Covert, New York

Covert is a hamlet in the Town of Covert, Seneca County, New York, United States. It is located four miles (6 km) southeast of the Village of Interlaken and three miles (5 km) northwest of the Village of Trumansburg, at an elevation of 906 feet (276 m). The primary cross roads where the hamlet is located are N.Y. Route 96, West Covert Road, East Covert Road, Schier Road (CR 144A) and Lower Covert Road. The Covert Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The district is primarily residential and structures represent a variety of functions and styles spanning the period from 1810 to 1920. The earliest structure was built as a tavern and it also includes the Town Hall, First Baptist Church (and cemetery), a modest schoolhouse, and Grange Meeting Hall.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Second Baptist Society of Ulysses, now known as Trumansburg Conservatory for the Arts, is a historic Baptist church located at Trumansburg in Tompkins County, New York. The building has a rectangular footprint comprising a front gable main block, built between 1849 and 1851, with a later frame addition with a hipped roof completed about 1902. It measures 54.5 feet wide by 85 feet deep, with an additional 10 feet for the porch, or verandah. The porch is supported by four fluted Doric order columns in the Greek Revival style. The church was sold to the Trumansburg Conservatory for the Arts in 1982.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses is a historic Presbyterian church located at Trumansburg in Tompkins County, New York. It is an imposing temple front Greek Revival style structure built in 1849–1850. The church is a 61 feet by 57 feet, gable roofed brick structure that is dominated by a monumental, pedimented portico supported by five massive, fluted Doric order columns. A tripartite bell tower crowns the roof ridge.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Tremans spelled their surname several different ways; "Truman," however, was not one of them. The village's application for a post office established the present spelling. Ulysses Philomathic Library is a public library in the village of Trumansburg, New York which is located within the town of Ulysses. The town existed at the time the library was founded as a private association in 1811 but the village was not incorporated until 1872. Philomathic means “love of learning”. The library serves the town of 4,775 residents according to the 2000 census. Work began on the current Greek Revival and brick library building in June 2000. The library is a member of the Finger Lakes Library System.

Hermon Camp House is a historic home located at Trumansburg in Tompkins County, New York. It was built in 1845-1847 and consists of a two-story central block flanked by two slightly lower wings in the Greek Revival style. The main block is dominated by a full-height portico with six fluted Doric order columns supporting full entablature and parapet. Attached to the west wing of the main block is a carriage house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.The house is privately owned and used as a residence, and so is not open to the public. The owners occasionally open it for local charity and political events.
