Westport, New York

Westport is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Westport in Essex County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 518 at the 2010 census, or 39.4% of the total population of the town of Westport.

Lake View Grange No. 970, also known as the Westport Town Offices and Depew's Roller Rink, is a historic Grange building located at Westport, Essex County, New York. It was built about 1920, and is a two-story, gable front frame building with Colonial Revival style design elements. It is built into a banked site and measures 36 feet by 90 feet. It housed a local Grange chapter from its construction until about 1940; became a roller rink in the 1950s, then a chapter of the American Legion; and after 1971, the Westport town and village offices.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Essex County Fairgrounds is a historic county fair located at Westport in Essex County, New York. The fairgrounds include 15 contributing buildings, one contributing site, and seven contributing structures. Four of these, the Grandstand, Judge's Stand, Floral Hall, and Racetrack, were among the original resources on the site when the fair opened in 1885. The Cooperative Extension Building was built about 1923 and is a two-story, rectangular, Colonial Revival style building with an octagonal cupola.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Westport station is an Amtrak intercity train station in Westport, New York. It was originally built by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad in 1876, and was expanded twice; the first time being in 1891, and the second time being in 1908. The station houses the Depot Theatre, a professional summer theatre, which was established in 1979. Westport serves the Adirondack as well as Amtrak Thruway buses to Lake Placid, New York. In 1974, the D&H sold the depot to the town of Westport for $1. Two years later, the Westport Historical Society initiated a major restoration with a particular focus on the lobby. A subsequent renovation began in 1998; the original slate roof was replaced, repairs were made to the ornamental fascia and accessible-compliant bathrooms were installed. The majority of the funding came from an Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) grant, with additional money from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Great American Stations Foundation and the theater group.The station has one low-level side platform on the west side of the track.

Camp Dudley Road Historic District is a national historic district located at Westport, in Essex County, New York. The district contains 131 contributing buildings, one contributing site, and one contributing structure. It consists of an agricultural landscape and includes late-19th and early-20th century seasonal developments. Among the buildings are vernacular farmhouses in a variety of styles, barn complexes, a stone schoolhouse built in 1816, Skenewood Estate, the Stable Inn properties, Germain property, "Kenjockety," and Barber's Point Lighthouse. Camp Dudley, the oldest continuing boy's camp is located on a 250-acre (1.0 km2) parcel in the southern part of the district.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Founded in 1885 by Sumner F. Dudley, Camp Dudley is the oldest continually running boys camp in the United States. It is located in Westport, New York, on the shores of Lake Champlain. In 1993, it was included within the Camp Dudley Road Historic District when listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

First Congregational and Presbyterian Society Church of Westport, now known as United Church of Christ of Wadhams, is a historic Congregational church on Main Street/CR 10 in Westport, Essex County, New York. It was built in 1837 and is a vernacular, Federal style meeting house form building. It is a one-story building with clapboard exterior siding and a simple gable roof. It features a two tiered belfry with dome shaped roof above the west gable end. The adjacent parish hall was formerly a dance hall and moved to this site in 1901. It is a plain, two story rectangular structure with a gable roof and clapboard siding.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The steamboat Oakes Ames was built in 1868 by the Napoleon B Proctor Shipyard in Burlington, Vermont for the Rutland Railroad. The 244-foot paddle wheeler was designed to ferry railroad cars from Burlington across Lake Champlain to Plattsburgh, New York. She was named after one of the railroad's directors' Oakes Ames.She successfully trialed on 19 August 1868 and her maiden excursion ran the next day to Willsboro Bay, Plattsburg. Mr. Ames went onward to Montreal for a review of the railroad's assets. In 1874, the ship was renamed and repurposed for passenger service as the Champlain II. The following year, on July 16, 1875, the ship was wrecked when it ran aground after drifting off course while being guided by a pilot under the influence of morphine. A salvage operation shortly afterwards removed much of the superstructure, leaving about a third of the wreck in place.The site is now an archaeological site located in Lake Champlain near Westport in Essex County, New York. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Button Bay, previously known as Button Mould Bay or Buttonmold Bay, is an area of shallow water on the east shore of Lake Champlain. It is located in the town of Ferrisburgh (near Vergennes), in Addison County. It is situated between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains in New York. The Bay's name is from the clay concretions found on its shores which looked either like actual clay buttons or the moulds used in button making.Button Bay State Park has been a state park since 1964.

Essex County Home and Farm, also known as Whallonsburg County Home and Infirmary, is a historic almshouse and infirmary located at Whallonsburg in Essex County, New York. The property include seven contributing buildings and one contributing site. The core of the complex is a homogeneous cluster of four brick buildings on fieldstone foundations. The largest is the Home Building, a 2-story dormitory originally constructed in 1860. Located nearby are a milk house and dining / kitchen building. The 2+1⁄2-story infirmary building was built in 1899. Farm buildings include an equipment shed / garage, dairy barn, and hog-chicken house. Also on the property is the institution's cemetery site. The home and infirmary ceased operation in 1980.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
