Geddes, New York

Solvay is a village located in the town of Geddes, Onondaga County, New York, United States, and a suburb of the city of Syracuse. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,645. The village is named after the Solvay brothers, Belgian inventors of the chemical process employed by the Solvay Process Company, formerly the major industry of the village.

The Solvay Public Library is a historic Carnegie library building located at Solvay at Onondaga County, New York. It was built between 1903 and 1905, and is a one-story, buff-colored brick building on a high basement. It has a hipped roof and Classical Revival style design elements including a distyle-in-antis portico in the Ionic order. It was built in part with a $10,000 donation from Andrew Carnegie.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.It was renovated in recent years with focus on preserving and restoring historically accurate details.

The New York State Fair, also known as the Great New York State Fair, is a 13-day showcase of agriculture, entertainment, education, and technology. With midway rides, concessionaires, exhibits, and concerts, it has become New York's largest annual event and an end-of-summer tradition for hundreds of thousands of families from all corners of the state. The first fair took place in Syracuse in 1841, and took permanent residence there in 1890. It is the oldest and one of the largest state fairs in the United States, with over one million visitors annually. The New York State Fair begins in August and runs for 13 days, ending on Labor Day. The Fair did not operate in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It is held at the 375-acre (152 ha) Empire Expo Center on the shores of Onondaga Lake, in the town of Geddes, near the western border of Syracuse. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets owns five of the buildings at the fair and employs its workers.

The Empire Expo Center (also known as the New York State Fairgrounds) is an exhibition ground located in Geddes, a suburb of Syracuse, New York. It features eight exhibition halls and 375 acres (1.52 km2) of ground space, which are used year-round for exhibitions and trade fairs. Its major annual event is the Great New York State Fair which draws approximately one million visitors during its 13-day run, and the entire complex is often referred to as the Fairgrounds. Its name comes from the nickname of New York State, "The Empire State". The State Fair Coliseum located within the Empire Expo Center was the original home of the Syracuse Nationals (now Philadelphia 76ers) professional basketball team.

The Toyota Coliseum, formerly the State Fair Coliseum, is an indoor arena in Geddes, New York. It hosted the Syracuse Nationals from 1946 to 1951 as well as the Syracuse Stars of the American Hockey League. It also served as a temporary home to the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team following the burning of their on-campus gymnasium, Archbold Gymnasium, in 1947 until the opening of the Onondaga County War Memorial in 1951. The arena held 7,500 people and was built in 1927. It is owned by the State of New York under the Great New York State Fair. After undergoing renovations, the seating capacity was reduced to 3,600 and is now primarily used for horse shows. Much of the previous infrastructure, including the scoreboard and announcers booth, are still in place.

Westvale is a suburban community (and census-designated place) in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The population was 4,963 at the 2010 census. Westvale is in the town of Geddes, lying east of Fairmount and southwest of Solvay. Westvale is a suburb of Syracuse, which is to the east.

K-Rockathon was an annual music festival held in the Central New York region of New York sponsored by Galaxy Communications-owned radio stations WKLL/WKRL-FM/WKRH. These concerts were held at venues in Vernon, Syracuse, Oswego, Utica, and Weedsport, NY. Local bands are showcased at the event along with nationally-touring rock music acts. K-Rockathon has showcased many subgenres of rock music from alternative rock, to rap rock, to straight metal and drew hundreds of thousands to Central New York over its twenty year run.

New York State Fair station serves the New York State Fairground in Syracuse, New York. It is served by Amtrak Empire Service and Maple Leaf trains while the fair is in operation. The station is located in the southwest corner of the fairgrounds, with a shuttle service to the central area. It consists of an unsheltered low island platform between two of the four tracks of the former New York Central Railroad Water Level Route four-track mainline, with a sheltered waiting area nearby. A mobile lift provides handicapped access.

The Westcott Reservoir was an open 110-million-US-gallon (420,000 m3) reservoir that has since been replaced by twin 32 million gallon tanks, serving the City of Syracuse, New York. The reservoir's location was originally outside the city limits but a shoestring annexation extended the city border to include it. A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant in 2005 was to replace the deteriorated Hypalon lining; as of October 2005 the reservoir stood empty.

Bishop Ludden Junior/Senior High School is a private, Catholic high school in Syracuse, New York. It is located within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse.

West Brothers Knitting Company is a historic knitting mill located in the Westside neighborhood of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. West Brothers was built in 1906–1907, and is a three-story, 20 bay by 6 bay, red brick mill building with a raised basement. It is of standard mill construction. The front facade features a three-bay, four-story elevator tower. The West Knitting Corporation moved to Wadesboro, North Carolina in 1928. The mill later housed a corrugated paper container manufacturer, the Gray Brothers Boot & Shoe Manufacturing Company, and most recently a manufacturer of a wide variety of air filters.: 5, 7–9  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Fairmount is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Onondaga County, New York, United States. Fairmount is a western suburb of Syracuse, located in the far southeastern corner of the town of Camillus. Its zip code is 13219 (Syracuse). It is located within the West Genesee Central School District. The population was 10,224 at the 2010 census.
