Curepipe (Mauritian Creole pronunciation: [kiːəpip]) also known as La Ville-Lumière (The City of Light), is a town in Mauritius, located mainly in the Plaines Wilhems District. Its eastern part lies in the Moka District. The town is administered by the Municipal Council of Curepipe. Curepipe lies at a higher elevation, often referred to as the "Central Plateau". According to the census made by Statistics Mauritius in 2018, the population of the town was at 78,618.

The Royal College Curepipe (commonly known as RCC) is considered as one of the most prestigious secondary school with high admission standards in Curepipe, Mauritius. Since 1791 it has be regarded as a school of excellence and started to build a constant laureateship as from the 1800s. In the past, it only admitted boys having achieved the best results at the Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) exams, based on national rankings. RCC has a tradition of Higher School Certificate (HSC) laureates who compete for state scholarships for tertiary studies abroad. Following education system reforms and the introduction of nine year schooling, RCC was converted into an Academy in 2021. Thus becoming a co-education institution admitting the best performing male and female students of the National Certificate of Education who have obtained 8 aggregates only.

The 1911 Curepipe riots refer to violent clashes which broke out in the historic town of Curepipe and then spread to Port Louis on the island of Mauritius on 19 January 1911. The riots also came to be known as Election Rabble Riots of 1911 by the administrators in London.

Trou aux Cerfs (also known as Murr's Volcano) is a dormant volcano with a well-defined cone and crater. It is 605 m (1,985 ft) high and located in Curepipe, Mauritius. The crater has been alternately described as 300 and 350 meters in diameter, and is 80 meters deep.The crater was formed less than 2 million years ago in the second phase of volcanic activity that created Mauritius.According to experts, the volcano is currently dormant but could become active at any time within the next thousand years.The crater is only accessible down a steep embankment which is considered dangerous. Water and silt have clogged the crater, making it even less accessible.

Midlands (Mauritian Creole pronunciation: [midlɛndz]) is a small village (population approx 4,500 in 2006) in the Plaines Wilhems district of Mauritius. The village is situated approximately halfway between Nouvelle France and Curepipe on the M2 motorway. Midlands is on the highlands of the island at approximately 386 metres.

Mare aux Vacoas is the largest reservoir in Mauritius. It is located in Plaines Wilhems, in the southwest of the island, to the south of the town of Curepipe. It has a capacity of 25,890,000 cubic metres (914,000,000 cu ft) and provides water to the upper Plaines Wilhems and to Moka. It was constructed in 1885.

Plaines Wilhems (Mauritian Creole pronunciation: [plɛn wilɛmz]) is a district of Mauritius. It is the most populous district, with an estimated population of 366,506 at the end of 2018. The district is mainly urban; it consists of four towns, the village of Midlands and part of two other villages. The Plaines Wilhems district does not have a District Council; it has four Municipal Town Councils. The towns are Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill, Curepipe, Quatre Bornes and Vacoas-Phoenix. The villages are Midlands, Cascavelle (East - West in Rivière Noire district) and Moka (West- East in Moka district). The district was named after Wilhem Leicknig. Of Prussian origin, he settled on the island of Mauritius, then known as Isle de France, in 1721.

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Medical College (SSRMC), created in 1999, is the first medical college of Mauritius, established by the Indian Ocean Medical Institute Trust (IOMIT) in Mauritius in the memory of the 'father of the nation', late Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam. Rudra Pratap Narain Singh, an educationist and a social planner from India, is the founder chairman and managing trustee of the trust.The college is in Belle Rive, near the city of Curepipe which is 15 km from the capital city of Port Louis.

Sir Abdool Raman Osman State College, abbreviated as SARO SC or simply SARO, is a public secondary school for boys and girls in Phoenix, Mauritius. It was found in 1996 as the Royal College of Phoenix and was renamed in late 1996 after Sir Abdool Raman Osman, the first Governor-General of Mauritius. The school became a National College in 2007. SARO SC admits students having achieved excellent results in the NCE, and preparing them for the University of Cambridge O Level and A Level.
