Babel, Carmarthenshire

Mynydd Bach Trecastell is a hill on the border between the counties of Carmarthenshire and Powys in southwest Wales. It lies within the Black Mountain range of the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr Geopark. Its summit is plateau-like and reaches a height of 412m at OS grid ref SN 827312 at Y Pigwn. The name signifies the 'little hill of castle town'.

Crychan Forest Tracks is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Carmarthen & Dinefwr, Wales. It was chosen as a special stage in the British Rally from 2006 to 2008.

Trefawr Track, a forestry road north of Cwm-coed-Aeron Farm, Llandovery, Wales, is the location of the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) which marks the boundary between the Rhuddanian and Aeronian stages of the Silurian period on the geologic time scale. The GSSP was ratified in 1984. The boundary is defined as the first appearance of the graptolite Monograptus austerus sequens (the base of the Monograptus triangulatus biozone). The section is primarily mudstone, which yields an abundance of shelly faunas. The graptolite Diplograptus elongatus occurs immediately below the boundary.

Waun-Ddu is a part of the Mynydd Bach that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Carmarthen & Dinefwr, Wales.

The Llandovery transmitting station is a telecommunications facility located to the north of Llandovery and east of Cynghordy, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It has a self-supporting 40 m lattice mast erected on land that is itself about 312 m above sea level. The site was originally built by the IBA, entering service in 1968 transmitting the now-defunct 405-line VHF television system. As well as providing an ITV service to the town of Llandovery some 8 km to the south west the site also transmitted to the north east, primarily to provide a link-signal for the ITV transmitter at Llandrindod Wells. The north easterly transmission also provided the ITV service to the villages of Llanwrtyd Wells and Llangammarch Wells. When UHF 625-line colour TV came to mid Wales in the 1970s the Llandovery locality was covered by the main transmitter at Carmel and so this site was not needed as a repeater. The villages of Llanwrtyd Wells and Llangammarch Wells were subsequently covered by a UHF relay station at Llanwrtyd Wells which came into service in the early 1980s. The nearest UHF relay to the Llandovery site is at Cilycwm 5.4 km to the west. 405-line television from Llandovery was shut down in January 1985.

The Usk Reservoir (Welsh: Cronfa Wysg) is located in the upper Usk Valley, at 1,006 feet (307 m) above sea level, in the western part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. The county boundary between Carmarthenshire and Powys runs through the reservoir which lies about six miles to the north of the Black Mountain escarpment. It is an important landmark for walkers on the mountain range.

Llanfair-y-bryn is a community and Church in Wales parish in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Covering an area of some 95 km², it lies along and to the northwest and southeast of the A483 Swansea to Chester road immediately north of the town of Llandovery. The population of the community at the 2011 census was 624. The term also referred to a church located outside the parish.

Cynghordy () is a village in the rural community of Llanfair-ar-y-bryn in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It lies on the A483 road northeast of the town of Llandovery, and is served by Cynghordy railway station on the Heart of Wales Line.

Mynydd Myddfai is a hill 4.5 miles southeast of Llandovery in the county of Carmarthenshire, southwest Wales. It lies within the Brecon Beacons National Park and Fforest Fawr Geopark. The hill is in the form of a broad ridge aligned southwest to northeast with three or four distinct tops separated by cols. The northwest side drops steeply away towards the village of Myddfai whilst the other side is a more shallow slope down towards Glasfynydd Forest which encircles Usk Reservoir. The plateau surface of the hill rises to a height of 440m at OS grid ref SN 806297 where a trig point has been erected.

Cwmwysg (Welsh for "Usk valley") is a small rural village southwest of Trecastle in the valley of the Usk river, Powys, Wales. It includes the Saron Independent Chapel, originally built in 1822 and rebuilt in 1856. The humpback stone river bridge over the Usk is Grade II listed. The Welsh painter Aneurin Jones (1930–2017) was born in Cwmwysg.

Abercrychan is a small village in the north-east of Carmarthenshire. It is located on the A483, 4 miles to the north of the town of Llandovery. The village is named after the River Crychan, a small stream that flows into the River Brân, near the village. Crychan Forest is on the slopes to the east of Abercrychan.

Cynghordy railway station () serves the rural community of Cynghordy near Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, Wales. The station is on the Heart of Wales Line 46+3⁄4 miles (75 km) north east of Swansea and is located at street level at the end of a gravel track off a lane that is just off the main A483 road. After departing this station heading northbound, the train crosses the Cynghordy Viaduct where panoramic views of the surrounding countryside can be seen. The grade II* listed 18-arch viaduct carries the route across the Afon Bran valley on a gentle curve - it is 102 feet (31 m) high and 850 feet (260 m) long and was built from sandstone and brick between 1867 and 1868. The viaduct is visible, using good binoculars, from the highest Black Mountain ridges.
