Palenville, New York

The former Rowena Memorial School is located on NY 23A, at the junction with NY 32A, in Palenville, New York, United States. It is a stone Romanesque style building that educated local students for 70 years. It had fallen into disrepair until it was rebuilt in the 1990s and converted to an arts center.

WLPP-LP (102.9 FM) is an American low-power FM radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to serve the community of Palenville, New York on the frequency of 102.9 megahertz. The station license is assigned to Maetreum of Cybele, Magna Mater Inc. WLPP-LP airs a community radio format. The FCC first licensed this station to begin operations on July 27, 2015, using callsign WLPP-LP; the call sign had been assigned on February 4, 2014.

Kaaterskill Clove is a deep gorge, or valley, in New York's eastern Catskill Mountains, lying just west of the village of Palenville and in Haines Falls. The clove was formed by Kaaterskill Creek, a tributary of Catskill Creek rising west of North Mountain, and is estimated by geologists to be as much as 1 million years old. Kaaterskill High Peak and Roundtop Mountain rise to the south of the gorge, while South Mountain is to its north. This makes the gorge as deep as 2,500 feet in places.

The Catskill Mountain House, which opened in 1824, was a famous hotel near Palenville, New York, and in the Catskill Mountains overlooking the Hudson River Valley. In its prime, from the 1850s to the turn of the century, it was visited by three U.S. presidents (U.S. Grant, Chester A. Arthur, and Theodore Roosevelt) and the power elite of the day.

Artists Rocks is a cliff in Greene County, New York. It is located in the Catskill Mountains southwest of Lawrenceville. North Mountain is located northwest of Artists Rocks.

North–South Lake is an 1,100-acre (4.4 km²) state campground in the Catskill Forest Preserve near Palenville, New York operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation near the site of the historic Catskill Mountain House overlooking the Hudson River. The escarpment on which the lakes are located is at 2,250 feet (685.8 m), 1,700 feet (518 m) above the valley floor, providing a view of five states in clear weather.The area is rich in history. It was a favorite subject of painters in the Hudson River School, particularly Thomas Cole. For a long time, the prestigious resort hotels in the area made it synonymous with the Catskills. Today, the area provides hiking, swimming, boating (no motors), and fishing.

South Mountain is a mountain located in Greene County, New York east of Haines Falls, New York. Located to the southwest is Roundtop Mountain. High Peak drains south into Kaaterskill Creek and north into North-South Lake.

Kaaterskill Falls is a two-stage waterfall on Spruce Creek in the eastern Catskill Mountains of New York, between the hamlets of Haines Falls and Palenville in Greene County. The two cascades total 260 feet (79 m) in height, making Kaaterskill Falls one of the highest waterfalls in New York, and one of the Eastern United States' tallest waterfalls. The waterfalls are one of America's oldest tourist attractions, being depicted or described by many books, essays, poems and paintings of the early 19th century. Beginning with Thomas Cole's first visit during 1825, they became a subject for painters of the Hudson River School, setting the wilderness ideal for American landscape painting. The Falls also inspired "Catterskill Falls", a poem by William Cullen Bryant.

Frank D. Layman Memorial is a historic monument located at Hunter in Greene County, New York. It was erected in 1901 to commemorate Frank D. Layman, who died on the site of the memorial on August 10, 1900, while fighting a forest fire. It is pyramidal in shape, four sided, and rises upward from a base approximately seven feet in diameter to approximately 11 feet.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

North Mountain is a peak in the Catskill Mountains of New York, on the border between the towns of Catskill and Hunter, in Greene County. It is part of the Catskill Escarpment. Cairo Round Top is located northeast and Artists Rock is located southeast of North Mountain. It overlooks the North-South Lake State Campground, an area where resort hotels such as the Catskill Mountain House were once located, and thus has long been a popular climb with hikers. It can be reached by several trails from the campground area, all of which eventually lead to the Escarpment Trail, which crosses the summit. The Long Path, a 350-mile (560 km) long-distance hiking trail from New York City to Albany, is contiguous with the Escarpment Trail. North Point is an area with many open ledges located at 2,900 feet (880 m), along the trail about a half-mile (800 m) below the summit. From North Point, the views of the lakes, other mountains such as Kaaterskill High Peak and the Hudson River and its valley are expansive. They were sometimes the subject of paintings by members of the Hudson River School. The summit is also one of the lowest in elevation in the Catskills to feature a boreal forest of red spruce and balsam fir.
