The Western New York National Cemetery is a new United States National Cemetery located in the Town of Pembroke in Genesee County, approximately 30 miles (48 km) east of Buffalo and 45 miles (72 km) west of Rochester in New York. The cemetery's street address is in Corfu but the property is actually located in the town of Pembroke. It encompasses 132 acres (53 ha) and is the seventh National Cemetery operated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in the New York. It is expected to have room for the burial of over 96,000 veterans and be open for 70 years. The cemetery is located near exit 48A of the New York State Thruway.

Located in what was traditional Seneca nation territory for hundreds of years, the town was named also for a waterfall near its center, where Tonawanda Creek flows over the Onondaga escarpment.

Corfu ( KOR-fyoo) is a village in Genesee County, New York, United States. The population was 709 at the 2010 census. It is named after the Greek island of Corfu. The village of Corfu lies along the southern edge of the town of Pembroke; about 1.5 acres (0.6 ha) within the village limits are within the town of Darien to the south.

Diver's Lake is a spring-fed glacial lake located in Genesee County, New York, with a size of 6.5 acres. It is also the site of the largest flint quarry in Western New York, where Clovis points have been discovered. Other names for the lake include Spirit Lake, Hidden Lake, and Devil's Lake.

Akron Falls Park is a 284-acre (1.15 km2) park in the Village of Akron and Town of Newstead, New York. A major feature of the park is a scenic 40-foot (12 m) waterfall on Murder Creek, a small stream that flows through the park. The park is operated by the Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, and is free and open year-round.

The Rich-Twinn Octagon House built in 1849 is an historic octagonal house located at 145 Main Street in Akron, New York. It is one of three known octagon houses in Erie County, New York and was "meticulously restored" prior to its 1994 nomination to the National Register. On February 10, 1995, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today it is a house museum and is occasionally open for touring.

US Post Office—Akron is a historic post office building located at Akron, Erie County, New York. It was designed and built 1939–1940, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, Louis A. Simon. It was completed in December 1940 as the result of residents requesting it from Congressman Alfred Beiter. The building is in the Colonial Revival style and is virtually identical to the post offices at Scotia, Oxford, Middleburgh, and Horseheads. The interior features a mural by Elizabeth Logan painted in 1941 and titled Horse-Drawn Railroad. When it opened on December 30, 1940, the Akron News reported that, "As you enter the stately stairway to the entrance of the new postoffice you have a certain sense of solidness and rigidity. The brass trimmed doors lend an atmosphere of a Government building." It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Tonawanda Indian Reservation (Seneca: Ta:nöwöde') is an Indian reservation of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation located in western New York, United States. The band is a federally recognized tribe and, in the 2010 census, had 693 people living on the reservation. The reservation lies mostly in Genesee County, extending into Erie and Niagara counties. It is bordered by the Towns of Alabama, Pembroke, Newstead, and Royalton. The Tonawanda Reservation is also known as the Tonawanda Creek Reservation. Currently, it has more than a half dozen businesses located on Bloomingdale Road within the reservation. Several sell untaxed, low-price cigarettes and gasoline. Other businesses sell Seneca craft goods, groceries, and prepared food.

Crittenden is a small hamlet in the town of Alden in Erie County, New York, United States. In 1910 the Crittenden Creamery was located on Crittenden Road north of Genesee Street, Route 33. On January 31, 2011, the Crittenden Post Office 14038 was closed after 160 years of service. It was located at 3610 Crittenden Road.
