Pen-y-fai, Bridgend

Newcastle Higher is a community in Bridgend County Borough, south Wales. Located north west of Bridgend town centre it is made up of the townships of Pen-y-fai and Aberkenfig and straddles the M4 motorway. The community is home to several notable buildings, including the Pen-y-fai Hospital (the former Glamorganshire Lunatic Asylum), Court Coleman and All Saints Church. At the 2001 census, the community's population was 3,695, increasing to 4,046 at the 2011 Census.

Glanrhyd Hospital is a psychiatric hospital in Pen-y-fai near Bridgend in Wales. It is managed by the Cwm Taf University Health Board.

Aberkenfig (Welsh: Abercynffig, meaning "mouth of the Kenfig" (stream)) is a village located in the County Borough of Bridgend, Wales to the north of Bridgend town. It is in the community of Newcastle Higher.

St Bride's Minor is a community in Bridgend County Borough, south Wales. Located north of Bridgend town it is made up of Sarn, a large housing estate, and the villages of Bryncethin and Abergarw. The southern border of the community is defined by the M4 motorway, though the community stretches briefly beyond the Motorway to take in the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. The eastern, and largest area of the community consists of farmland and small scattered farm houses. At the 2001 census, the community's population was 5,575, increasing to 6,014 at the 2011 Census.At the local level St Bride's Minor is governed by St Bride's Minor Community Council, electing up to thirteen community councillors.At the 1995 council elections St Bride's Minor was also a ward to Bridgend County Borough Council electing two Labour Party county councillors. Prior to 1995 St Bride's Minor was an electoral ward to Mid Glamorgan County Council and Ogwr Borough Council.

Sarn railway station is a railway station serving the village of Sarn, South Wales. It is located on the Maesteg Line from Cardiff via Bridgend. The station was opened by British Rail on 28 September 1992.Passenger services are operated by Transport for Wales as part of the Valley Lines network for local services.

Cefn Glas is an area on the northwestern outskirts of the town of Bridgend, Wales. It is part of the community of Laleston. In the 2001 Census, Cefn Glas had a population of 1,742 people, making up 1.35% of Bridgend's total population. This population reduced to 1,537 at the 2011 Census.Ysgol Gyfun Bryntirion (Bryntyrion Comprehensive School) is located on Merlin Crescent. Cefn Glas is also the name of the electoral ward to Bridgend County Borough Council, since 1999 electing one county councillor. The ward is bordered to the north and east by the mainline railway and to the west by Nant Cefn.

Wildmill or Wild Mill is a district in the town of Bridgend, south Wales. The initial housing estate was built in the late 1960s, using the Radburn design.The area is served by Wildmill railway station. Wildmill has often been associated with the working class.

Court Colman Manor is a historic Tudor mansion (now a hotel) in Pen-y-fai, Bridgend, South Wales. The property belonged to Margam Abbey until the Dissolution, after which it passed through several hands. It was built in 1766 by Hopkin Rees (1729–1780) and enlarged and modified in 1907 by Robert William Llewellyn (1848–1910).

Wildmill railway station is a railway station serving the district of Wildmill, Bridgend, South Wales. It located on the Maesteg Line from Cardiff via Bridgend.

The River Llynfi (Welsh: Afon Llynfi), is one of three main tributaries of the River Ogmore (Welsh: Afon Ogwr). It runs for around 10 miles from its source north of Maesteg and flows generally southwards through the Llynfi Valley to the confluence with the River Ogmore and the River Garw at Aberkenfig. Its main tributaries are Nant Cwm-du and Nant Cedfyw which enter on its left bank and Nant Crynwydd, Nant Sychbant and Nant y Gadlys on its right bank.The Llynfi has endured a long period of industrialisation and coal mining especially around Maesteg. There was an ironworks and brick works at Tondu. Industrialisation and poor provision of sewerage led to severe water pollution of the river. In the second half of the 20th century, whilst the impact of coal mining diminished, new industries such as cosmetics and toiletries, paper making and sewage disposal continued to maintain the Llynfi in an almost abiotic condition. Strong enforcement action against a number of industries helped to ensure a steady improvement in quality into the 21st century. Sarn is a village (and electoral ward) in Bridgend County Borough, Wales, about three miles (five kilometres) north of Bridgend and which lies just east of the confluence of the Ogmore and Llynfi rivers. It is located to the east of Aberkenfig, south of Brynmenyn, and south-east of Tondu. It is around 15 minutes' walk from the M4 and the McArthurGlen Group Bridgend Designer Outlet.
