Croxton Park

Framland was a hundred in north-east Leicestershire, England, roughly corresponding to today's borough of Melton. It was recorded in the Domesday Book as one of Leicestershire's four wapentakes. The name remains in use as a deanery of the Diocese of Leicester in the Church of England. The original meeting place of the hundred was at Great Framland.

Bescaby is a hamlet, deserted medieval village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Sproxton, in the Melton district, in Leicestershire, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 17. The hamlet of Bescaby lies close to Waltham-on-the-Wolds, Stonesby & Croxton Kerrial. Bescaby was formerly an ex-parochial manor, in 1858 it became a civil parish belonging to the Dukes of Rutland, and in 1871 had a population of 31 persons, living in 4 houses, on about 1,200 acres (4.9 km2) of land. On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished and merged with Sproxton. It was previously the demesne of Croxton Abbey, near which stood some extensive buildings, surrounded by a moat. Traces of these buildings are still to be seen near a place called Friars' Walk. William Furnival held the manor in 1382. The chief branch of the river Eye has its source in the locality, near Bescaby Oaks. It is a ‘fine spring of hard water which flows in front of Bescaby House, the residence of John Edward Bright. Bescaby was part of the Melton Mowbray Union, which comprised 56 parishes. The union workhouse, built in 1836 was situated on the east side of Melton Mowbray and was capable of housing 250 inmates. The 1871 census shows 126 paupers in residence.

Stonesby Quarry is a 3.2 hectares (7.9 acres) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Stonesby and Waltham on the Wolds in Leicestershire. It is part of a 4 hectare nature reserve managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust. This site on Jurassic Lincolnshire Limestone has grassland with diverse herb species, such as autumn gentian, cowslip, dwarf thistle, small scabious, pyramidal orchid and clustered bellflower. A public footpath from Waltham on the Wolds goes through the site.

Waltham on the Wolds is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold, in the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England. It lies about 5 miles (8.0 km) north-east of Melton Mowbray and 11 miles (17.7 km) south-west of Grantham on the main A607 road. In 1931 the parish had a population of 510. The population of Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold was 967 in 2011.

Stonesby is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Sproxton, within the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England. It is 6 miles (9.7 km) northeast of Melton Mowbray, and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) southeast of Waltham on the Wolds. In 1931 the parish had a population of 140. Stonesby broadly consists of a small number of limestone habitats concentrated around the local parish church, set amongst a broad area of arable land.

Croxton Kerrial (pronounced [ˈkroʊsən ˈkɛrɨl]) is a village and civil parish in the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England, 6.6 miles (10.6 km) south-west of Grantham, 7.9 miles (12.7 km) north-east of Melton Mowbray, and 0.5 miles (0.8 km) west of Leicestershire's border with Lincolnshire. The civil parish includes the village of Branston and had a population of 530 at the 2011 census.

Waltham on the Wolds railway station was a railway station at the end of the Waltham Branch, serving the village of Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire. The Waltham Branch was built by the Great Northern Railway from the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway at Scalford to exploit ironstone deposits in the area. The station opened in April 1883 but never had a regular passenger train service, which was confirmed in the edition of The Railway Magazine published in May 1932. Instead, it was used only for specials bringing visitors to Waltham Fair or to race meetings at Croxton Park until at least 1907 or 1906. The Eaton Branch Railway began at "Eaton Junction" immediately south of the station. It served the ironstone quarries that surrounded the village of Eaton. From 1916 to 1918, the line was used for military specials serving Harrowby Army Camp, after which it was used for freight or occasional enthusiast specials, until completely closed in 1964.

Knipton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Belvoir, in the Melton district, in the county of Leicestershire, England. It lies about 6 miles (10 km) from the town of Grantham, just off the A607, and 10 miles (16 km) from Melton Mowbray. It borders the Duke of Rutland's estate at Belvoir Castle. Although the village is in Leicestershire, it has a Nottinghamshire postcode and a Lincolnshire (Grantham) STD code. In 1931 the parish had a population of 273. On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished and merged with Belvoir.

Eaton is a village and civil parish in Leicestershire, England, situated in the Vale of Belvoir. The population at the 2011 census (including Eastwell and Goadby Marwood) was 648. The civil parish includes nearby Eastwell to the west of the village. Eaton has a church, a village hall and a children's park, but the public house called The Castle and its adjacent shop have closed.

The Waltham Iron Ore Tramway was a 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge industrial tramway serving the ironstone pits of the Waltham Iron Ore Company, a subsidiary of the Staveley Coal and Iron Company. It was located to the north of the village of Branston in Leicestershire on the edge of the Belvoir Estate. The tramway operated from 1884 until 1958.

The Waltham transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility at Waltham-on-the-Wolds, 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Melton Mowbray. It sits inside the Waltham civil parish near Stonesby, in the district of Melton, Leicestershire, UK. It has a 315 metres (1,033 ft) guyed steel tubular mast. The main structure height to the top of the steelwork is 290.8 metres (954 ft), with the UHF television antennas contained within a GRP shroud mounted on top.

Melton is a local government district with borough status in north-eastern Leicestershire, England. It is named after its only town, Melton Mowbray. The borough also includes numerous villages and surrounding rural areas. The north of the district includes part of the Vale of Belvoir. Melton is the least populous district of its type and the fourth least populous district in England overall. The neighbouring districts are Harborough, Charnwood, Rushcliffe, Newark and Sherwood, South Kesteven and Rutland.
