Mentz, New York

Erie Canal Lock 52 Complex is a national historic district located at Port Byron and Mentz in Cayuga County, New York. The district includes two contributing buildings (the Erie House and the blacksmith shop / mule barn); three contributing engineering structures (Erie Canal Lock 52, culvert, and canal prism of the enlarged Erie Canal); and archaeological sites associated with the canal operations. Lock 52 was constructed 1849-1853 as part of the Enlarged Erie Canal program. It remained in operation until the rerouting of the canal under the New York State Barge Canal System in 1917. The Erie House was built in 1894 and is a two-story frame structure that housed a saloon and hotel. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. The lock is now the centerpiece of a local historic park, accessible either from local streets, or from a rest area on the eastbound side of the New York State Thruway.

Port Byron is a village in Cayuga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,290 at the 2010 census. It is in the town of Mentz and is north of Auburn.

Centreport Aqueduct is a historic aqueduct located in the town of Brutus near Weedsport in Cayuga County, New York. The aqueduct was constructed in 1854-1857 as a part of the Weedsport section of the "Improved Erie Canal." The wood and stone aqueduct carried the Erie Canal over Cold Spring Brook near its juncture with North Brook. The aqueduct structure is approximately 125 feet in length, 125 feet in width, and 16 feet in height. Improvements were made to the aqueduct in 1895 as part of the "Nine Million Dollar Improvement." The aqueduct ceased being used after development of the New York State Barge Canal System in 1917. The aqueduct stone work is still intact and is the prime feature of a roadside park constructed by the New York State Department of Transportation in 1972 with the assistance of the Weedsport Lions Club. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Weedsport is a village in Cayuga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. The name is from Elihu and Edward Weed, merchants who helped found the village. Weedsport is in the town of Brutus, west of Syracuse. It was a port on the Erie Canal. Whitford's Airport is north of the village in the town of Cato.

The Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to recognize individual achievements in the sport of stock car racing. It is located at 1 Speedway Dr., Weedsport, New York.

Mentz Church is a historic community church located at Montezuma in Cayuga County, New York. It is a rectangular, gable roofed frame structure built between 1820 and 1830 and enlarged during the 1870s-1880s. The front facade features a centrally engaged square tower. Also on the property is the church cemetery with headstones dating from 1813 to the 1940s. The church ceased being used for services in 1954 and is being restored for community use.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Orrin W. Burritt House is a historic home located at Weedsport in Cayuga County, New York. It is a fashionable Italianate / Queen Anne style dwelling built about 1876. It consists of a large, essentially rectangular, two story frame main block. Notable features of the building include broadly projecting eaves supported by elaborate scroll brackets, dentils and modillions; large windows surrounded by elaborate wood trim; an imposing verandah with a wealth of Victorian-inspired ornamentation; and a Colonial Revival style porte-cochere added about 1912. Also on the property is a carriage house built about 1876. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Frank and Eliza Tryon House is a historic home located at Weedsport in Cayuga County, New York. It was built in 1883, and is a two-story, Italianate style frame dwelling with a one-story rear section. It sits on a stone foundation built about 1870, and a shallow hipped roof with wide, overhanging eaves. It features a one-story, shallow hipped roof wrapround porch. Also on the property is a contributing two-story clapboard barn with a front gable roof and a concrete foundation (c. 1920).: 5  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

First Baptist Church of Weedsport is a historic Baptist church located at Weedsport in Cayuga County, New York. It is a masonry structure built in 1870 that substantially modified a meetinghouse built in 1839 and enlarged in 1854. The main block retains the core of the earlier building. The church, which consists of the L-shaped main block, an engaged bell tower, and a hyphen linking the rear of the church to the Fellowship Building (built 1921), was constructed of load bearing brick walls above a limestone foundation. The building displays an eclectic mix of Romanesque Revival and Renaissance Revival styles. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Weedsport Junior/Senior High School is a public, secondary school located in Weedsport, New York, Cayuga County. The facility was constructed in 1957 and then expanded in 1967 to include a new cafeteria, swimming pool, and additional classrooms.

Montezuma is a town in Cayuga County, New York, United States. The population was 1,277 at the 2010 census. Located along the Seneca River, the Town is at the western border of Cayuga County and is northwest of Auburn. The Erie Canal was built through here, bringing new commerce, as did the railroad. National and state historic districts have been designated as related to the canal period, as well as national and state wildlife areas to preserve natural resources of the remaining areas of the Montezuma Swamp. Once one of the largest wetlands areas in the Northeast, it extended between the northern end of Cayuga Lake and almost reached the southern end of Lake Ontario.
