Jefferson County is located in the north central portion of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 782,969. It is the most populous county in the commonwealth (with more than twice the population of second ranked Fayette County). Since a city-county merger in 2003, the county's territory, population and government have been coextensive with the city of Louisville, which also serves as county seat. The administrative entity created by this merger is the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, abbreviated to Louisville Metro.Jefferson County is the anchor of the Louisville-Jefferson County, KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area, locally referred to as Kentuckiana.

West Buechel is a home rule-class city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,230 at the 2010 census, down from 1,301 at the 2000 census.

Watterson Park is a home rule-class city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 976 at the 2010 census.

Bashford Manor Mall, named for the surrounding neighborhood of Bashford Manor, was a 560,000-square-foot (52,000 m2) enclosed mall in Louisville, Kentucky which opened in 1973 and once had about 85 stores, including Ayr-Way, Bacon's, and Ben Snyder's.

Bashford Manor Stable was an American Thoroughbred racing and breeding operation in Louisville, Kentucky owned by George James Long. In 1874 James Bennett Wilder built a home on farm acreage he called Bashford Manor. In 1887 George Long purchased Bashford Manor and developed it into a leading Thoroughbred horse farm which bred three Kentucky Derby winners. To stock his new breeding operation. George Long acquired horses from the Erdenheim Stud of Norman W. Kittson. Following the May 1888 death of Norman W. Kittson, in November his estate auctioned the bloodstock and Long purchased the sire Alarm and two of his broodmare daughters, Luminous and Albia. The then nineteen-year-old Alarm had notably been the sire of Himyar and Panique. Alarm died at Bashford Manor in 1895 and was buried in the farm's equine cemetery.The stable bred and raced Azra who won the 1892 Derby and Sir Huon who won it in 1906. Under Long's name, he raced homebred Hindus who won the 1900 Preakness Stakes. As well, George Long bred Manuel who won the 1899 Derby for Alfred & Dave Morris. The Thoroughbred operation continued until 1922 when the bloodstock was sold. The home remained in Long's family until being sold in 1951. The property was annexed by the City of Louisville in 1953. The barns were torn down in 1970 and the house in 1973. The Bashford Manor area of Louisville was developed into residential homes and a shopping mall. Churchill Downs in Louisville honors the racing and breeding stable with the annual running of the Bashford Manor Stakes.

Buechel is a former census-designated place in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 7,272 at the 2000 census. Since 2003, it has been part of the city of Louisville due to a merger between the city and Jefferson County's unincorporated areas. Buechel is now a neighborhood within the city limits of Louisville. It is named after John Buechel, a Swiss carpenter and tavern owner who established a post office at his White Cottage tavern in 1883.

Bashford Manor is a neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are I-264 to the north, Bardstown Road to the east, Bashford Manor Lane to the south, and Newburg Road to the west. Originally a part of Thomas Byrd's 1,000 acre (4 km2) land grant from Virginia in 1787, James Bennett Wilder bought the land in 1870 and built a home which he named Bashford Manor, after his family's home in England. He sold the property to George James Long in 1888, who turned it into a horse farm which produced three early Kentucky Derby winners: Azra, Manuel and Sir Huon.The home stayed in his family until it was sold in 1951. It was annexed by Louisville in 1953. Many residential developments began at this time, the first being Harold Miller's Bashford Manor gardens in 1952. Other subdivisions included Manorview and the largest single subdivision, Village Green. Apartment complexes were built during the 1960s, and commercial developments such as Watterson City in 1965. By the 1970s Watterson City was Louisville's largest suburban commercial center, and Bashford Manor Mall was built in the area. The area went into a decline by the 1990s, with the mall and other businesses (such as a once thriving multiplex cinema) closing, although the situation improved in the 2000s when a Walmart and a Lowe's were built on the site of the old mall.

The Bray Place in Louisville, Kentucky refers to the early farmstead and home built in 1796 by Major Samuel E. Bray and his wife, Nancy Lyle Bray from Virginia. The 210 acres (85 ha) was granted by Thomas Jefferson (through William Fleming) to Bray as payment for serving in the Revolutionary War and surveying what was then Virginia. It was bordered by what is now Bardstown Road, Goldsmith Lane and Hikes Lane. The original neighbors were Edward Hikes, Andrew Hikes, and John & Lucy Speed who were parents of Joshua & James Speed. Abraham Lincoln visited the area in August, 1841 for 3 weeks after breaking his engagement with Mary Todd due to her parents’ disapproval of the match. The visit to Farmington and the neighboring Bray family restored his happiness and was known to be one of the happiest times of his life. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Newburg is a former census-designated place in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 20,636 at the 2000 census. On January 6, 2003, the area was annexed to the city of Louisville due to a merger between the city and Jefferson County's unincorporated communities. Newburg is now thought to be a neighborhood (by local media) within the now merged city of Louisville.

The Louisville/Jefferson County metro government (balance) is a statistical entity in the U.S. state of Kentucky defined by the United States Census Bureau to represent the portion of the consolidated city-county of Louisville-Jefferson County that does not include any of the 83 separate incorporated places (municipalities) located within the city and county. It is made of the portion of Jefferson County that was the city of Louisville prior to the 2003 creation of Louisville Metro, plus a large swath of previously unincorporated territory. In the 2010 Census, the balance had a population of 597,337, while the 2010 population of the entire governmental area was 741,096. It is also located within the Louisville-Jefferson County, KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Bon Air is a neighborhood in eastern Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are I-264 to the north, Bardstown Road to the west, Furman Boulevard to the east, and subdivisions to the south. The earliest residential development was the Wellingmoor subdivision in 1939, laid out by Ralph Drake. Growth picked up after World War II, but was broken up somewhat by the construction of the Watterson Expressway in the late 1940s.
