Metelsdorf is a municipality in the Nordwestmecklenburg district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Dorf Mecklenburg station is a railway station in the municipality of Dorf Mecklenburg, located in the Nordwestmecklenburg district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Mecklenburg (German pronunciation: [ˈmeːklənbʊʁk]; Low German: Mękel(n)borg [ˈmɛːkəl(n)bɔrx]) is a historical region in northern Germany comprising the western and larger part of the federal-state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The largest cities of the region are Rostock, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, Wismar and Güstrow. The name Mecklenburg derives from a castle named Mikilenburg (Old Saxon for "big castle", hence its translation into Neo-Latin and Greek as Megalopolis), located between the cities of Schwerin and Wismar. In Slavic languages it was known as Veligrad, which also means "big castle". It was the ancestral seat of the House of Mecklenburg; for a time the area was divided into Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz among the same dynasty. Linguistically Mecklenburgers retain and use many features of Low German vocabulary or phonology. The adjective for the region is Mecklenburgian or Mecklenburgish (German: mecklenburgisch); inhabitants are called Mecklenburgians or Mecklenburgers (German: Mecklenburger).

Mecklenburg Castle was a medieval castle and a residential capital of the Nakonid and Nikloting dynasties of the Obotrites. It was located just south of the modern village Dorf Mecklenburg, seven kilometres (4 miles) south of the Bay of Wismar in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The only remnants of the ruined castle are parts of an earthen wall. Some scholars have associated Mecklenburg with the medieval trading emporium Reric.

Fischteich is a lake in the Nordwestmecklenburg district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. At an elevation of 6.8 m, its surface area is 0.266 km².

Viereggenhöfer Teich is a lake in Wismar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. At an elevation of 8 m, its surface area is 0.37 km².

Petersdorf station was a railway station in the Petersdorf part of the municipality of Dorf Mecklenburg, located in the Nordwestmecklenburg district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

Mühlenteich is a lake in Wismar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Its elevation is 4 m (13 ft) and its surface area is 0.482 km2 (0.186 sq mi). The water body is highly indented. There is a prominent southern bay with two smaller islands and a distinct northern bay. The Mühlenteich has a north-south extension of about 1700 metres and a west-east extension of about 400 metres. Large parts of the pond shore, especially in the south, are marshy and mostly silted up. The Wallenstein Ditch, which is dammed in the pond, flows into it in the southwest and leaves it again in the north. In addition, the Mühlenbach flows off in the west through the inner city towards the Baltic Sea. Another tributary is a ditch from the south-east. The south-western part of the water body belongs to the nature reserve Teichgebiet Wismar-Kluß. The pond is used for commercial trout farming. At times, the Mühlenteich served as Wismar's drinking water supply. When the water pipes from springs near Metelsdorf were cut during the siege of Wismar in 1675, drawing water from only one region proved disadvantageous. Therefore, from 1685 onwards, water was additionally pumped from the mill pond into a former defence tower, which was part of the city's fortifications and is now called the Old Water Tower, and piped from there. Due to the danger of cholera, the water from the pond was not allowed to be mixed with Metelsdorf water since 1892.

The Wismar Theatre (German: Theater Wismar) is located on the site of the University of Wismar on Phillip-Müller-Straße in the Hanseatic Town of Wismar .

The Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences: Technology, Business and Design (or short: University of Wismar), is the third-biggest and third-oldest public university in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The university is situated at the Baltic coast in the very north of Germany with its campus being only 500 metres (550 yards) away from the harbor. The university was founded in 1908 as an engineering academy and has become an important part in the city's cultural life.

St Nicholas of Wismar was built from 1381 until 1487 as a church for sailors and fishermen. St Nicholas is one of the finest testaments to mediaeval brick architecture in northern Germany. Based on the design of Marienkirche (St Mary's) in Lübeck it is the second highest brick basilica church in the world after St Mary's of Lübeck. St Nicholas along with St Mary's and St George's is one of the three great churches that dominate the skyline of the city of Wismar. As part of Wismar's historic centre, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002.

Grube is a river in Wismar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It discharges into the old port of Wismar, which is connected to the Baltic Sea.
