Emlyn

Llandyfriog is a community in Ceredigion, Wales. It includes the Adpar part of Newcastle Emlyn and the villages, Bangor Teifi, Trebedw, Bryndioddef-isaf, Glyncaled, Berthyfedwen, Pont Ceri and Llanfair Orllwyn. In 2011, the population of the community was 1835 with 54.7% able to speak Welsh. Gerard H. L. Fitzwilliams M.D., Ch.B., F.R.C.S., (1882–1968), was a British physician who worked in Hong Kong and a spy in Russia at the end of WWI; he was born in the village.

Berthyfedwen is a small village in the community of Llandyfriog, Ceredigion, Wales, which is 65.8 miles (105.9 km) from Cardiff and 187.1 miles (301 km) from London. Berthyfedwen is represented in the Senedd by Elin Jones (Plaid Cymru) and is part of the Ceredigion constituency in the House of Commons.

Cwmhiraeth is a hamlet in Carmarthenshire, Wales, contained in the Dre-fach Felindre district. While the name has no exact meaning in English, it can be roughly translated to "valley of longing". Cwmhiraeth used to be a source of activity for the textile industry, but has since declined.

Aber-arad is a village in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Aber-Arad lies less than one mile to the east of Newcastle Emlyn. In 1870–72, John Marius Wilson in the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Aber Arad as: ABERARAD, a village in the parish of Kenarth, Carmarthen; a mile east of Newcastle-Emlyn.

The Teifi Valley Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd Dyffryn Teifi) is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway occupying a section of the former standard gauge Great Western Railway line between Llandysul and Newcastle Emlyn. After the closure of the former line by British Rail in 1973, a preservation group built and periodically extended a narrow-gauge railway along the route, westwards from Henllan, eventually operating a 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) long line as a tourist attraction. In 2014, the railway closed and much of the track was lifted. It re-opened in 2016, running along about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) of relaid track.

Newcastle Emlyn was a railway station terminus in the town of Newcastle Emlyn, West Wales, on the proposed broad gauge Teifi Valley line of the Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway.

The Llandyfriog transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility located on high ground several kilometres east of the town of Newcastle Emlyn, Ceredigion, South Wales. It was built in 1980 to relay VHF radio and UHF television to Newcastle Emlyn and the area in general. The site has a 25 m self-standing lattice mast erected on land that is itself about 105 m above sea level and acts as an off-air television relay of Preseli, about 20 km to the west. Since Winter 1981 Llandyfriog has transmitted FM radio, acting as an off-air relay of Blaenplwyf about 50 km to the north. In Spring 1983 the radio services were upgraded to stereo. Currently, Llandyfriog transmitter provides DVB-T digital television to the area, along with FM radio.

Newcastle Emlyn Castle (Welsh: Castell Newydd Emlyn) is a ruined castle in the market town of Newcastle Emlyn in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is strategically located on a steep-sided promontory overlooking the River Teifi and was probably built by the Welsh lord Maredudd ap Rhys in about 1240. It changed hands many times over the years in battles between the Welsh and English, and during the English Civil War. The remains of the gatehouse and adjacent towers, and some fragments of wall are all that remain visible now.

Bryndioddef-isaf is a hamlet in the community of Llandyfriog, Ceredigion, Wales, which is 67.6 miles (108.8 km) from Cardiff and 189.1 miles (304.2 km) from London. Bryndioddef-isaf is represented in the Senedd by Elin Jones (Plaid Cymru) and is part of the Ceredigion constituency in the House of Commons.

Cawdor Hall (Welsh: Neuadd Cawdor), also known as Newcastle Emlyn Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Castellnewydd Emlyn), is a municipal building in the Market Square, Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire, Wales. The structure, which is currently used as a theatre, is a Grade II listed building.

Adpar, formerly Trefhedyn, is a village in Ceredigion, Wales, in the community of Llandyfriog, now considered as a part of Newcastle Emlyn to which it is joined by a bridge across the River Teifi. In ancient times Adpar was a borough in its own right.

Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn is a mixed, community comprehensive school in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It has around 520 pupils, catering for all abilities across an age range of 11 to 19 years. The school was established in 1994 following the re-organisation of secondary education provision in the area, although parts of the school were built in 1945. Due to its close proximity to the county border, pupils from both Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion attend a school. As of 2017, 30% of pupils speak Welsh at home. However, school data indicates that 23% of pupils are considered to be fluent in Welsh. Approximately 47% of pupils completed their primary education through the medium of Welsh.
