Newbury Academy was an alternative private high school serving students in grades 9-12 that opened in September 2001, based in Dumont, New Jersey. From 2008–2009, Newbury Academy was a virtual school. All classes were conducted online, with teachers making weekly visits to the students' homes.

The school operates under the authority of the New Jersey Department of Education and has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1939.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 764 students and 65.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.7:1. There were 42 students (5.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 5 (0.7% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Schraalenburgh North Church, also known as North Church and as The Old North Reformed Church or Old Reformed Church, was founded in 1801 as a Dutch Reformed Church, in present-day Dumont, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The congregation was made up of those who originally were members of the South Schraalenburgh Church.The cemetery contains burials of parishioners up to 1911, and a list of interments has been transcribed on the Internet by Bob Winship. As "North Church", the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 26, 1983.

The Camp Merritt Memorial Monument is dedicated to the soldiers who passed through Camp Merritt, New Jersey on their way to fight in Europe in World War I, especially the 578 people – 15 officers, 558 enlisted men, four nurses and one civilian – who died at the camp due to the worldwide influenza epidemic of 1918, whose names are inscribed at the base of the monument. The memorial is located at the center of the traffic circle on the borders of Cresskill and Dumont in Bergen County, New Jersey at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Knickerbocker Road (CR 505). Camp Merritt was a major embarkation camp which processed more than a million soldiers, and the monument marks its center. Bergen County purchased the property for the site of the monument in 1919.

Camp Merritt was a military base in Dumont and Cresskill, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, that was activated for use in World War I. It had a capacity for 38,000 transient troops and was one of three camps directly under the control of the New York Port of Embarkation. Two routes were used to transport troops, the first being local railroads which would carry the men South. The alternate route involved marching in contingents of two to three thousand men to the North-East and descending the Palisades. These men marched for an hour to board ferryboats at Old Closter Dock, Alpine Landing that took them to the piers at Hoboken, New Jersey to board troop transports for Europe. Contingents would leave the camp for the landing at half hour intervals to board the ferries for the two hour trip to the embarkation piers where several transports might be loading simultaneously. There they would be joined by troops from Camp Mills and Camp Upton arriving by train at a terminal on Long Island for final transport by ferry to the embarkation piers. Approximately four million troops were sent to the Western Front during World War I, about one million of them passed through Camp Merritt. Camp Merritt was decommissioned in 1919.

Palisades Township was a township that existed in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The township was in existence from 1871 to 1922. On March 22, 1871, Hackensack Township was divided into three parts that were incorporated as townships by the New Jersey Legislature, each stretching from the Hudson River on the east to the Hackensack River in the west: The northernmost portion was Palisades Township; The center strip was Englewood Township; and, The southernmost portion became Ridgefield Township.The new Township was quickly subdivided. The implementation by the New Jersey Legislature of a new Borough Act served to encourage the creation of new municipalities, most formed from portions of two (or more) Townships. Palisades Township survived for a half century after this new legislation, and the case of "Boroughitis" it fomented. In 1894, five boroughs were created from within Palisades Township (and portions of other townships, as indicated): Tenafly (January 24, 1894), Delford (March 8, 1894, now Oradell; also included portions of Harrington Township), Cresskill (May 11, 1894), Bergenfield (June 26, 1894, also created from portions of Englewood Township) and Schraalenburgh (July 20, 1894, changed name to Dumont in 1928; also included portions of Harrington Township). On May 10, 1895, Englewood Cliffs was created from sections of both Englewood Township and Palisades Township. Demarest was formed on April 8, 1903, from portions of both Palisades and Harrington Townships.On March 7, 1898, portions of the Borough of Schraalenburgh were annexed to the township.On March 11, 1922, New Milford was formed from the remaining portions of Palisades Township. With the creation of the Borough of New Milford, Palisades Township was dissolved.
