Parish of St Andrew

St Lawrence Parish is one of the 57 parishes of Cumberland County, New South Wales, Australia, a cadastral unit for use on land titles. It is one of the four small parishes in the Sydney city area. Unlike the other three parishes, St Lawrence was not named after a church, but instead due to confusion over the naming, the parish gave its name to the Christ Church St Laurence. This had been controversial in the 19th century, as it was mistakenly thought that the Anglican church had been given a Catholic saint's name.The area of the parish includes Central station, Museum station, the southern part of Hyde Park below Park street, and Prince Alfred Park. The parish is bounded by George Street in the west, Park Street and a small part of William Street in the north, a line from the intersection of Yurong and William streets to the intersection of Albion and Elizabeth Street in the east, also part of Elizabeth Street forms the boundary further south, as well as Chalmers Street. Regent Street is the boundary in the south west. It includes the ANZAC War Memorial. The parish is relatively thin east-west, so that Central railway station nearly covers the entire width of the parish.

St Andrew's Cathedral (also known as St Andrew's Anglican Cathedral) is a cathedral church of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney in the Anglican Church of Australia. The cathedral is the seat of the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and Metropolitan of New South Wales (currently the Most Reverend Kanishka Raffel from 28 May 2021). The position of Dean of Sydney has been held by the Very Reverend Sandy Grant since 9 December 2021. The St Andrew's has an Evangelical ministry, holding services every day, including a weekly healing service. There is a cathedral choir of men and boys who sing during term time, as well as a company of bell ringers. The notable pipe organ has been restored and is regularly used for recitals and concerts. Designed primarily by Edmund Blacket on foundations laid by James Hume, the cathedral was built from 1837 to 1868, and was ready for services and consecrated in 1868, making it the oldest cathedral in Australia. St Andrew's is one of the city's finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture. Joan Kerr described the cathedral as "a perfect example of the colonial desire to reproduce England in Australia in the mid nineteenth century".The cathedral is located at 1400 George Street in the Sydney central business district of the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales. St Andrew's is owned by the Anglican Church Property Trust. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 3 September 2004; is listed on the City of Sydney local government heritage register; and is listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate.

The Diocese of Sydney is a diocese in Sydney, within the Province of New South Wales of the Anglican Church of Australia. The majority of the diocese is evangelical and low church in tradition.The diocese goes as far as Lithgow in the west and the Hawkesbury River in the north, and it includes much of the New South Wales south coast. It encompasses Australia's largest city as well as the city of Wollongong, and includes Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island. It is, geographically, among the larger Anglican dioceses in the world, though the smallest diocese in the state of New South Wales and one of the smaller dioceses in Australia. Kanishka Raffel, formerly Dean of St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney since 4 February 2016, was elected as Archbishop of Sydney on 6 May 2021, and was consecrated and installed in that position on 28 May 2021.

The Sydney Town Hall is a late 19th-century heritage-listed town hall building in the city of Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, Australia, housing the chambers of the Lord Mayor of Sydney, council offices, and venues for meetings and functions. It is located at 483 George Street, in the Sydney central business district opposite the Queen Victoria Building and alongside St Andrew's Cathedral. Sited above the Town Hall station and between the city shopping and entertainment precincts, the steps of the Town Hall are a popular meeting place. It was designed by John H. Wilson, Edward Bell, Albert Bond, Thomas Sapsford, John Hennessy and George McRae and built from 1869 to 1889 by Kelly and McLeod, Smith and Bennett, McLeod and Noble, J. Stewart and Co. It is also known as Town Hall, Centennial Hall, Main Hall, Peace Hall, Great Hall and Old Burial Ground. The Town Hall is listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate and the New South Wales State Heritage Register and is part of the heritage-listed Town Hall precinct which includes the Queen Victoria Building, St Andrew's Cathedral, the Gresham Hotel and the former Bank of New South Wales. In latter years, it has been discovered that Town Hall lies on top of part of a cemetery complex. Renovations were undertaken in 2008-9 primarily to upgrade the mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and communication services within the building. The renovations, completed by Kell & Rigby, included removing 6,000 cubic metres (210,000 cu ft) of sandstone from underneath the building.

