Český Krumlov District

The Duchy of Krumlov (Krumau in German) was a titular duchy in the southern part of the Kingdom of Bohemia, comprising the town of Český Krumlov and its surrounding territories, now in the Czech Republic. In 1628, it was given to Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg by King Ferdinand II when he bestowed upon Hans Ulrich the title of Duke of Krumlov. The Bohemian possessions of the Eggenbergs later went to Hans Ulrich's son, Johann Anton von Eggenberg (1610–1649). In 1649, the title passed to Johann Anton's son, Johann Christian von Eggenberg. He married Princess Marie Ernestine of Schwarzenberg, who was a member of the noble House of Schwarzenberg. Upon the death of Johann Christian, the male line of the House of Eggenberg came to an end. The death of Marie Ernestine in 1719 caused the Bohemian possessions of the Eggenbergs to pass to her closest relatives in the Schwarzenberg family. As a result, the Duchy of Krumlov was obtained by Prince Adam Francis Charles of Schwarzenberg in 1723, and the title of Duke of Krumlov is reserved for the Head of the House of Schwarzenberg.

Bohdalovice (German: Podesdorf) is a municipality and village in Český Krumlov District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 300 inhabitants. Bohdalovice lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of Český Krumlov, 30 km (19 mi) south-west of České Budějovice, and 150 km (93 mi) south of Prague.

Přídolí (German: Priethal) is a market town in Český Krumlov District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 700 inhabitants.

St. Vitus Church in Český Krumlov, Czech Republic, is an important late-Gothic monument from 1407 to 1438, with later modifications. In 1995 it was declared a National Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic.

Český Krumlov (Czech pronunciation: [ˈtʃɛskiː ˈkrumlof] (listen); German: Krumau or Böhmisch Krumau) is a town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 13,000 inhabitants. It is known as a tourist centre, which is among the most visited places in the country. The historic centre with the Český Krumlov Castle complex is protected by law as an urban monument reservation, and since 1992, it has been a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its well-preserved Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture.

Český Krumlov Castle is a castle in Český Krumlov in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It dates back to 1240 when the first castle was built by the Vítkovci family, the main branch of the powerful Bohemian family Rosenberg. Currently the castle is listed as a national heritage site and thus serves as a major tourist attraction. It is the second most visited castle in the Czech Republic, after Prague Castle.

Pivovar Eggenberg is a brewery in Český Krumlov, Czech Republic. Brewing in Český Krumlov dates back to 1336. The House of Rosenberg acquired a brewery in the town in 1522 and relocated it to its current location from 1625 to 1630. After the death of the male inheritors of the House of Rosenberg (1611), in 1622 the dominion was given to the House of Eggenberg and in 1628 Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg was named Duke of Krumau by Ferdinand II. Thus the House of Eggenberg acquired the lucrative dominion including possession of Český Krumlov Castle and the brewery. The Eggenberg's held the dominion in their possession until 1717 when the last male heir to the House of Eggenberg died at only 13, after which the dominion and the Eggenberg Bohemian possessions passed to the House of Schwarzenberg which began modernizing the brewery in 1719 and decorated it in the Baroque style. The brewery's equipment and machinery were kept up to date during the Schwarzenbergs' ownership. Production volumes increased dramatically during this period, reaching almost 35.000hl at the end of the 19th century. Hops from their Postoloprty estate were used from the late 18th century onwards. Srnín is a municipality and village in Český Krumlov District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 400 inhabitants. Srnín lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) north of Český Krumlov, 18 km (11 mi) south-west of České Budějovice, and 138 km (86 mi) south of Prague.

Mirkovice (German: Mirkowitz) is a municipality and village in Český Krumlov District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 500 inhabitants. The village centre is well preserved and is protected by law as a village monument zone. Mirkovice lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) east of Český Krumlov, 19 km (12 mi) south of České Budějovice, and 142 km (88 mi) south of Prague.
