Nelson Bay is a significant township of the Port Stephens local government area in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located on a bay of the same name on the southern shore of Port Stephens about 60 kilometres (37 mi) by road north-east of Newcastle, its nearest rail link. At the 2021 census, Nelson Bay had a population of 6,141. It is a major tourism centre, particularly for dolphin and whale watching, surfing, diving, fishing and other recreational aquatic activities. The eastern boundaries of Nelson Bay lie within the Tomaree National Park while the southeastern section is almost entirely within the park. Nelson Head Light, an unusual lighthouse built in 1875, is positioned on the northeast corner.

Shoal Bay is the most eastern suburb of the Port Stephens local government area in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the southern shore of Port Stephens, adjacent to the bay of the same name at the entrance to the port. It includes part of Tomaree National Park within its boundaries and, like other suburbs around Port Stephens, is a popular tourist destination, especially in summer months. At the 2021 census the town of Shoal Bay had a population of 1,815 but the population increases significantly during tourist season.

Bay FM 88.0 is a narrowcast FM radio station serving the Tomaree and Tilligerry Peninsulas of Port Stephens in New South Wales, Australia. The station's licence was granted on 29 April 1998 and it transmits from Gan Gan Hill in Nelson Bay. Originally broadcasting on 98.3 MHz, the station's frequency was changed to 99.3 MHz on 8 August 2003. The frequency was changed again on 26 February 2015 to 88.0 MHz.

Port Stephens, an open youthful tide-dominated drowned-valley estuary, is a large natural harbour of approximately 134 square kilometres (52 sq mi) located in the Hunter and Mid North Coast regions of New South Wales, Australia.Port Stephens lies within the Port Stephens–Great Lakes Marine Park and is situated about 160 kilometres (99 mi) north-east of Sydney. Tomaree is a national park located in New South Wales, Australia, 145–155 km (90–96 mi) northeast of Sydney in the Port Stephens local government area. It is located on the shores of the Tasman Sea, extending north from Fishermans Bay to Shoal Bay passing through Boat Harbour, One Mile, Nelson Bay and Fingal Bay. Most entry points to the park are indicated by signs installed by the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service which usually indicate any activities that may be prohibited within park boundaries. It is a great place for a walk on the beach and whale watching, and you can also come across koalas dozing in the trees.Two prominent locations in the park are Point Stephens Light, a lighthouse built in 1862 and the Tomaree Head Fortifications, World War II gun emplacements on Tomaree Head which were built in 1941, the location of the No. 20 Radar Station RAAF.This is the traditional land of the Aboriginal people of Worimi, and provides important resources such as food, medicine and shelter.

Corlette is a suburb of the Port Stephens local government area in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located just west of Nelson Bay on the shores of Port Stephens. It was named after Captain James Corlette who skippered the 63 tonnes (62 long tons) cutter Lambton which was the first privately owned local vessel. Corlette first used it to ship timber and wool out of Port Stephens in 1816. While property values throughout the suburb average around A$1,100,000 in the most affluent areas on the shores of Salamander Bay individual sale prices of $3.7 million have been realised. It has many local tourism attractions including Bagnalls Beach Reserve, Port Stephens Shell Museum, Blue Water Sailing and Nude Kayaks.

Tomaree High School is a government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located in Salamander Bay, a suburb of the Port Stephens Council local government area in New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1988, the school enrolled approximately 1,110 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom eight percent identified as Indigenous Australians and eight percent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the NSW Department of Education; the principal is Paul Baxter.

Tea Gardens is a locality in the Mid-Coast Council local government area, in Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia.At the 2016 census Tea Gardens had a population of 2,884, with most of the population resident in the town of Tea Gardens at the southern end of the locality.

PS Brighton was a ferry used on the Sydney to Manly run. The biggest Manly ferry at the time and the largest paddle steamer to operate on Sydney Harbour, she was well-appointed and popular with passengers.
