Apple Valley is a city in northwestern Dakota County in the State of Minnesota, and a suburb of the Twin Cities. The population was 56,374 at the 2020 census, making it the 17th most populous city in Minnesota. In 2014, Money.com named Apple Valley the 17th best place to live in the United States, up from 20th in 2010, 24th in 2008 and 28th in 2007.

The Dakota County Tribune is an American, English language weekly newspaper headquartered in Apple Valley, Minnesota, which serves the Apple Valley, Farmington and Rosemount communities in Dakota County. It was founded in 1884.

Apple Valley High School (AVHS) is a public four-year high school in the U.S. city of Apple Valley, Minnesota. It is one of the five high schools serving Independent School District 196 (Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District). The school was completed in 1976 as the second high school added to the district. It competes in the South Suburban Conference of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL).

Eastview High School is a comprehensive and college preparatory public high school in Apple Valley, Minnesota, United States. Established in 1997, Eastview is the newest of the four high schools serving Independent School District 196. Newsweek ranked the school in their "List of the Top High Schools in America" for the sixth consecutive time (2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006, 2007, 2008). Eastview has also been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of America's Best High Schools. In 2013, Eastview was ranked in the top 3% of the most challenging high schools in the United States, as well as a top comprehensive high school in Minnesota. Prior to the 2010–2011 school year, Eastview was a member of the Lake Conference, but then broke off with most of the Lake Conference schools in order to create the South Suburban Conference.

Alimagnet Lake is a lake in Dakota County, in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The lake stands in Burnsville, south of Minneapolis. The name Alimagnet is supposedly a portmanteau derived from the first names of Alice McQuillen, Margaret "Maggie" Davis, and Nettie Judd, three young girls who were playing near the yet unnamed lake in the 1860's when surveyors asked their names and subsequently named the lake after them.

The Minnesota Zoo (formerly the Minnesota Zoological Garden), is an AZA-accredited zoo in Apple Valley, Minnesota. It is one of two state-supported zoos in the United States, with the other being the North Carolina Zoo. When it opened on May 22, 1978 it was fairly revolutionary in its exhibit design. The zoo, built in a suburbanizing rural area, had more space to house exhibits and was one of the first zoos to organize its animals by their living environment as opposed to their species. The Minnesota Zoo is a state agency. This differs from other zoos in Minnesota and most others in the United States, which are run by municipalities or private organizations. The Minnesota Zoo charges admission and sells annual memberships. It is also home to a high school, the School of Environmental Studies.

Crystal Lake is a lake in Burnsville, Dakota County, Minnesota. The lake is a primary source of recreation for the city of Burnsville and the surrounding area. Crystal Beach Park , Crystal Lake West Park and Tyacke Park all have coastline along the lake and offer amenities such as boat landings, picnic areas, hard surfaced courts, playground equipment, walking trails, and others. Nearby Lac Lavon Lake Park has a softball complex, tennis courts, and horseshoe courts. The Lake also contains two islands, Picnic Island (nicknamed Potty Island) and Maple Island. The most southerly parts of the lake extend into the city of Lakeville. Crystal Lake was named from its sparkling waters.

The School of Environmental Studies is an optional two-year high school in Apple Valley, Minnesota, United States. Also known as the "Zoo School" because of its active partnership with the Minnesota Zoo and its 10-acre (48,000 m2) site on zoo property, the school embraces project-based learning with an environmental theme.

Farquar Lake is a lake in Dakota County, in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It was most likely named for John Farquhar, a pioneer settler, although it may have been named for James Farquhar, whose name appears on the abstract of land entries in 1874 as the owner of property adjacent to it.

KKMS (980 kHz "The Mission") is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Richfield, Minnesota, and serving the Minneapolis-St. Paul radio market. It is owned by the Salem Media Group and broadcasts a Christian talk and teaching radio format. The transmitter and radio studios are on Cliff Road near Minnesota State Highway 77 in Eagan.The station uses a brokered programming system, where national and local religious leaders buy time on the station and may use their programs to seek donations to their ministries. Some national hosts on KKMS include John MacArthur, Alistair Begg, David Jeremiah, J. Vernon McGee, June Hunt and Jim Daly. Several Salem Radio Network conservative talk hosts are also heard on the station, Eric Metaxas, Jay Sekulow and Charlie Kirk. The station produces a local afternoon show, "Crosswalk with Lee Michaels."

Buck Hill is a ski hill in Burnsville, Minnesota, a suburb south of Minneapolis. It is one of three ski areas in the Twin Cities metropolitan area; the others are Afton Alps and Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area. Buck Hill opened in 1954 and offers ski, snowboard, and tubing trails. Artificial snow is often used to maintain the slopes, because while Minnesota's winters are cold, the average annual snowfall is low for a ski area: less than 60 in (150 cm).Buck Hill faces east, overlooking Interstate 35. It is owned by David and Corrine "Chip" Solner. The ski area is lighted for night skiing, and operates three chairlifts (2 quads, 1 triple) and multiple surface tows (trail map). The base area consists of a parking lot and a short strip of lodges. The ski runs use the east face of the hill, with the other sides occupied by residential housing, and a municipal water tower sharing the summit. The ski area's vertical drop is 310 feet (94 m).

The Kenrick Avenue Park and Ride is a 750-space parking ramp in Lakeville, Minnesota providing interchange for bus passengers. The three-level park-and-ride ramp is located on the site of a former Minnesota Department of Transportation weigh station, on the east side of Interstate Highway 35 at Kenrick Avenue and 167th Street West, about two miles south of the point where I-35E and I-35W divide. In January, 2009, the Metropolitan Council awarded a $6.6 million contract to Adolphson & Peterson Construction to build the station, which began serving customers on September 28, 2009. Northbound buses access the freeway directly from the station. Buses on Metro Transit's Express Bus Route 467 now serve commuters destined for downtown Minneapolis. A future extension of the Metro Orange Line, a bus rapid transit service to downtown Minneapolis, may also serve the facility.The station was built at a cost of $8.67 million. Most of the cost was paid by the federal government with $1.7 million coming from Minnesota state bonds. The park and ride was the third largest facility by capacity in the Metro Transit system in 2011.
