East Alliance is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. The CDP is in the southwest corner of Mahoning County and the southwest corner of Smith Township. It is bordered to the west by the city of Alliance in Stark County and to the south by Knox Township in Columbiana County. U.S. Route 62, following the Columbiana County line, runs along the south edge of East Alliance; it leads west into Alliance and east 11 miles (18 km) to Salem.

Alliance is a city in eastern Stark County, Ohio, United States, with a small district lying in adjacent Mahoning County. The city is approximately 16 miles (26 km) northeast of Canton, 27 miles (43 km) southwest of Youngstown and 51 miles (82 km) southeast of Cleveland. Its population was 21,672 as of the 2020 census. Alliance was established in 1854 by the merger of three smaller communities. The city was a manufacturing and railroad hub for much of the 20th century and is also associated with the state flower of Ohio, the scarlet carnation, and is known as "The Carnation City". The University of Mount Union, a private liberal arts college established in 1846, is located in Alliance. The city is part of the Canton–Massillon metropolitan area.

The University of Mount Union is a private university in Alliance, Ohio. Founded in 1846, the university was affiliated with the Methodist Church until the spring of 2019. In the fall of 2020, Mount Union had an enrollment of 1,958 undergraduate and 220 graduate students.
