Hutchinson Island (Florida)

Hutchinson Island South is a census-designated place (CDP) on the barrier island of Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County, Florida, United States. The South in its name refers to its location in the southern part of St. Lucie County, as it is actually in the central part of the island as a whole. The population was 4,846 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Port St. Lucie Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its mail is delivered from Jensen Beach 34957 in nearby Martin County. The Jensen Beach post office has a postal contract substation known as Hutchinson Beach located at 11007 South Ocean Drive, but it offers only post office boxes and counter services.

Waveland, Florida, was a community in what is now Martin County, Florida, which encompassed all of Sewall's Point, that part of Rio lying east of Warner Creek, and that part of Jensen Beach lying south of N.E. Center Street, more or less. A U.S. post office was established in Waveland on September 2, 1880, but its name was changed to Sewall's Point on May 4, 1891. On December 4, 1891, a new Waveland post office was established which continued until August 31, 1918, when it was merged into the Jensen post office, which became Jensen Beach on June 1, 1943.The name of Waveland has to this day been associated with All Saints Episcopal Church and its cemetery. N.E. Waveland Avenue is a present-day road which runs south from N.E. Dixie Highway in eastern Rio. There is also a Waveland Beach Strip on Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County, but it is not related to this former community.

The Capt. John Miller House is an historic wooden house at what is now 12387 South Indian River Drive, in St. Lucie County, Florida. Its mail comes from the Jensen Beach post office in nearby Martin County. Built by local pioneer Capt. John Miller beginning around 1889 and ending around 1901, it started as a two-room one-story house and ended up a ten-room two-story house with a cross-gabled roof. In 1989, it was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press.

Jensen Beach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Martin County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,652 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Port St. Lucie, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Ocean Breeze, formerly Ocean Breeze Park, is a town on the Indian River in Martin County, Florida, United States. Ocean Breeze and Briny Breezes in Palm Beach County are the only two towns in Florida in which all residents live in a mobile home park bearing the name of the town. The population was 301 at the 2020 census. The population figures do not include the many part-time winter residents from other places. The town is bordered on three sides by the unincorporated community of Jensen Beach. Ocean Breeze is part of the Port St. Lucie Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Martin and St. Lucie counties.

St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant is a twin nuclear power station located on Hutchinson Island, near Port St. Lucie in St. Lucie County, Florida. Both units are Combustion Engineering pressurized water reactors. Florida Power & Light commissioned the station in 1976 and continues to operate the station. Minor shares of Unit 2 are owned by the Florida Municipal Power Agency (8.81%) and the Orlando Utilities Commission (6.08%).The plant contains two nuclear reactors in separate containment buildings. However, the plant does not have the classic hyperboloid cooling towers found at many inland reactor sites; instead, it uses nearby ocean water for coolant of the secondary system. In 2003 the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) extended the operating licenses of the St. Lucie units by twenty years, to March 1, 2036 for Unit 1 and April 6, 2043 for Unit 2.

All Saints' Episcopal Church, Waveland, is an historic Carpenter Gothic church built in 1898 on Crossroads Hill in Waveland, now part of Jensen Beach, Florida. It is the oldest church building located in what is now Martin County, Florida. It is also the northernmost parish in the present-day Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. The church was built on Brevard County. From 1910-25, it was in St. Lucie County. Since 1925, it has been in Martin County. Its rector, W. Frisby Hendricks III recently, retired and the parish is starting the search process to call a new rector.In 1963, the church building was moved a few 100 feet to a more prominent place (which now has the address of 2377 N.E. Patrician Street) at the top of Crossroads Hill. A new rectory (now the parish offices) was built on the old location, which now has the address of 2303 N.E. Seaview Drive, which is the church's mailing address. Since being moved, the church building has been added onto twice but care was taken to preserve its architectural integrity.In 1989, All Saints Episcopal Church was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press.All Saints Episcopal Church is also featured in the 2009 Historic Episcopal Churches Engagement Calendar published by the National Episcopal Historians and Archivists.

Port St. Lucie High School (PSLHS) is a high school in the U.S. city of Port St. Lucie, Florida. It is located in the southeast area of St. Lucie County.

The Capt. Henry E. Sewall House is an historic wooden house now located in Indian RiverSide Park in Jensen Beach, in Martin County, Florida. Local pioneer and developer Capt. Henry E. Sewall built it in 1889 at the southern tip of Sewall's Point, the peninsula and town which bear his family name. When Capt. Sewall became the postmaster of Sewall's Point, the house served also as the Sewall's Point post office. Next to the house Capt. Sewall also built a freight dock that extended into the St. Lucie River along with a storage building at its end.In 1910, Capt Sewall and his wife Abbie (Evans) Sewall built a larger house higher up on the property and in 1913 the 1889 house was moved by barge across the St. Lucie River to a waterfront lot on what is now Old St. Lucie Boulevard in Port Sewall (now part of Stuart), where it stood until being moved by barge to Indian RiverSide Park in 2007. During its stay in Port Sewall the present small rectangular cupola was added to the roof of the house. During Prohibition, green or red lanterns were hung in the cupola to signal incoming bootleggers whether it was safe or not for them to offload their cargoes of alcohol.In 2008 the building was moved to its permanent location within Indian Riverside Park. In November 2012 the restored building was opened to the public.In 2012 the building was designated a Martin County Historic Property.

The Mount Elizabeth Archeological Site, also known as Racey's Tuckahoe, St. Joseph's Novitiate or the Mount Elizabeth Indian Mound is a prehistoric midden and an archaeological site in Jensen Beach, Florida. It is located in Martin County's Indian RiverSide Park, which includes the former Florida Institute of Technology (Jensen Beach Campus) east of Indian River Drive on the Indian River Lagoon. On September 14, 2002, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Tuckahoe, also known as the Leach Mansion or as the Mansion at Tuckahoe, is an historic home located at 1921 North East Indian River Drive in Jensen Beach, Martin County, Florida. The name was thought to be a Native American word for "welcome". It is inside the present day Indian RiverSide Park and is atop the Mount Elizabeth Archeological Site, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 14, 2002. On November 30, 2005, Tuckahoe itself was added to the National Register of Historic Places. On November 4, 2010, the Halpatiokee Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution placed a plaque on the building.

The Stuart Welcome Arch (also known as the 1926 Welcome Arch or Rio-Jensen Beach Arch) is an historic arch-shaped gateway that straddles County Road 707 between 2369 and 2390 Northeast Dixie Highway in Jensen Beach, Florida. It was built in 1926 to mark what were then the town lines of incorporated Jensen and Stuart and to herald Stuart as a "Gateway to the Gulf of Mexico."
