Haugham

Haugham Priory was a Benedictine priory in Lincolnshire, England. The priory of Haugham was built upon land granted by Hugh, Earl of Chester, at the end of the 11th century, to the abbot and convent of Sainte-Marie-et-Saint-Sever, Saint-Sever-Calvados in the diocese of Coutances. It is likely that it was only intended for the support of one or two monks. Priors were, however, regularly appointed and admitted by the bishops of Lincoln until 1329, when the wars with France created the same difficulties as in other small cells of Alien houses. In 1337 the prior, on the plea of poverty, obtained the restitution of his possessions, which had been seized by the King, and then let the priory to John of Saint Paul to farm for seven years. After John, the King let the priory out again to the Bishop of Carlisle. In 1397 it was granted to the Carthusian priory of Priory of St. Anne, Coventry. There are no remains evident.

It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It stands on a hillside by the A16 road as it passes through the village.

Tathwell is a village in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. Tathwell is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) south from the market town of Louth. The hamlet of Dovendale, alongside the A153 road to the west of the village is in the parish. The hamlet of Haugham lies about 1 mile (1.6 km) south-east of Tathwell. Cadwell Park motor racing circuit is about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Tathwell. The parish church, dedicated to Saint Vedast, also houses The Hamby Monument, a wall monument originally constructed around 1620, and later restored by their descendants, the Chaplin family. (Sir John Hamby's daughter Elizabeth married in 1657 John Chaplin, son of Sir Francis Chaplin.) Tathwell Hall at Tathwell was the longtime home of the Chaplin family, a branch of the Chaplin family of Baronets of Blankney, who served as MPs for Lincolnshire and who were descended from Sir Francis Chaplin, Lord Mayor of London in 1677. The family originated at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. It was through a marriage with the Hamby family that the Chaplins acquired Tathwell. The family became active in Lincolnshire, and in subsequent years many members of the Chaplin family stood for Parliament from Lincolnshire.Near Cadwell and in Tathwell parish is Tathwell Long barrow. It is surrounded by trees, and in the middle of a field with no footpath, but visible from the road. Tathwell's war memorial cross is sited on a corner of the village main crossroads.

Burwell Priory was a priory in the village of Burwell, Lincolnshire, England. The priory was built around 1110 for Benedictine monks, by Ansgot of Burwell, who addressed his charter to Robert, Bishop of Lincoln 1094-1123.The priory motherhouse was Grande-Sauve Abbey, in Aquitaine, France, which at the time was ruled by the Kings of England. When England and France went to war, the priory came under threat and was seized in 1337 and again in 1342, but restored when the Prior swore allegiance to the King. However, in 1386 the priory was again seized, and conclusion of the war meant that it was considered an alien cell. On the death of Prior Peter de Monte Ardito in 1427, the priory was found to be in a ruinous state, and it was dissolved with the land being granted to the college of Tattershall.After this the lands were granted to Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk.

St Helen's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Little Cawthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Little Cawthorpe is about 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of the village of Legbourne, and 3 miles (4.8 km) southeast of Louth.

Little Cawthorpe is a village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south-west from Legbourne, and 3 miles (5 km) south-east from the market town of Louth. Little Cawthorpe red-brick church, dedicated to St Helen, was built in 1860 by R. J. Withers to replace an earlier church. It was declared redundant in 1996 by the Diocese of Lincoln, and is a Grade II listed building. The Manor House is a small red-brick country house dating from 1673 with some 20th-century alterations and additions, and is Grade II* listed. The gate piers to the Manor House are Grade II listed and also date from 1673, although the wrought iron gates are 20th-century.The village public house is the 17th-century Royal Oak locally referred to as 'The Splash' due to the 200 metres (660 ft) long ford that runs adjacent to the premises. Kenwick Park Golf Club lies to the north of the village.

Legbourne Road was a railway station on the East Lincolnshire Railway which served the village of Legbourne in Lincolnshire between 1848 and 1964. The station was closed to passengers in 1953, and withdrawal of goods facilities took place in 1964. The line through the station closed in 1970. The station once housed a museum containing railway memorabilia; this closed in 1998 and the building is once again a private residence.

Legbourne Priory was a priory in the village of Legbourne, Lincolnshire, England. Founded by Robert Fitz Gilbert around 1150, the priory was for the nuns of Keddington (sometimes Hallington). The earliest visitation that survives is from 1440 when Bishop Alnwick reported a few irregularities which needed correction, but found most fault with the Prioress. She had been too fond of entertaining her own relations, and partly supported them with revenue from the priory. She had admitted an unlicensed chaplain to preach in the church, and counselled her nuns not to report anything amiss at the visitation.The priory was dissolved in 1536 on the grounds it had income of less than £200 per year. The last prioress being Joan Missenden The house was not, however, entirely dismantled at the time of the Lincolnshire Uprising. The king's commissioners, Millicent and Bellow, were still in the priory and busy at their work, when they were dragged out of it by the excited mob.The site of the priory is an ancient scheduled monument.

Maltby is a hamlet in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It forms part of Raithby cum Maltby civil parish, and is situated on the A153, 3 miles (5 km) south-west from Louth. It is in the civil parish of Tathwell. The Knights Templars had a preceptory here, later owned by the Knights Hospitallers.
