Flitcham, Norfolk

Hillington railway station was a station in Hillington, Norfolk on the now closed Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line between South Lynn and Melton Constable. It closed in 1959 along with the rest of the line.

Hillington is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 10.27 km2 (3.97 sq mi) and had a population of 287 in 123 households as of the 2001 census, increasing to 400 at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The village straddles the A148 King's Lynn to Cromer road. It formerly had a railway station, but this closed in 1959.

Flitcham with Appleton is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 17.08 km2 (6.59 sq mi) and had a population of 236 in 96 households at the 2001 census. The population, including the parish of Anmer, was 276 at the 2011 Census.The parish includes the village of Flitcham as well as the sites of the deserted medieval villages of Appleton and Little Appleton. The ruined church of St Mary, the former parish church of Appleton, dates from at least the 11th century. Its ruined round tower remains standing and is a Grade II* listed building.For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk.

The River Cong is a stream in the west of the county of Norfolk, only 1.5 miles (2.4 km) in length. It is a tributary of the River Babingley. The spring rises in a meadow pool on the Hillington side of Manor Farm, Congham. From there, it flows through the wood and over a small waterfall, where in the past it powered all the machinery within the Congham Oil Mill (grid reference TF71342475), which is now known as Congham Lodge. The name of the stream does not appear on current Ordnance Survey maps, and few sources name it. One appearance of the name is in the neighbouring village of Congham, whose name is listed by one source as meaning "dwelling by the River Cong", though more recent sources suggest a possible direct meaning of dwelling "at the hill".

Anmer Hall is a Georgian country house in the village of Anmer in Norfolk, England. Built in the 19th century, it was acquired by the Sandringham Estate sometime after Queen Victoria purchased the property, and has previously been leased to business owners, civil servants, and members of the British royal family. It is currently the country residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, given to the couple as a wedding gift by Elizabeth II.

The Appleton Water Tower is a Victorian water tower located in Sandringham, Norfolk. It was constructed in 1877 to improve the quality of the water supply to the nearby Sandringham House and its estate. Accommodation was provided within the tower on the ground and first floors for the water tower custodian, whilst the second floor above the water tank provides a viewing platform. All floors are served by a spiral staircase adjoining the tower.The tower is now leased and operated by the Landmark Trust as a holiday let.

Anmer is a small village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is around 12 miles (19 km) north-east of the town of King's Lynn and 35 miles (56 km) north-west of the city of Norwich. The parish is in the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk and at the 2001 census had a population of 63 in 29 households. The place-name 'Anmer' is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Anemere. This name derives from the Old English aened-mere, meaning 'duck mere or lake'. The parish contains evidence of settlement from the Bronze Age onwards, with a number of Bronze Age barrows to the east of the village.Anmer Hall, the former residence of the Duke and Duchess of Kent, dates from the 18th century and stands at the centre of a landscape park laid out in 1793. This led to the clearance of the original medieval settlement and its relocation to the north-west of the hall, creating the modern village. This involved the closure of all roads across the park. A number of earthworks, including a two-metre-deep hollow way, are preserved at the site of the medieval village.The hall is located west of the village and is linked to the nearby Sandringham estate by a long straight road known as ‘The Avenue’. In 2014 it was renovated as the new country home of the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The parish church, which is dedicated to St Mary, is on the Anmer Hall estate. A Grade II* listed building, it was restored in the 19th century.

Congham is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is situated some 6 miles (10 km) east of the town of King's Lynn and 34 miles (55 km) west of the city of Norwich.[1]

Grimston is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk, approximately 6 miles north-east of King's Lynn. It covers an area of 18.08 km2 (6.98 sq mi) and had a population of 1,952 in 823 households at the 2001 census, increasing to a population of 1,980 at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The village is a few miles away from the Royal family residence at Sandringham House. The village was built on a spring line and a Roman villa was found near Watery Lane in the late 19th century. Subsequently, Roman villas were found in the neighbouring villages of Gayton Thorpe and Well Hall to the south and Congham and Appleton to the north. Some red bricks from the villas were re-used in the church, on buttresses and on the South Wall. Grimston, and particularly the nearby hamlet of Pott Row were quite significant centres of pottery production from the 11th to 16th centuries, and important suppliers of this to Scandinavia. Grimstonware finds have also been made in Italy and Spain. Pots often had faces carved just under the rim. Some of these can be seen in local museums including the Castle Museum, Norwich. The Grade I listed Church of St Botolph has late Saxon or early Norman origins, largely extended in the 14th and 15th centuries. Schools that serve the area of Grimston are Holly Meadows School (Primary) in Vong Lane and Springwood High School in King's Lynn (Secondary). Adam Thoroughgood (1604 -1640) was born in Grimston. He was a prominent Virginia settler in the 1620s, naming the city of Norfolk, Virginia after his home county. The district of Thoroughgood in Virginia Beach is named after him, and a house he built there is open as Adam Thoroughgood House.

West Newton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Sandringham, in the King's Lynn and West Norfolk district, in the north of the county of Norfolk, England. The village is 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) south of Sandringham, 11 kilometres (7 mi) north of the town of King's Lynn and 60 kilometres (37 mi) north-west of the city of Norwich. In 1931 the parish had a population of 198.

York Cottage is a house in the grounds of Sandringham House in Norfolk, England.

Roydon is a small village, civil parish and electoral ward east of King's Lynn in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 4.62 km2 (1.78 sq mi) and had a population of 368 in 144 households at the 2001 census, the population of the village and ward being shown as 2,450 at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. It is recorded in the Domesday Book as Reidnua and in 1254 as Ridone.The village was served by the Grimston Road railway station of the Midland & Great Northern Railway Company (the station was named after the nearby village of Grimston despite being in the centre of Roydon because, at the time of opening, Grimston's population was ten times that of Roydon). The station opened in 1879, and closed to passengers in 1959 (freight traffic continued to pass through the village until this section of the M&GN railway finally closed in 1968). Roydon today has a large common which is managed as a nature reserve. The most significant building architecturally is the parish church of All Saints, parts of which date back to the 12th century although it was subject to major renovations by the prolific ecclesiastical architect GE Street in 1857. The church is Grade 2* listed.
