Shawnee, Oklahoma

The Governor's Mansion in Shawnee, Oklahoma was built in 1903, on the speculation that Shawnee would be selected as the state capital and that this structure would become the Governor's official residence when Oklahoma became a state. However, Oklahoma did not attain statehood until 1907, and the Legislature chose Guthrie as the first capital, before naming Oklahoma City as the permanent state capital in 1910. The house was built in an area known as Shawnee's first neighborhood, "...where the first generation of merchants, town leaders and early professionals lived." The house was never used as the Governor's Mansion. Once it was clear that Shawnee would not become the state capital, the mansion became just another private residence. It is also known as the Giza House, because it was once owned by Zygmund O. Giza. It is still considered a local landmark and local residents still refer to it as the Governor's Mansion. It was registered with the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Shawnee Regional Airport (IATA: SNL, ICAO: KSNL, FAA LID: SNL) is two miles northwest of Shawnee, in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. It was formerly Shawnee Municipal Airport. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 called it a general aviation facility. In 2011 the airport opened a new terminal building. The 4,000 sq ft (370 m2) building has a conference room and observation deck. The previous terminal was built in 1953. Central Airlines scheduled flights to Shawnee from 1950 to 1954.

Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) is a private Baptist university in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It was established in 1910 under the original name of The Baptist University of Oklahoma. OBU is owned and was founded by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

The Beard Cabin is a historic cabin listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Built in 1892, it is considered to be the first home built in Shawnee. The cabin was built by Etta Ray and her father, P.H. Ray. Assisting were Etta's future brother-in-law, John Beard as well as John's sister, Lola Beard. Etta later married Henry Beard and they were the first inhabitants. Sleeping quarters are located on the upper floor of the cabin. The home is furnished and may be toured by making arrangements at the Santa Fe Depot Museum. In 1999, the cabin was restored and moved to its present location, near the Santa Fe Depot on Main Street, after being damaged in a windstorm at Woodland Park in Shawnee. The Cleo Craig Foundation provided the funds for the relocation.

Arts Trek was an annual cultural festival in Shawnee, Oklahoma, United States, in mid-spring. It was an event by the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art and was located on the former campus of St. Gregory's University. The one-day festival featured a performance walk, in which visitors move around campus in an organized trek to view fine arts performances such as choirs, spoken word art, theatre production scenes, interpretive dance, and live mural painting. In 2012, Arts Trek was awarded "Outstanding Event" by the Central Oklahoma Frontier Country Marketing Association. The festival received the award again in 2014. This Shawnee arts festival premiered in 2009. The final Arts Trek to date was in April of 2020.

KOGD-LP (107.1 FM) is a low-power FM radio station licensed to Shawnee, Oklahoma, United States. The station is currently owned by Benedictine Fathers Of Sacred Heart Mission, Inc.

Benedictine Hall is located on the Green Campus of Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It was the central feature of the now-closed St. Gregory's University (also known as St. Gregory's Abbey and College), housing its administration, library and most of its classes. Designed by St. Louis architect Victor Klutho, the facility opened in the fall of 1915. St. Gregory's College grew from the Sacred Heart Mission in Sacred Heart, Oklahoma. Established in 1876 in what was then called Indian Territory, the mission school considered moving to a more populated area in the 1890s. After a 1901 fire that destroyed much of what was then called the "Catholic University of Oklahoma", the decision was made to move the high school and college to Shawnee, 35 miles (56 km) to the north. Viktor Klutho was hired to design the new facility. A specialist in Tudor revival architecture, Klutho designed a massive five-story brick building to combine church, school and abbey in a single edifice, opening to 40 boys in the fall term of 1915. This served until the 1940s when a new church was built nearby, and in the 1950s the abbey moved to a new campus adjoining the school. In the 1960s the school discontinued high school education and admitted women to the college.

St. Gregory's Abbey is a Roman Catholic monastery of the American-Cassinese Congregation of the Benedictine Confederation. The monastery, founded by monks of the French monastery of Sainte-Marie de la Pierre-qui-Vire in 1876, was originally located in present-day Konawa, Oklahoma and called Sacred Heart Abbey. At present the community numbers around twenty-one monks who celebrate the Eucharist and Liturgy of the Hours. They used to staff various parishes but no longer do so, and their school, St. Gregory's University, was closed and filed for bankruptcy in 2017. The abbey is located in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

St. Gregory's University was a private Catholic university. It was one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It had its main campus in Shawnee and an additional campus in Tulsa. The university closed its operations at the end of the fall 2017 semester. In December 2018 the sale of the Shawnee campus to Hobby Lobby was approved by the bankruptcy court. The campus was leased to Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU), a private Protestant university in Shawnee. In May 2019, OBU renamed the tract as the OBU Green Campus, both in honor of the Green family, owners of Hobby Lobby, and because the color green is one of OBU’s official university colors. In December 2019, Hobby Lobby and the Green family donated the campus to OBU. OBU also retains academic records from St. Gregory's, including student transcripts.

The Shawnee Mall is a regional shopping mall and trade area located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It contains four department store anchors, and a total of 50 tenants comprising a total of approximately 455,420 square feet of gross leasable area. Anchor stores are Dillard's, Dunham's Sports, JCPenney (now closed), Jo-Ann's Fabrics, Golden Ticket Cinema, Kohl's, Ross Dress For Less, and Shoe Dept. Encore. Herring Marathon and JCPenney built the mall. It opened in March 1989, with JCPenney, Sears, Walmart, and Dillard's as the anchor stores. A new Walmart Supercenter opened outside the mall on August 25, 2004. In 2013, Jo-Ann opened in the former Old Navy. The closure of the Sears store was announced in January 2014. That space is now occupied by Dunham's Sports. The closure of the JCPenney store was announced on June 4, 2020. The space will be an Ashley HomeStore.

The Shawnee Friends Mission is a historic Quaker mission and meeting house south of Shawnee, Oklahoma. It was built around 1880 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Mission work by the Society of Friends began around 1871. The Friends Meeting House, built was built around 1880 and survives in good condition in 1972.
