Elgin, Minnesota

Elgin Township is a township in Wabasha County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 787 at the 2000 census. Elgin Township was organized in 1858.

The Great River Ridge State Trail is a multi-use recreational rail trail in southeastern Minnesota, United States. It is planned to run 15 miles (24 km) from the city of Plainview through Elgin to Eyota on the former right-of-way of a branch line of the Chicago and North Western Railway. Currently the final two miles (3.2 km) leading into Eyota are incomplete, but the rest of the route is paved and, south of Elgin, includes a parallel unpaved trackway for horseback riders and snowmobiles. An extension providing access to Carley State Park is also planned.

The Gopher Count is an annual community festival held in Viola, Minnesota, United States. Since 1874, the event has been on the third Thursday in June. Some the events include a parade, a tractor show, a nail-driving contest (women only), a pie-eating contest, fireworks, and dancing. Gopher Count is one year older than the Kentucky Derby. The festival is named for the practice of collecting a bounty on killed gophers, still paid by the township as of 2009, though other aspects of the festival are more actively promoted.

Viola is an unincorporated community in Viola Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota, United States. It is the site of a yearly Gopher Count festival, which began in 1874. The community is located along Olmsted County Road 2 (Viola Road) near 105th Avenue NE and Center Street. State Highway 42 (MN 42) and Olmsted County Road 24 are also in the immediate area. Nearby places include Eyota, Elgin, and Rochester. The North Fork of the Whitewater River flows through the community.

Carley State Park is a state park of Minnesota, United States, about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Rochester and about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Plainview in Wabasha County. It is used for picnics, camping, hiking, and other outdoor recreation. It is known for the bluebell flowers that bloom there every spring. It is located in the Driftless Area of Minnesota. This is an area that escaped glaciation during the last ice age, i.e. the Wisconsinian glaciation.

The Jon Hassler Theater was a professional live theater located in Plainview, Minnesota. In November 2013 it was announced that the Hassler would be closing at the end of 2014.

Plainview is a city in Wabasha County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,483 at the 2020 census, up from 3,340 at the 2010 census. The author Jon Hassler was raised in Plainview and some of the places in his writing are based on the town.

Potsdam is an unincorporated community in Farmington Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota, United States, near Elgin and Rochester. The community is located along State Highway 247 (MN 247) near Olmsted County Road 11. The boundary line between Olmsted and Wabasha counties is nearby.
