Outlets of Mississippi is an outdoor outlet mall located just north of the intersection of U.S. Route 49 and Interstate 20 in Pearl, Mississippi, United States, approximately 3.5 miles east of Downtown Jackson. More than 30,000 people attended the grand opening of the mall in late November 2013. The mall is anchored by Forever 21. The mall boasts 76 stores, and is one of the state's largest shopping malls.

Trustmark Park is the home of the Mississippi Braves, the Southern League Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and is located in Pearl, Mississippi, USA. The ballpark, which opened April 18, 2005, has capacity for 8,480 fans. There are 5,500 chair-back seats in the reserved seating areas. The grass berm beyond the outfield walls has room for an additional 2,000 general admission customers. On August 13, 2006, a record crowd of 7,652 saw the M-Braves defeat the Huntsville Stars 4–2. The largest crowd to ever see a game at the park was the 2016 Governor's Cup in which 8,542 fans watched the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeat the Ole Miss Rebels, 2–0.The ballpark derives its name from the sale of naming rights to Trustmark Bank headquartered in Jackson.

The Pearl High School shooting was a school shooting that occurred on October 1, 1997 at Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi, United States. The gunman, 16-year-old 11th grade student Luke Woodham (born February 5, 1981), killed two students and injured seven others at the school after killing his mother at their home earlier that morning.

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Jackson, Mississippi, is an open-spandrel concrete arch bridge over the Pearl River. It was built in 1925. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 1987 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It has been demolished and replaced, but a section has been kept and placed as a memorial at an overlook of the Pearl River.

The 1979 Easter flood was one of the most costly and devastating floods to ever occur in Mississippi, United States, with $500–700 million in damages. $1.87 billion in 2020 dollars. It was the result of the Pearl River being overwhelmed by severe rain upstream. Floodwaters sent the Pearl River 15 feet above flood stage. More than 17,000 residents of Jackson, Flowood, Pearl, Richland, and other settlements in the Jackson metropolitan area were forced from their homes. The flooding of the Pearl River placed most of the streets of Jackson, the state's capital city, under several feet of water.

The Jackson Public School District (JPSD) or Jackson Public Schools (JPS) is a public school district serving the majority of Jackson, the state capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Mississippi. Established in 1888, it is the second largest and only urban school district in the state.

Cleary is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Rankin County, Mississippi, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 1,688.

Pearl is a city in Rankin County, Mississippi, United States, located on the east side of the Pearl River across from the state capital Jackson. The population was 27,115 as of the 2020 census. It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pearl is the 13th largest city in the state and the largest city in Rankin County.

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi (in case citations, S.D. Miss.) is a federal court in the Fifth Circuit with facilities in Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Natchez, and Jackson. Appeals from cases brought in the Southern District of Mississippi are taken to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit). The United States Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court. As of January 20, 2021 the Acting United States Attorney is Darren LaMarca.

The Hinds County Courthouse is a historic county courthouse building in Jackson, Mississippi. The Art Deco building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since July 31, 1986; and is a Mississippi Landmark since March 5, 1986.The courthouse was enlarged with wings on both sides. It has two statues by Fred Torrey of Chicago on its roof, Moses, the Giver of the Law (1930) and Socrates, the Interpreter of the Law (1930). It is located next to the detention center, built in 1977.

Jackson Volcano is an extinct volcano 2,900 feet (880 m) beneath the city of Jackson, Mississippi, under the Mississippi Coliseum. The uplifted terrain around the volcano forms the Jackson Dome, an area of dense rock clearly noticeable in local gravity measurements. E.W. Hilgard published his theory of an anticline beneath Jackson in 1860 due to his observations of surface strata. The dome contains relatively pure carbon dioxide which is used in oil production in Gulf Coast oil fields. The noble gas data suggests mantle origins with a date of 70 million years for the Jackson Dome intrusion. Geologists have evidence of repeated uplifts accompanied by dike intrusions and volcanic extrusions, erosion, and sedimentation with one coral reef having developed during a submergence. Much of the oil at the crest of the dome volatilized during a late uplift, but oil production wells numbered over a hundred in 1934. Jackson Volcano is believed to have been extinct for at least 66 million years. A hypothesis states that the Jackson Volcano and related igneous activity in Mississippi were a result of the North America Plate's passage over the Bermuda hotspot 66 million years ago. Alternatively, the volcanism may have been part of a worldwide eruption driven by superplumes, similar to the conditions that created the Deccan Traps and the Siberian Traps.The volcano is one of four inside cities in the United States, Diamond Head in Honolulu, Hawaii, Pilot Butte in Bend, Oregon, and Mount Tabor in Portland, Oregon being the others. The volcano was discovered in 1819.

The Jackson Police Department provides law enforcement services to approximately 185,000 citizens encompassing 122 square miles (320 km2) of Jackson, Mississippi, United States. JPD is composed of approximately 430 sworn officers who are supported by over 250 civilian personnel.