The property is privately owned. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

St Andrew's Cathedral School is a multi-campus independent Anglican co-educational comprehensive and specialist primary and secondary day school, located in the Sydney central business district, New South Wales, Australia. The school currently caters for approximately 1450 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. The School is one of Sydney's oldest, founded in 1885, as a choir school for St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney. St Andrew's is legally supervised by the Cathedral Chapter which appoints and approves members of the School Council which was formed in 1979. The council is responsible for administering the School's policies and formulating its mission and vision as well as appointing successive Heads of School. A boys' school for much of its history, St Andrew's opened its doors to senior girls (Year 10 to Year 12) in 1999. In 2008, the school became a fully co-educational school with boys and girls enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 12. In addition to providing a comprehensive education and a specialist choir school, the School operates an Indigenous primary school, called Gawura. The School is a member of the International Choir Schools' Association, the Independent Schools Association (ISA), the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), and the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA).In 2009, St Andrew's became an IB World School and commenced offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma as an alternative leaving qualification to the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC).

The College of Law is the school of professional practice for lawyers in Australia and New Zealand. They are also the largest provider of practice-focused legal education in Australasia. Their mission is to deliver innovative, practice-focused and flexible education and training to enhance the careers of professionals in the legal services industry. Since commencing operations in New South Wales in 1974, the organisation has grown to become largest provider of practical legal training (PLT) in Australia and New Zealand. The College claims more than 65,000 graduates, with more than 25,000 of these in New South Wales. In 2016, annual enrolments in the College's award programs in Australia exceeded 5,000.

Mary Andrews College, formerly known as Deaconess House, is a Bible college in Sydney. It is the only one in Australia with an exclusively female student body. Mary Andrews College offers diplomas through the Australian College of Theology.Mary Andrews College was established in 1891 as a training institution for deaconesses. It is Anglican in ethos but independent of the Sydney Diocese. The College was renamed in 1997 in honour of Deaconess Mary Andrews.

Cloud Arch is a proposed public artwork by Junya Ishigami for George Street, Sydney. The sculpture is proposed to be a ribbon of twisted, white stainless steel, representing the shape of a cloud, originally designed to be 58 metres (190 ft) tall and with a span of 53 metres (174 ft). It is intended to "frame" the Sydney Town Hall, and be visible from all approach directions as part of the pedestrianisation of the street. A light rail line running up George Street is under construction and would run through the arch. The feet of Cloud Arch will be placed on diagonally opposite corners of one of Sydney's busiest intersections, George and Park Street; the sculpture will stand among the Town Hall, the Queen Victoria Building, and The Galeries Victoria. Originally it was to be installed in 2019 but due to the increased costs ($22m, over the initial estimate of $9m) and disputes about site access during the construction of the light rail, planning for the project was postponed until 2020.

The Statue of Queen Victoria, currently in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, was made by John Hughes in 1908 and was originally located in Dublin. Made of bronze, it is situated on the corner of Druitt and George Street in front of the Queen Victoria Building. It was the last royal statue to have been erected in Ireland.

Hong Kong House, also known since 1995 as the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney, is a landmark heritage building and former hotel in the Sydney central business district, City of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Built in 1891 to a design by Ambrose Thornley, it is located on 80 Druitt Street, at the corner with York Street, and is adjacent to other prominent heritage landmarks, the Sydney Town Hall and the Queen Victoria Building. Formerly known as Gresham Hotel, the property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.Hong Kong House houses the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the office of the Hong Kong Tourism Board in Australasia, Invest Hong Kong and the office of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

The Galeries is a shopping centre in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was formerly known as The Galeries Victoria until renamed in early 2013. It is located in the heart of the Sydney central business district, bounded by George, Pitt and Park Streets. The shopping centre sits below the Citigroup Centre office tower and beside the Sydney Hilton Hotel. The site on which The Galeries now stands was originally the Murdochs department store, later the flagship Waltons department store. The Waltons store was demolished in 1983, and the site sat vacant for years after the owner Alan Bond suffered major losses from the investment in Waltons. The new development, incorporating the high-rise Citigroup Centre and the Galeries Victoria as a podium, was completed in 2000. The Galeries is a four level shopping centre, that features a series of covered laneways running throughout with bridges between buildings and a central piazza area. The centre also incorporates the historic Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts, which is now the Arthouse Hotel. The centre includes direct access to Town Hall railway station via underground passageways at the southern end, adjacent to a passageway that leads to the Queen Victoria Building. A station on the Sydney Monorail was also incorporated into the centre until the monorail closed in 2013. The Citigroup Centre and combined Galeries was designed by Crone Partners Architecture Studios.
