Power Building

Cincinnati East Manufacturing and Warehouse District is a registered historic district in Cincinnati, Ohio, listed in the National Register on March 12, 1999. It contains 23 contributing buildings. It is roughly bounded E. Court Street, E. 8th Street, Broadway, and Main Street in the central business district. The late 19th and early 20th century, buildings in the historic district are mostly five to seven stories tall and originally housed of industry and manufacturing operations.In the late 20th century, several contributing buildings to this historic district were converted from industrial space into luxury apartments and condominiums. The Power Building (1903) at 224 E. 8th Street was transformed into the Renaissance at the Power Building.

Arnold's Bar and Grill is the oldest continuously operating bar in Cincinnati, Ohio, and one of the oldest in the United States.

Krippendorf-Dittman Company is a registered historic building in Cincinnati, Ohio, listed in the National Register on March 3, 1980. Formerly the Krippendorf-Dittman Shoe Company factory, the building has been converted to Sycamore Place luxury loft apartments. The street level retail space presently holds the Sycamore Gallery art collection of University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.

The Hamilton County Justice Center is the main county jail branch for Hamilton County, Ohio. It is serviced by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. The facility is located at 1000 Sycamore Street in the central business district. The Hamilton County Justice Center was built in 1985 at an expense of $54 million. The complex consists of two brutalist-style twin towers, each of which rise ten floors. The jail twin towers are connected to each other by a windowless skywalk. Direct access to the jail from the Hamilton County Courthouse (across the street) is afforded by another skywalk passing over Sycamore Street. The jail holds an average 1424 prisoners daily, and an estimated 55,000 annually, giving it the dubious distinction of being one of the 25 largest jails in the U.S.Several artifacts taken from the Cincinnati Work House and Hospital, a former 19th-century jail, are on display at the Hamilton County Justice Center.On May 31, 2020, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department in Cincinnati, Ohio, had an American Flag removed from the justice center and replaced it with a "thin blue line" flag in response to the protests to the murder of George Floyd. It was later reported that the American flag was first stolen, despite images to the contrary. The blue line flag was taken down.

Cincinnati Times-Star Building at 800 Broadway Street in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a registered historic building. It was listed in the National Register on November 25, 1983. It was built in 1933 and was designed by the firm of Samuel Hannaford & Sons in the Art Deco style. The limestone building has 15 stories with a basement and sub-basement beneath. There is no 13th floor as superstitions ran high during this time period. Much of the decorated facade pays homage to the printing and publishing businesses. Two hundred feet above the street stand four pillars at each of the tower's corners; they represent patriotism, truth, speed, and progress. The newspaper plant occupied the first six stories. The floors above were offices. The Cincinnati Times-Star was an outgrowth of several newspapers and was owned by Cincinnati's Taft family. Charles Phelps Taft was editor. Before moving into the Times-Star Building on Broadway on January 1, 1933, the newspaper's offices were on Sixth and Walnut streets.When the Times-Star folded in 1958, its assets were purchased by its rival, The Cincinnati Post, who moved into the building and occupied it until 1984. Hamilton County bought the building in the late 1980s and renamed it the 800 Broadway Building. It is used for county offices and by the juvenile court.

St. Xavier Parish Commercial School, officially The Convent School, was a private secondary school in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Founded in 1904 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, it remained open until 1960. It was associated with St. Francis Xavier Church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Fr. Francis J. Finn, S.J., served as its first director.The school was located on Sixth Street downtown, between Sycamore and Main Streets—most likely at 520 Sycamore St. It offered "a two-year course of study—primarily for women—in the business arts", including "stenography, book-keeping, and typesetting". Boys from St. Xavier High School also took typing classes there; once the Commercial School closed, the high school moved to Finneytown and the parish remained at the downtown location.Tuition was $50 a year during the 1950s.

St. Francis Xavier Church is located at 611 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati, Ohio. This was the location of the first diocesan cathedral and the center of early Roman Catholic life in Cincinnati. It was dedicated to St. Peter on December 17, 1826. "Christ Church" (founded 1819), the city's first Catholic church was located at Vine and Liberty streets, in the "Northern Liberties" area, at the time outside of the city. A story that the church had to be built on the outskirts of the city because anti-Catholic prejudice prevented a Roman Catholic church within city limits has been shown to be false by church historians. Its frame building was moved on wheels to Sycamore Street in 1826 to serve as the first seminary. Saint Francis Seraph Church now is on the former site, on land purchased from James Findlay. St. Francis Xavier has existed as its own parish since 1845 when the cathedral was moved to Saint Peter In Chains Cathedral at Eight & Plum Streets. The parish has been under the direction of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) since 1840. The present brick edifice with stone facing and ornate clock tower was built in 1860. Xavier University and St. Xavier High School were founded next to the St. Xavier Church. Both institutions have since moved to separate locations due to space constraints and expansion. Today the church serves the downtown community.

Antonelli College was a for-profit career training school with a main campus located in Cincinnati. Founded in 1947 as the Gebhardt Art School, the college later switched its name to Ohio Visual Art Institute in the mid-1970s then renaming itself to Antonelli College in 1982. In 2016, Antonelli College was ranked one of the top ten most expensive two-year colleges in Ohio

The Hamilton County Courthouse is located in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio and contains the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, the Municipal Court, Small Claims Court, and the Clerk of Courts offices.The present courthouse is the fourth courthouse constructed on the site. The second courthouse was destroyed in the Cincinnati riots of 1884.The Hamilton County Courthouse is connected to the county jail, the Hamilton County Justice Center, via a skybridge.

The Nathaniel Ropes Building is a historic commercial building in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Located on Main Street near the Hamilton County Courthouse, this 1882 building has been named a historic site.Nathaniel Ropes founded a company to manufacture lard, candles, and other oil-based products in the first half of the nineteenth century. In 1844, he bought a piece of property in what is now the 900 block of Main Street in downtown Cincinnati, and upon this lot he erected a frame building. This structure stood for twenty-seven years; it was replaced by a larger structure in 1871, and this building in turn was removed for the construction of the present edifice. Ropes appears to have arranged for the building's construction for investment purposes; it was erected only after he had bought 11 feet (3.4 m) of land on the southern edge of his original lot, and none of the buildings at the site appear ever to have housed Ropes' business.The Ropes Building is a brick structure that features elements of sandstone and iron in its construction. Many ornate details characterize its facade, such as variations in the materials used and in the shapes of elements of all types, which combine to form a fine example of the Queen Anne style of architecture. Because of its well-preserved historic architecture, which also aids in distinguishing a group of adjacent commercial buildings, the Nathaniel Ropes Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Underwriters Salvage Corps is a historic building in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Located on Eighth Street in the city's downtown, it has historically been the home of a firm that worked together with both the Cincinnati Fire Department and local fire insurance companies.Local insurance companies formed the Underwriters Salvage Corps in 1886 at the end of a four-year-long process of negotiations. As a salvage corps, their goal was largely to assist firefighters in danger zones: employees rushed to burning buildings to try to save both lives and property, and they were accorded the same status as official firefighters while at fire zones.The present building was erected in 1897 under the direction of local contractor William Schuberth; its purpose was the storage of equipment and the housing of the Salvage Corps' employees who were on duty at any given point. A brick building with a stone foundation, it is a Queen Anne structure three-and-a-half stories tall.In 1982, the Underwriters Salvage Corps was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Key to this designation was its place in local history, for it was the only Cincinnati-area corporation that worked closely with both insurance companies and the city's fire department.
