Fremont, Ohio

Sandusky County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 58,896. Its county seat and largest city is Fremont. The county was formed on February 12, 1820, from portions of Huron County. The name is derived from the Wyandot word meaning "water" (Wyandot: saandustee). The Sandusky River runs diagonally northeast through the county to its mouth on Sandusky Bay, opening into Lake Erie. Sandusky County compromises the Fremont, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Terra State Community College is a public community college in Fremont, Ohio. It was founded in 1968 as Vanguard Technical Institute, a night school using the facilities of Vanguard Vocational Center. Terra's district includes Sandusky, Seneca, and the eastern portion of Ottawa counties.

Sandusky Township is one of the twelve townships of Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 census, 3,551 people lived in the township.

Stony Prairie is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,218 at the 2020 census. "Stony Prairie" originally referred to a region in the area.

Fremont Ross High School (FRHS) is a public high school in Fremont, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Fremont City School District, and one of two high schools in Fremont, the other being Saint Joseph Central Catholic High School. The school enrolls 1,265 students as the 2019-2020 School year. Fremont Ross is named for W.W. Ross (1834–1906), who served as the first superintendent of Fremont City Schools for 42 years from 1864 until his death in 1906 at the age of 71. A new high school was built and was finished by the start of the 2021-2022 School Year. The boys' sports teams are called the "Little Giants", while girls' teams are the "Lady Giants". The school's colors are purple and white. The football team has a rivalry with Sandusky High School that dates back to 1895, making it the biggest rivalry in Northwest Ohio. The school is a member of the Northern Lakes League as of the 2023-24 school year.The school was previously a member of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference from 2011-12 to 2022-23.

The Soldiers and McKinley Memorial Parkways are a pair of historic brick streets in Fremont, Ohio, United States. Designed as small parkways, they were constructed in honor of Sandusky County's eighty-five soldiers who were killed in action during World War I. Unlike many similar streets in other cities, they were not built as centerpieces for grand city plans; instead, they were constructed to provide access to a subdivision that had recently been started. Laid out in the form of a cross, the parkways run for four blocks with vegetation between the lanes for the two directions; they were completed in 1920 after a year of construction. Historic research has identified both streets as fine examples of the implementation of City Beautiful ideas in an extant city. Today, the parkways continue to provide access to a residential neighborhood; most of the houses that line the parkways are newer than the streets themselves, having been built primarily between 1930 and 1959. In 1991, the two parkways were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying both because of their importance in community planning and in landscape architecture.

Spiegel Grove, also known as Spiegel Grove State Park, Rutherford B. Hayes House, Rutherford B. Hayes Summer Home and Rutherford B. Hayes State Memorial was the estate of Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th president of the United States, located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland Avenues in Fremont, Ohio. Spiegel is the German and Dutch word for mirror. The traditional story is that the estate was named by Hayes' uncle Sardis Birchard, who first built it for his own residence. He named it for the reflective pools of water that collected on the property after a rain shower. Rutherford Hayes inherited the estate and moved there in 1873. He died in 1893 and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery next to his wife who had died in 1889. Following the gift of this home to the state of Ohio for the Spiegel Grove State Park, their bodies were reinterred at Spiegel Grove in 1915. They are buried at a memorial on the property. The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, established in 1916, is also located here. "Old Whitey", a war horse that served during the Civil War and belonged to then-Major (later Major General) Hayes, became the mascot of the 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The horse was buried at Spiegel Grove upon his death in 1879, with a grave marker reading Old Whitey A Hero of Nineteen Battles 1861–1865. Spiegel Grove was designated as a National Historic Landmark on January 29, 1964. On October 15, 1966, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is a complex comprising several buildings related to the life and presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes. It is the first presidential library, built in 1916, and one of three such libraries for US presidents during the 19th century.

Fremont Speedway, also known as "The Track That Action Built" and "Home of the All Stars", is a semi-banked 1/3 mile clay oval speedway located at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds in Fremont, Ohio, United States. Races are typically held on Saturday nights. Regular events include 410 cubic inch sprint cars, 305 cubic inch sprint cars, and dirt trucks. In 2024, the World of Outlaws sprint car series returns to the speedway for the first time since 2016. The speedway has previously hosted the All Star Circuit of Champions, National Sprint Tour, and United States Auto Club.

Saint Joseph Central Catholic High School (SJCC) is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Fremont, Ohio. It is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo. Athletic teams are known as the "Crimson Streaks".

The Sandusky County Jail and Sheriff's House is a historic government building near downtown Fremont, Ohio, United States. Built in the early 1890s, it was used as an incarceration facility for almost a century before closing and being converted into an office building.
