, all general aviation. For the same time period, there were 48 aircraft based on the field: 31 single-engine, 10 glider, 5 multi-engine, and 2 helicopter. Albertus Airport is home to the Northwest Illinois Airshow. The event started in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic and has continued since. The one-day event features aerobatic aircraft performing stunts.

The Soldiers' Monument is an American Civil War memorial located at the northern corner of Galena Avenue and Stephenson Street in Freeport, Illinois. General Smith D. Atkins designed the monument, which was erected in 1871. The limestone obelisk monument is 83 feet (25 m) tall; a statue of Victory originally topped the monument, but it was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1960. Marble tablets at the base of the memorial listed the names of Stephenson County's Civil War casualties; these were reversed and covered by bronze plaques in 1924 to allow space to list all of the county's Civil War veterans. Four 7-foot (2.1 m) statues were located at the corners of the base, which were replaced by identical replicas in 1924. The statues represent soldiers from each major branch of the Union military: the Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, and Navy. The monument was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 1, 1998.

The Stephenson County Courthouse, located on Courthouse Square in Freeport, is the county courthouse serving Stephenson County, Illinois. The present courthouse was built in 1975, replacing a historic courthouse built on the site in 1870. Elijah E. Myers, who went on to design three state capitols, designed the 1870 courthouse in the Second Empire style; the building, which featured a mansard roof and a projecting entrance pavilion, was Myers' only Second Empire work. The 1870 courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, but it was demolished later that year as insufficient for the county's needs; despite its demolition, it remains listed on the National Register. The present courthouse was completed the following year, though by 2008, it was also reported to have insufficient space for the county's needs.

The Winneshiek Players is an amateur theater group in Freeport, Illinois. It was founded in 1916 and has offered a season of performances for every year since 1926. The Winneshiek Players claims to be the oldest continuously operating volunteer (amateur) theater group in the United States. Its current building first hosted a theatrical performance in April, 1936. In the 20 years before then, productions were staged in various indoor and outdoor locations around the town of Freeport.

Freeport is the county seat and largest city of Stephenson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,973 at the 2020 census, and the mayor of Freeport is Jodi Miller, elected in 2017. Freeport is known for hosting the second Lincoln-Douglas debate of 1858, and as "Pretzel City, USA", due to a popular local German bakery that became well known for its prolific pretzel production after it opened in 1869. Freeport High School's mascot is the Pretzel to honor its heritage.
