Penn Valley skatepark

The BMA Tower is a building in Kansas City, Missouri. Also known as One Park Place, it was built as a 19-story Modern style office building. Located on a prominent height 3 miles (4.8 km) south of downtown Kansas City, the 280 feet (85 m) building is uniquely visible. The building was planned for the Business Men's Assurance Company of America, an insurance company, on the site of the former St. Joseph's Orphanage. The building was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill with steel-frame construction and clad in a contrasting grid of deeply inset black glass and white marble. It was the first high-rise structure in Kansas City since the building of City Hall in 1936, and opened in 1963.Designed by SOM project manager Bruce Graham, who later was lead architect for the John Hancock Center and the Willis Tower, the BMA tower is completely devoid of ornament, using only the contrast between the white cladding on the columns and beams with the black glazing as expression. In design it is closely related to the First City National Bank Building in Houston, designed by Gordon Bunshaft, another SOM partner. Even more than the upper-floor windows, the ground floor is deeply inset, with glass surrounding just the central building core to function as a lobby. The structure encloses 384,000 square feet (35,700 m2).The building's original marble cladding was replaced after several panels fell from the building in 1985 and 1986. The problem was traced to the thinness of the panels (1.25 inches (3.2 cm) and the method of anchorage to the frame. As a result of extensive investigation, the panels were replaced with neoparium, a glass product that appeared indistinguishable from marble at more than 100 feet (30 m). This failure mode was not uncommon in buildings of this era that employed thin marble cladding. Several buildings, most notably the Aon Center in Chicago were re-clad with materials other than marble. The BMA Building won an Architectural Award of Excellence from the American Institute of Steel Construction and a First Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects.The building was sold by the BMA in 2002 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places the same year. Renamed One Park Place, it was extensively renovated, stripped of asbestos and converted to residential condominiums. Renovation was completed in 2007.

The Scout is a famous statue by Cyrus E. Dallin in Kansas City, Missouri. It is more than 10 feet (3.0 m) tall, and depicts a Sioux Indian on horseback surveying the landscape. The Scout was conceived by Dallin in 1910, and exhibited at the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, where it won a gold medal. On its way back east, the statue was installed on a temporary basis in Penn Valley Park. The statue proved so popular that US$15,000 (equivalent to about $402,000 in 2021) in nickels and dimes was raised to purchase it through a campaign called "The Kids of Kansas City". The statue was dedicated in 1922 as a permanent memorial to local Indian tribes. It is located east of Southwest Trafficway in Penn Valley Park, which is south of downtown Kansas City. Several area features have been named after the iconic statue, such as Kansas City Scout, which is the Kansas City metropolitan area's electronic traffic alert system. The statue inspired the name of the National Hockey League's Kansas City Scouts and was featured on the team's logo. A half-size replica was given by Kansas City to its sister-city, Seville, Spain in 1992.

WDAF-TV (channel 4) is a television station in Kansas City, Missouri, United States, affiliated with the Fox network. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group, and maintains studios and transmitter facilities on Summit Street in the Signal Hill section of Kansas City, Missouri. WDAF-TV also serves as an alternate Fox affiliate for the St. Joseph market (which borders the Kansas City market to the north), as the station's transmitter produces a city-grade signal that reaches St. Joseph proper and rural areas in the market's central and southern counties. WDAF previously served as the default NBC station for St. Joseph until it disaffiliated from the network in September 1994 (presently, NBC programming in St. Joseph is provided by KNPG-LD), and as the market's default Fox affiliate from that point on until KNPN-LD (channel 26) signed on as an in-market affiliate on June 2, 2012.

Penn Valley Park is an urban park overlooking the Downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The 176-acre (0.71 km2) park was developed in 1904 on land through which the Santa Fe Trail had passed. It contains several famous landmarks: The Scout statue and the United States' official National World War I Museum and Memorial with its Liberty Memorial. The grounds also feature such commemorative statues as the Pioneer Mother Memorial and The Hiker.The park has a large lake, a fitness trail, tennis courts and ball fields and is a popular spot for concerts and festivals during the summer months. Also features Kansas City's first off-leash dog park and is the host park to both the Penn Valley skatepark located in the southwestern corner of the park and the Just Off Broadway Theatre.The Federal Reserve's new regional headquarters building is located just east of the park.

Seven Pillars Institute for Global Finance and Ethics (SPI) is a not-for-profit think tank based in Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 2010 by Kara Tan Bhala, the institute is authorized under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code and is a nonsectarian and nonpartisan research and educational organization. A large part of the institute's work is to provide education on ethics and its application in every area of finance.

Cristo Rey Kansas City High School is a Roman Catholic high school founded by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth in 2006 as a part of the Cristo Rey Network of schools. It is located in Kansas City, Missouri, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is located in Kansas City, Missouri and covers the 10th District of the Federal Reserve, which includes Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and portions of western Missouri and northern New Mexico. It is second only to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco in size of geographic area served. Missouri is the only state with two main Federal Reserve Banks; the other is located in St. Louis. Federal Reserve Notes issued by the bank are identified by "J" on the face of one and two dollar bills and the J10 on the face of other currency.

1 Memorial Drive is the headquarters complex of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. The 618,000 square foot complex consisting of a 14-story tower and two-story base containing its cash processing and operations facilities was designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners was dedicated June 11, 2008, and replaced its headquarters at 925 Grand. Henry N. Cobb was the lead architect.The complex is located in Penn Valley Park opposite the Liberty Memorial on the site that was the former St. Mary's Hospital where Jo Zach Miller, Jr., president of the bank who oversaw the construction of 925 Grand, had spent his last days. It was the first Federal Reserve building built after the September 11 attacks prompted increased security at federal buildings. The complex (which moved from Downtown Kansas City) is in a park setting and its 15.7 acre property was landscaped by Laurie Olin of Olin Associates.

The Pla-Mor Ballroom was a multi-purpose event center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The venue was primarily a music hall used most often for jazz performances but also contained a bowling alley, swimming pool, ballroom, billiard hall and adjacent ice rink.

The Knickerbocker Apartments were located at 501-535 Knickerbocker Place in the Valentine Neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. The Late 19th and 20th Century Revival style building was designed by Leon Grant Middaugh and J.A. Rose, and was built in 1909. It is significant for its architecture, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It was demolished in 2020. The Historic Kansas City Foundation listed the apartments on their 2014 Most Endangered list of buildings in the Kansas City area. A fire in May 2020 created further damage to the vacant buildings. They were owned by the Kansas City Life Insurance Company and were demolished in July-August 2020. An identical building on the north side of the street was razed in 1982 for a Kansas City Life Insurance Company expansion project.

Sacred Heart Church, School and Rectory was a historic site at 2540–2544 Madison Avenue and 910 West 26th Street in Kansas City, Missouri. The church was built in 1896 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Rectory and School building were demolished in 2010 but the original church building and its parish hall remain. The congregation is now known as Sacred Heart Guadalupe due to its merger with Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in 1991
