Wilson's Mills is a town in Johnston County, North Carolina, United States. In 2010, the population was 2,277, up from 1,291 in 2000. As of 2018, the estimated population was 2,689.

WKJO (102.3 MHz) is a classic hits formatted radio station licensed to Smithfield, North Carolina. The station is owned by Curtis Media Group, and primarily simulcasts the "KIX 102, Carolina's Greatest Hits" programming of hit music from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s that originates from WKIX-FM (102.9) in Raleigh. WKJO's transmitter tower is northwest of Smithfield in rural Clayton, North Carolina.

Everitt P. Stevens House is a historic plantation house located at Selma, Johnston County, North Carolina. It was built about 1850, and is a two-story, three-bay, vernacular Greek Revival style frame farmhouse. It has a single exterior brick end chimney and a rear shed addition added about 1940 and extended across the entire rear elevation about 1970. Also on the property are the contributing large barn and square tobacco barn, both built about 1900. After the Confederate Army defeat at the Battle of Bentonville (March 19–21, 1865) the army re-assembled around the grounds of the house where the last Grand Review of the army was held on April 6, 1865. In attendance at the review were Generals William J. Hardee, Joseph E. Johnston, and Governor Zebulon Baird Vance.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Powhatan is an unincorporated community in Johnston County, North Carolina, United States, centered on the intersection of Powhatan Road and U.S. Route 70 Business, equidistant from the towns of Clayton and Wilson's Mills. It lies at an elevation of 302 feet (92 m).The community is home to a large athletics complex on Powhatan Road, as well as several large chemical/pharmaceutical plants, including the Grifols plant on US 70 Business, and Novo Nordisk on Powhatan Road. Just east of the community is the eastern terminus of the Clayton Bypass (mainline US 70).

Located in the district is the separately listed Nowell-Mayerburg-Oliver House and William E. Smith House. Other notable buildings include the Edgerton Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church (1910, 1928, 1950), Abdalla House (c. 1940), Dr. Joshua W. Vick House (c. 1880, home of one of the developers of Vick's Vapor Rub), Stella and William H. Etheridge House (also known as "Turnwood," 1897), Dr. R. Marvin Blackmon House, Samuel P. Wood House (1935), Janie and C. E. Kornegay House (1923), Selma Presbyterian Church (c. 1912, 1942), St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church/Vernon Wiggs House (c. 1900, 1946), and Pepsi Bottling Company (c. 1935).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Notable buildings include the Bank of Selma/American Telephone and Telegraph Exchange Building (1912; 1985), Economy Furniture (c. 1920), John A. Mitchener Building (1925), The Rudy Theater (c. 1940; c. 1970), The Hardware Store (c. 1910), Bank of Selma (c. 1910), Selma Baptist Church (1908; 1948), and Selma Manufacturing Company/Selma Furniture Store and Opera House (1902).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Selma Union Depot, also known as Selma Union Station and Selma–Smithfield, is a train station and museum in Selma, North Carolina, and near the town of Smithfield. Built in 1924, it is currently served by two Amtrak passenger trains, the Palmetto and the Carolinian. It is located at 500 East Railroad Street in the heart of downtown Selma. The Silver Meteor and the Silver Star have their northern split here, but do not stop in Selma.

It includes notable examples of Mission Revival style architecture and buildings dating from about 1890 to 1957. It includes commercial, residential, ecclesiastical, and educational structures. Notable buildings include the W.E. Stanley Store (c. 1890, 1947), Blake Adams Store (1904), Four Oaks Bank Building, Lassiter Building (c. 1925), W. D. Allen Building (1926), Four Oaks Drugstore (1937), Sinclair Gas Station (c. 1930s).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Flowers is an unincorporated community in Johnston County, North Carolina, United States, west of Jordan, east of Clayton, and southeast of Archer Lodge. It lies at an elevation of 289 feet (88 m).It is named for famed bootlegger and land owner Percy Flowers, who owned much of the property in the area. Prior to Flowers, the land was part of the Pineville plantation owned by Josiah Ogden Watson, a slaveholding physician who served in the War of 1812 and under Andrew Jackson at the defeat of Creek warriors at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. After Watson's death, ownership of the plantation and its enslaved inhabitants passed to his nephew J. W. B. Watson, a state senator who voted in favor of the state's secession from the Union.While the borders of the community are not well defined, the intersection of Buffalo Road and North Carolina Highway 42, known as "Flowers Crossroads", is generally considered the center of the community. Some of the former landowners and enslaved people held on the old plantation are buried in a small cemetery just north of the crossroads. Flowers Plantation is a large housing development in the unincorporated community, that was voted 2013 and 2014 NC Community of the Year by the North Carolina Home Builders Association. The Flowers General Store is the main landmark at the center of the community.

Cleveland is an unincorporated community in suburban northwestern Johnston County, North Carolina, United States. It lies at an elevation of 243 feet (74 m). The settlement is also known as Cleveland Crossings, Cleveland Community, Cleveland School or 40/42, so named for the intersection of I-40 and NC 42 at the northeastern edge of the community, which serves as the primary commercial hub of the area. NC 50 skirts the western edge of the community. The community's population is concentrated along Cleveland Road (also known as Cleveland School Road) in Johnston County. While officially unincorporated, postal addresses for the community generally lie in Garner (for the northern parts of the community), Clayton (in the eastern and central parts of the community) and Benson (for the southern part of the community). The community is named for the Cleveland School, a former K-12 school lying on Cleveland Road, the grounds of which currently house a community center, senior adult housing, a gymnasium and numerous athletic fields managed by the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association (GCAA), and a branch of the Johnston Community College. Nearby unincorporated communities include McGee's Crossroads to the south along NC 50 and Willow Spring to the west along NC 42. There have been several efforts to incorporate the rapidly growing community, though the issue was tabled by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1999. Since there is already a town known as Cleveland elsewhere in the state, the name of the proposed incorporated town has been a minor point of contention. Thousands of new homes have been built in the community, making it one of the faster-growing areas in Johnston County. Its location at a major interchange along Interstate 40 has made it a burgeoning business center.

Cleveland High School or CvHS is located in unincorporated Johnston County, North Carolina. It lies within the Cleveland community, with a postal address of Clayton. It was established during the 2010–2011 school year. It is a public school which is part of Johnston County Schools. Cleveland High School was originally part of Cleveland School, which was founded in 1925 as an all-grade school. However, in 1969, due to the growth of student population in Johnston County, the high school grade students were moved to high schools throughout the county, including South Johnston High School. To account for the continued growth in Johnston County, two new schools, Cleveland High School and Corinth Holders High School, opened in 2010.

Pine Level, chartered 1872, is a town in Johnston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,700 at the 2010 census, up from 1,313 in 2000. Pine Level is located 35 miles (56 km) southeast of Raleigh, the state capital.
