The Lee and Virginia Graver Arboretum (63 acres) is an arboretum owned by Muhlenberg College and located at 1581 Bushkill Center Road, Bath, Pennsylvania. The arboretum is open daily without charge. The arboretum was established more than 40 years ago by Dr. Lee and Virginia Graver, who cultivated wildflowers, ferns, rhododendrons, and native and rare trees, including more than 150 conifer species. The Gravers donated their property to Muhlenberg College in 1994. Principal plant collections of the Lee and Virginia Graver Arboretum include: Conifers - Abies, Cedrus, Chamaecyparis, Cupressus, Juniperus, Larix, Metasequoia, Picea, Pinus, Pseudotsuga, Sequoiadendron, Taxodium, Thuja, Tsuga, and others. Buckwha Creek is a 12.6-mile-long (20.3 km) tributary of Aquashicola Creek in the Poconos of eastern Pennsylvania in the United States.The creek originates in a swamp to the southwest of Saylorsburg, flowing southwest along the northwest side of Chestnut Ridge. About five miles below its source, it is dammed to form Princess Lake, about a mile above Kunkletown. Buckwha Creek cuts south through Chestnut Ridge at Little Gap and joins Aquashicola Creek approximately 1.2 miles (1.9 km) downstream.

The Ross Township Municipal Building shooting occurred just after 7:00 p.m. on August 5, 2013, in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, United States, a small town in Monroe County. A gunman went on a shooting rampage at a public meeting of township supervisors in the municipal building, leaving three people dead and three others injured. The gunman, identified as Rockne Newell, was described as having long feuded with township officials.While approaching the building, Newell fired a .223 Ruger Mini-14 rifle into the building 28 times, through windows. Then, he went back to his car to retrieve a 6-shot .44 Magnum Revolver before entering the building and the meeting room. There, he began shooting the handgun at meeting attendees. While the gunman was still shooting, two men struggled with him over the gun. They subdued, disarmed, and held him, preventing further deaths and injuries. Linda Kozic, Frank Pirano, and Howard Beers were injured; while David Fleetwood, Gerard Kozic, and James "Vinny" LaGuardia were fatally wounded. During the struggle over the gun with Bernard Kozen and Mark Krashe, the gunman was wounded in the leg with his own weapon.

For generations, local landowners and conservation organizations safeguarded the valley’s clean waters and important natural communities. Recent rapid residential and commercial growth in Monroe County, however, has outpaced efforts to protect these resources. The county is within a two-hour drive of millions of people. In December 2008, the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service approved the establishment of the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Monroe County, Pennsylvania after a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was issued by the Northeast Regional Director.
