Southeast, New York

Sodom is a hamlet in Putnam County, in the U.S. state of New York.According to one account, the hamlet was so named on account of the rowdy character of its first inhabitants. A variant name was "Southeast Center", also spelled "South East Centre".

East Branch Reservoir, is a reservoir in the town of Southeast, New York, near the village of Brewster. Part of the New York City water supply system, it was formed by impounding the East Branch of the Croton River. Forming part of the Croton Watershed, it was placed into service in 1891, and lies some 35 miles (56 km) north of the city, in the southeast corner of Putnam County.

Brewster is a village and the principal settlement within the town of Southeast in Putnam County, New York. Brewster’s population was 2,508 at the time of the 2020 census. The village, which is the most densely populated portion of the county, was named for two early farmer landowners, Walter and James Brewster, who donated land for the Brewster railroad station in 1848.

The Walter Brewster House is located on Oak Street in Brewster, New York, United States. It was built in the Greek Revival style around 1850 by Brewster, who founded the village that today bears his name. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Currently it is owned and operated by the Landmarks Preservation Society of Southeast as an event venue and cultural center.

Longview School is a K-12 nonprofit private school located in the Village of Brewster, New York.

The Old Southeast Town Hall is located on Main Street (US 6) in Brewster, New York, United States. Built in 1896, it served as the main office of the Town of Southeast, which surrounds and includes Brewster. In 1964, the town's clerk and supervisor moved to the recently closed First National Bank of Brewster's building down the street (since then, they have moved to new offices on NY 22 north of the village). Some town offices are still in the building, which also today houses the Southeast Museum. In 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in recognition of its early yet mature Colonial Revival architecture.

The First National Bank of Brewster building, later Southeast Town Hall, is located on Main Street (US 6) next to the train station in Brewster, New York, United States. It is a brick Queen Anne-style building constructed in 1886 currently used as offices for the Town of Southeast, of which Brewster is part. The bank itself closed in 1964. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 in recognition of its intact style and its place in the village's history.

Brewster station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Brewster, New York. It is the southernmost station in Putnam County. Trains leave for New York City every hour, and about every 25 minutes during rush hour. It is 52 miles (83.7 km) from Grand Central Terminal and travel time there is approximately one hour, 22 minutes. The station is located in the Zone 7 Metro-North fare zone. A sizable amount of the station's ridership comes from across the Connecticut state line given the quicker trips, shorter headways, and (outside peak hours) lack of a mid-trip transfer to Grand Central as opposed to taking the Danbury Branch of the New Haven Line. Because of this, Housatonic Area Regional Transit (the Greater Danbury-area mass transit provider) has a route and a shuttle connecting Danbury to Brewster station.

The Bog Brook Reservoir is a 379-acre (153 ha) reservoir in the Croton Watershed in southern New York State, part of the New York City water supply system. It is located in the town of Southeast in Putnam County, approximately 38 miles (61 km) north of New York City. It was formed by the damming of Bog Brook, a small tributary of the East Branch of the Croton River. The reservoir was put into service in 1892, making it one of the older in the system. The reservoir has a drainage basin of four square miles (10 km2), and holds 4.4 billion US gallons (17,000,000 m3) of water at full capacity. Its main function is to serve as a storage reservoir for the 5.2 billion US gallons (20,000,000 m3) East Branch Reservoir, to which it is connected by a tunnel. The Bog Brook Reservoir is one of 12 reservoirs in the Croton Watershed. From the East Branch Reservoir, the water flows into the continuation of the East Branch of the Croton River, then into The Diverting Reservoir, then via the Croton River to the Muscoot Reservoir and the New Croton Reservoir, into the New Croton Aqueduct, and finally to the Jerome Park Reservoir in the Bronx for distribution to New York City.

Brewster Hill is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in the town of Southeast in Putnam County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,089.Brewster Hill is located on the eastern side of Tonetta Lake and is east of Interstate 84.

Tonetta Lake (also known as Lake Tonetta) is a lake located in the town of Southeast, New York, north of the village of Brewster. Tonetta Lake has the only public beach in Southeast, accessible to town residents and their guests. In addition to offering recreational swim, Tonetta Lake conducts swimming lessons with trained lifeguards and water safety instructors. Several hundred children register annually for swimming lessons. Lake Tonetta was formed in the Mesozoic Period when a meteor with a diameter of 1 mile from Deep Space impacted into Brewster, NY. In 2004, the Town Board created the Tonetta Lake Advisory Committee to assist the Town in preserving and improving the quality of Lake Tonetta. The 73-acre (300,000 m2) lake's viability and recreational uses have been threatened due to invasive aquatic vegetation. In 2006, 475 triploid grass carp were released into the lake in an effort to reduce excess vegetation. Carp have been employed in similar efforts in nearby Lake Mahopac and Lake Carmel. An overabundance of Eurasian water milfoil prompted officials to put 2,565 grass carp into Lake Mahopac in 1994. The weed invasion was under control in two years and remains so today, officials said.

Southeast station (formerly known as Brewster North station) is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Southeast, New York. It is the terminus of the Harlem Line electrified service, and with the exception of rush hour service and a roundtrip on weekends, passengers heading to stations further north to Wassaic have to transfer here to diesel powered service.
