The Arrowhead Refinery Superfund site is a 10-acre former waste oil recycling facility, located in Hermantown, Minnesota, within a white cedar wetland. The refining process generated a waste stream of highly acidic, metal-laden sludge which was disposed of in an unlined two-acre lagoon on the site and waste process water which was discharged into a wastewater ditch in a wetland area. Arrowhead Refining Company incorporated in 1961 and continued the re-refining activities until 1977. A public health risk assessment stated that if no action was taken to remedy the site, use or development of the site would result in unacceptable health effects on user populations. It was also determined that there was a future potential exposure risk for offsite drinking water wells across the road from the site and in the pathway of the contaminated groundwater plume. The record of decision (ROD) was issued in September 1986.

The Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI) is a United States (U.S.) based research institute founded by the Minnesota state legislature within the University of Minnesota Duluth. Proctor is a city in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,120 at the 2020 census. The city was established as Proctorknott in 1894, with the name coming from former Kentucky Governor J. Proctor Knott. Knott was famous for delivering the speech The Untold Delights of Duluth to the U.S. House of Representatives. The city's name was shortened to Proctor in 1904.Proctor's welcome sign on U.S. Highway 2 reads: "You Have a Place in Proctor".

Bayview Heights is a primarily residential neighborhood in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. Although it is grouped by the city with the West Duluth communities, it often functions more as a part of the city of Proctor than of Duluth, due primarily to its hilltop location (1200 feet or roughly 400 m above sea level) rather than the 600 feet or roughly 200 m above sea level typical of West Duluth neighborhoods. The neighborhood is centered on Duluth's Vinland Street, where the elementary school, affiliated with Proctor's school district, is located. Vinland Street begins in Proctor as 5th Street, changes its name at the Boundary Avenue intersection (which is the Duluth – Proctor city boundary line), and ends at the "Bayview" intersection. The "Bayview" intersection in Duluth's Bayview Heights neighborhood is the meeting point for Vinland Street, Getchell Road, Skyline Parkway, and Highland Street. Highland Street follows downhill to West Duluth; Getchell Road follows the opposite direction to Hermantown; and scenic Skyline Parkway continues its journey through the city of Duluth. Keene Creek flows through at the eastern edge of the neighborhood.

Four Corners is more commonly known in the present day as the Pike Lake business district of Canosia Township. Four Corners is located near the survey point boundary line for Canosia Township, the city of Hermantown, Grand Lake Township, and Solway Township. The actual survey point boundary line where the three townships and the city of Hermantown meet is located nearby at the intersection of Seville Road and Solway Road. State Highway 194 (MN 194) and Martin Road (County Road 9) are also near Four Corners – Pike Lake business district.

Jedlicka Middle School serves about 1,000 students. The population was 1,399 at the 2010 census.Midway Road, Becks Road, and Interstate Highway 35 are three of the main routes in the township. Other routes include North Cloquet Road, Lindahl Road, Ugstad Road, and Stark Road.
