Peconic, New York

Cutchogue ( KUTCH-og) is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the North Fork of Long Island's East End. The population was 3,349 at the 2010 census.The Cutchogue CDP roughly represents the area of the Cutchogue hamlet in the town of Southold.

Peconic was a station stop along the Greenport Branch of the Long Island Rail Road in Peconic, New York. The station was originally built as Hermitage station on May 1, 1848 (although some sources claim it dates back to 1844) but was renamed Peconic on the June 1876 timetable. In August 1876 a second Peconic Station replaced the former one, which was built on the south side of the tracks and on the west side of Peconic Lane. This building also served as the post office. That station was razed in April 1942 and replaced with a shelter along the platform. The post office moved to the grocery store next door where it remains to this day. When Cutchogue station was closed in June 1962, the two nearest replacements were Mattituck station, which still exists today, and Peconic station, which ceased service in 1970.

Goldsmith's Inlet is a tidal inlet located in the Town of Southold on the North Fork of Long Island, New York in the United States. The Peconic or Goldsmith Inlet Grist Mill had its beginnings in 1836, when plans were first made for its construction.

Joshua Wells House, also known as Wells-Fleet-Goldsmith-Kendrick House and 1680 House, is a historic home located at Cutchogue in Suffolk County, New York. It is a 1+1⁄2-story, timber-framed residence constructed about 1680 and extensively remodeled in 1815. The house has been moved twice and now sits on a brick foundation constructed during its last move in 1857.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Custer Observatory is an astronomical observatory located in Southold, New York. It is owned and operated by the Custer Institute. Facing Peconic Bay and Shelter Island, Custer's location is host to some of the darkest skies on Long Island as a result of the comparatively lower levels of light pollution in the area.

Town Doctors' House and Site is a historic home located at Southold in Suffolk County, New York. The house was built about 1720, and expanded in about 1880, 1930, and 2002–2003. The house is a 2+1⁄2-story, northern-Colonial–style building with a cross-gabled roof and central chimney. The site includes Bilberry Swamp, where the earliest Euro-American occupation occurred around 1664. There is evidence on the site of pre-17th-century occupation by Native Americans.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Southold Historic District is a national historic district located at the hamlet of Southold in Suffolk County, New York. The district has 86 contributing buildings, one contributing site, and two contributing objects. The majority are residential buildings built either with a heavy timber frame or balloon frame construction and range in date from about 1656 to about 1938. The district also includes three prominent religious facilities and educational facilities.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Holland Torpedo Boat Station is where the first United States Navy submarines were stationed for trials and training of submarine crews from 1899 to 1905. Holland Torpedo Boat Station was located in the hamlet of New Suffolk, New York. New Suffolk claims to be the first submarine base in the United States. The USS Holland was based at New Suffolk's Holland Torpedo Boat Station from 1899 to 1905. Seven submarines built by the Holland Torpedo Boat Company – Electric Boat Company were stationed at New Suffolk. Holland Torpedo Boat Station on Cutchogue Harbor was not designated a submarine base by the US Navy. The US Navy gave that title to Naval Submarine Base New London as the first submarine base. Naval Submarine Base New London was commissioned by the US Navy in 1916 as a dedicated submarine base.

New Suffolk is a census-designated place (CDP) that roughly corresponds to the hamlet by the same name in the Town of Southold in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The CDP's population was 403 as of the 2020 census.

New Suffolk School is a historic school building located at New Suffolk in Suffolk County, New York. It was built in 1907 and is a one-story, hip-roofed structure on a raised brick basement, with an engaged two-story central tower. Originally a two-room schoolhouse, it was expanded to three rooms in 1923. It features compound massing, complex roof form and eyebrow windows of the Queen Anne and Shingle styles and the Tuscan porch columns and oval windows common to the Colonial Revival style.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
