Elgin is a city in Wabasha County, Minnesota, United States on Minnesota State Highway 42. The population was 1,089 at the 2010 census. Its annual festival is Elgin Cheese Days.

The Great River Ridge State Trail is a multi-use recreational rail trail in southeastern Minnesota, United States. It is planned to run 15 miles (24 km) from the city of Plainview through Elgin to Eyota on the former right-of-way of a branch line of the Chicago and North Western Railway. Currently the final two miles (3.2 km) leading into Eyota are incomplete, but the rest of the route is paved and, south of Elgin, includes a parallel unpaved trackway for horseback riders and snowmobiles. An extension providing access to Carley State Park is also planned.

It is used for picnics, camping, hiking, and other outdoor recreation. It is known for the bluebell flowers that bloom there every spring. It is located in the Driftless Area of Minnesota. This is an area that escaped glaciation during the last ice age, i.e. the Wisconsinian glaciation.

The Gopher Count is an annual community festival held in Viola, Minnesota, United States. Since 1874, the event has been on the third Thursday in June. Some the events include a parade, a tractor show, a nail-driving contest (women only), a pie-eating contest, fireworks, and dancing. Gopher Count is one year older than the Kentucky Derby. The festival is named for the practice of collecting a bounty on killed gophers, still paid by the township as of 2009, though other aspects of the festival are more actively promoted.

The community is located along Olmsted County Road 2 (Viola Road) near 105th Avenue NE and Center Street. State Highway 42 (MN 42) and Olmsted County Road 24 are also in the immediate area. Nearby places include Eyota, Elgin, and Rochester. The North Fork of the Whitewater River flows through the community.
