The surficial geology in its vicinity consists of Wisconsinan Ice-Contact Stratified Drift, Wisconsinan Till, Boulder Colluvium, alluvium, bedrock, sand and gravel pits, fill, wetlands, peat bogs, and a lake.

The watershed of the stream has an area of 5.90 square miles (15.3 km2). Wild trout naturally reproduce within the stream and many macroinvertebrate taxa inhabit it. The surficial geology in the area consists of Wisconsinan Till, Wisconsinan Ice-Contact Stratified Drift, alluvium, bedrock, fill, sand and gravel pits, and wetlands.

Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) (previously known as Tobyhanna Signal Depot) is a 'full-service electronics maintenance facility' tasked to provide logistical support for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Systems for the United States Department of Defense. The depot was established on February 1, 1953, in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, near Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania.It is the largest industrial employer in Northeastern PA. It supports the "sustainment, overhaul and repair, fabrication and manufacturing, engineering design and development, systems integration, technology insertion, modification, and global field support." TYAD also facilitates the United States Air Force Technology Repair Center for tactical ballistic missiles, rigid-wall shelters, and portable buildings.

Tobyhanna station is a proposed NJ Transit commuter rail station that is located in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The station forms part of a site owned by a number of public and private entities including the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority. Its site is adjacent to the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (and later, Erie Lackawanna) station. The building remains in place and is in use as the local historical society rail museum. In spring 2021, Amtrak announced plans to establish a New York-Scranton route.
