Sunbury, Pennsylvania

The Sunbury Historic District is a national historic district located at Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. It encompasses 238 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Sunbury. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Hotel Edison in Sunbury, Pennsylvania was built in 1871 by entrepreneur Edward T. Drumheller and opened as the City Hotel in January 1872. It was the first building to be lit with Thomas Edison's three-wire system in July 1883.Renamed the Hotel Edison in 1922 during Sunbury's 150th anniversary, it has fifty-one rooms and fifteen residential apartments, and is located on Fourth and Market Streets.

Shamokin (; Saponi Algonquian Schahamokink: "place of crawfish") (Lenape: Shahëmokink) was a multi-ethnic Native American trading village on the Susquehanna River, located partially within the limits of the modern cities of Sunbury and Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania. It should not be confused with present-day Shamokin, Pennsylvania, located to the east. The village was the focus of missionary efforts, and then was the staging area for raids on English settlements in Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War. It was burned and abandoned by the Lenape in May, 1756. A few months later, Fort Augusta was constructed on the site of the village.

The Northumberland County Courthouse is an historic county courthouse located in Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Erected in 1865, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Beck House, also known as the Old Scott House, is a historic home located at Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. It was included by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in its Inventory of Historical Places in April 1975, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Shikellamy High School is a public high school located in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, United States. The building was built in 1929. It is part of the Shikellamy School District. It is the sole public high school for the communities of Northumberland, Point Township, Rockefeller Township, Snydertown Borough, the City of Sunbury, and Upper Augusta Township. It was a combined middle/high school between 2011 and 2016, but there is now Shikellamy Middle School for grades 6 through 8 in Northumberland.

Pomfret Manor Cemetery is a cemetery located in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Former members of the United States Congress and U.S. Medal of Honor winners are among the notable interments here.

The Northumberland County Historical Society is a Pennsylvania nonprofit organization, which was chartered on October 26, 1925 and incorporated on May 21, 1998. Its leaders, members and volunteers are dedicated to the collection, preservation and exhibition of artifacts, documents, photographs, and other items which tell the story of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania and its people.Headquartered at the Hunter House Museum at historic Fort Augusta in Pennsylvania's upper Susquehanna Valley, the Historical Society is also home to the Charlotte Darrah Walter Genealogical Library, and presents programs on topics of interest to historians, genealogists and members of the general public at various times during each calendar year. The facilities, which are open from March through December (but closed during the winter months), are physically located at 1150 North Front Street in Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

Fort Augusta was a stronghold in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, in the upper Susquehanna Valley from the time of the French and Indian War to the close of the American Revolution. At the time, it was the largest British fort in Pennsylvania, with earthen walls more than two hundred feet long topped by wooden fortifications. With a garrison of over 300 troops and walls specially constructed to resist artillery, it presented a formidable defense and was never attacked. It served as a refuge for local settlers during the French and Indian War and during the American Revolutionary War. It was abandoned in 1780 and dismantled in 1796.

Little Shamokin Creek is a 15.0-mile-long (24.1 km) tributary of Shamokin Creek and a sub-tributary of the Susquehanna River in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. The watershed of the creek has an area of 37 square miles, spread out over Upper Augusta Township, Lower Augusta Township, Rockefeller Township, and Shamokin Township. The creek's watershed contains four rock formations. These are the Hamilton Group, the Spechty Kopf formation, the Irish Valley formation, and the Buddy Run formation. The watershed also contains three main soil types. They are the Berks-Weikert-Bedington series, the Leck Kill-Meckesville-Calvin series and the Hazelton-Dekalb-Buchanan series. Little Shamokin Creek is the only stream in the Shamokin Creek watershed where fish can survive, as of 1999.

Sunbury Armory is a historic National Guard armory located near Sunbury, in Upper Augusta Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1938, and is a two-story, "I"-plan building consisting of an administration section, stable, and drill hall. It is constructed of concrete block with a brick veneer and executed in the Moderne style.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Bloody Spring is a historical site in the Sunbury, Pennsylvania area. Located on school district property, it is purported to be the location where a soldier from Fort Augusta that was guarding cattle was ambushed and murdered by a Native American tribe member in 1756, during the French and Indian War. His blood is said to have colored the water in the spring red, resulting in the name, The Bloody Spring. The site, located on Memorial Drive and .1 miles south of Shikellamy Avenue, is marked with a historical marker.
